Chaput: No unity among US bishops on sanctions for abortion support

Which goes to support Archbishop Chaput’s statement about why some Bishops choose to remain silent publicly regarding the pro-abortion Catholic politicians. They are afraid the Church will have no say in the political arena. My feeling is, so be it. The Church has survived the politics of many a society in the past and will continue to do so.

Also, one has to wonder why the Church (these Bishops in particularly since they want to have a political voice) do not support the only political party left that has a pro-life platform. We are in grave danger (not so much since the last election) of having no political party to support the pro-life position.
Fortunately last two Popes have been appointing bishops in United States who are not afraid to resoundingly proclaim church doctrine even when it rocks the boat in the political arena. Archbishop Chaput is part of this new wave of bishops and there will be more to come.

Good point…

The church never attacks a woman who has had an abortion and no woman ever needs an abortion.
I recognize both points. What I was driving at with my earlier post was that this was an example of the tack taken by most who criticize bishops who are outspoken on prolife matters.

My apologies if that wasn’t written clearly enough in my preceding post.

I figured as much. Just wanted to make it clear for the lurkers.

The Eucharist isn’t a weapon.

These pro abortion Catholic politicians are using their “catholic” position to influence nominal and fallen away Catholics and other Christians toward sin for votes.

These men are leaders for our faith.

An appropriate way to deal with these pro abortion Catholics has been demonstrated in the way that Archbishop Naumann dealt with Kathleen Sebelius’ disobedience.

He didn’t excommunicate her, instead he told her to not present herself for Eucharist until she had made a public change of position on abortion.
👍👍

1 Corinthians 11: 27, Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.

When we stray from Church teaching, we excommunicate ourselves !

Peace
🍕

It looks like the U.S. Bishops are speaking out again. The headline sounds promising, however, I am not sure I am totally happy with this statement again. Maybe I am overly sensitive to the past (and present) lack of focus by the Church in general toward the abomination of abortion; however, as I read this statement it appears to me that they are not placing abortion at the top as the immediate issue. They seem instead to still be pushing for the government to fix all of the social ills. I would rather they focus on stopping the government from funding abortion as a first line effort and maybe have our pastors speak to us about Christians fixing the social ills rather than the government.

The GENOCIDE of 50 MILLION babies in the US since 1973 should be a top priority with Bishops and Laity alike.

Send the 4/14/11 voting records to your Bishops and the USCCB so they will know exact which Catholics in their Diocese need teaching and correction.

Due to the mortal sin of Public Scandal of the Catholic Polticians, they are required to make PUBLIC reparation. Most of them continue to call themselves Catholic in their publications to get Catholic votes. Public Sin is not a private matter.

and
CCC " 1459 Many sins wrong our neighbor. One must do what is possible in order to repair the harm (e.g., return stolen goods, restore the reputation of someone slandered, pay compensation for injuries). Simple justice requires as much. But sin also injures and weakens the sinner himself, as well as his relationships with God and neighbor. Absolution takes away sin, but it does not remedy all the disorders sin has caused. Raised up from sin, the sinner must still recover his full spiritual health by doing something more to make amends for the sin: he must “make satisfaction for” or “expiate” his sins. This satisfaction is also called “penance.”

By definition those Catholic politicians who remain obstinate in support of abortion are heretics and/or schismatics. Check your CCC for heresy & schsim.

Thanks for this post, I have never seen this link or the Archbishop Burke video. The video should be shown in every Catholic Parish in the country.

No wonder some of the posters on this thread do not like Archbishop Burke, he does tell it like it is; in full union with the magisterium. Very difficult to dispute with any facts what so ever. Only relativism works against the truth and that only works for a while. The truth will set you free.
