You probably don’t believe in miracles either.
Whilst I’m not going to argue for gay conversion therapy because I don’t think it is realistic, but there are certainly cases where it did happen. I’m happy to call them miracles if that makes any difference.
I don’t think ssa people should seek this as an end because it just doesn’t happen to most people. What most could hope for is that people would experience a less addictive drive to SSA so that they can live a happy and chaste life instead of being damaged by secular society values like “gay marriage”.
To suggest to a ssa person there is nothing one can do to change their SSA feelings is VERY VERY VERY damaging. One can definitely lessen it with Gods help.

I don’t see anything wrong with being gay and all that can entail. Homosexual relationships and marriage are fine by me, just as are heterosexual relationships. I believe it is completely normal. That is why I believe trying to convince a gay person they should strive to be something else is so wrong and so harmful. You can imagine how you would feel if somebody tried to convince you you were gay, when in reality you weren’t. It is the same thing.

Yes I can imagine how I would feel if I’m an alcoholic and I’m told alcohol is bad for me. For me alcohol is normal and anyone who ask me to change is unreasonable.

You see the point you are missing is ssa is an intrinsically disordered feeling, similar to alcohol addiction. Hence of course it is quite damaging to tell an alcoholic that it is normal to have alcohol just like it is damaging to tell an ssa person to get a “gay marriage”.

Alcoholism is nothing the same as being gay. False equivalency. No need to argue, though. We have different beliefs and values regarding this.

You are allowed to have this opinion of course. But this is not Catholic teaching. So you should emphasise on this forum that you are not Catholic.

To anyone who is reading this thread

If you want a secular answer you can continue to read qwertygirl posts.
But if you want the Catholic answer, then I hope I haven’t said anything contrary to the Catholic faith. And Catholics here know the Catholic faith contains the truth, and not secular society, on this issue.

I only speak up on here when somebody is suggesting viewpoints or actions that are harmful to other people. What you suggest and what other suggest on here is quite harmful. So I speak up.

You are suggesting Catholic teaching is harmful.
See conduct rule 5.

Your opinions here are very harmful to the Catholics here who struggle with SSA. I make no apologises to stand up for Catholic teaching on this thread.

It is not Catholic Church teaching to try to convince a gay person that they aren’t gay. There is nothing in church teaching that advocates for that. Please don’t twist my words that way.

Catholics already struggle with the pressures of secular society. We really don’t need non Catholics here proselytising. I do appreciate a different point of view from non Catholics. But to suggest the Catholic answer is harmful… that’s going too far.

So you agree that telling a SSA person that the feelings are intrinsically disordered and that they should live a chaste life, that’s not harmful then?

Of course I don’t believe that. That isn’t what was being discussed, though.

Can I seek clarification. Are you saying it is harmful or not harmful?

I don’t believe gay people need to be modified in any way. Trying to convince them they should try to modify or change themselves is harmful. I am not going to get into the debate here of whether a gay person should live without sexual activity, or not. My views of human sexuality are not aligned with those of the Catholic Church.

A previous poster is quite adamant that gay people can just wish their gayness away. Then you jumped in on the conversation and made remarks about remarks I had made in response to her. Perhaps we are talking past each other here. I didn’t think so.

So to be clear, the attraction or inclination alone is believed to be disordered but not the person who has the attraction. Therefore the Church is saying that a person who is not intrinsically disordered can have intrinsically disordered inclinations. However, if the person ACTS on their disordered attraction, then is that action considered disordered, or is it considered (only) sinful? I guess what I am asking is how does the Church define “disordered”?

My understanding: SSA is “intrinsically disordered”, according to the Church, whereas homosexual acts are “objectively disordered” – disordered with respect to their object.

I’ve never been quite clear on the meaning of “intrinsically disordered”, unless it means something like “a more or less stable disposition toward an objectively immoral action”.

Either you are gay or you aren’t.

Haha! Who would know that in advance?
In advance of what?
If someone is involved in gay sex, then that person acts as a gay person. If the same person moves on from that lifestyle, then that person stops acting like a gay person.
Yes, but not acting on one’s attractions does not necessarily make them disappear. Most of human sexuality is in the brain, and it remains there whether a person acts upon their attractions or not.

If a person does not embrace a gay lifestyle or is sexually active with a person of the same sex, then they may not be acting on their attractions, but the vast majority of sexual orientation is not in genital expression (“acting like a gay person”).

Remember, Jesus taught that a person can commit adultery even in their heart, whether they “act like” an adulterer, or not. This is because attraction lies within the mind and heart, not in ones actions.
The fact is the gay act that makes someone gay.
No.

There are plenty of people who engage in homosexual acts that are heterosexual.
You cannot say that person was not gay because stopped acting like a gay.
I agree. Abstaining from sexual activity does not change a persons sexual orientation.

No, it is actually a philosophical statement. You are not what you think you are. You are what you do.
Then it is a philosophical statement that reflects a gross ignorance about human sexuality. It is also contrary to Christian thought.
A boy in that situation will not think that having sex with a girl makes him any less gay. Those are the plain facts.
Actually some young people do think this, and try repeatedly, hoping it will work.
Oh sure. Easy to understand: don’t buy one sided propaganda, even if it comes from mainstream media!
Somehow your scholarly sources seem a bit lacking. While I agree with what you say here, this does not forward any reliable sources to support your bizarre assertions.
ou see gays going straight and straights going gay. Both ways.
Only in your narrow little world, where people are defined by what they do!
