So where did you learn Arabic? One of my daughters has a sister-in-law who studied Arabic at BYU - she is now in accounting ( and no, I still don’t see the connection).

Can you please source this? Thank you!
As near as I can tell, it is produced by “Sensus Fidelium”
at this website The line-up on the website appears to be highly anti-charismatic. It may be Fr. Ripperger who is the presenter.
Fr. Gruner’s video is there, as well, which was also posted in this thread by Joannes_L.

However, your link does not list the video you posted in this thread anywhere. It is only found on the link I provided to otjm, and my link does also include Fr. Gruner’s video. I agree that it references the Fatima Center for Fr. Gruner’s video. Check it out.

I’m not saying your link doesn’t include Fr. Gruner’s video, I’m saying his video is from Fatima Center, not Sensus Fidelium.
I’ve posted a link to the first page of each site, not a Youtube search page.

And honestly, it wouldn’t be harmful to browse through some good homilies on Sensus Fidelium. Maybe people will find others as interesting as that one.

Can you tell otjm who the presenter is? Is it Fr. Ripperger by any chance?
Or don’t you know.

Sensus Fidelium have homilies from many priests, and some are by Fr. Ripperger, but without a name on the video I can’t have 100% certainty.
So no, I don’t know the priest’s name.

Many Catholics and Catholic priests do not follow the charismatic movement. I personally do not either because several times I have been told by Catholics and protestants alike that if I don’t speak in tonques, something is missing in my Christianity and I should be able to speak in tonques and the problem is with me. I am not saying it doesn’t happen but like someone else said, I understand that it is a recognizable language that should be able to be understood. ?? Not sure.

It is not Father Ripperger but Father Ripperger along with all the other priests heard on Sensus Fidelium are priests in good standing with the Catholic church. Many of the talks heard are homilies.

God bless

I had suspected a locus in that direction, or perhaps more so,

It is clear, listening to the first video that the preacher had at the very best, minimal contact with the Charismatic Movement, and perhaps not that much. He focuses almost entirely on what is referred to as a prayer tongue, to the exclusion of anything of significance within the Movement. It is not surprising that people who have minimal contact with charismatics focus on the prayer tongue as it is mysterious, and to some, bordering on scary.

Some years ago I was in a general discussion and one of the women in the group had been to a Charismatic conference in the Southwest. She had heard another woman at the conference praying, and asked her what the language was; the woman did not know. However, a third woman (from the Southwest) piped up and said “She is praying in Navajo”. The woman identifying it knew Navajo.

So the comments indicating that it is/may be a made up language or is just babble should not be taken at face value.

I first came in contact with the Movement through a priest at the University of Portland. He was such a quiet individual that one would almost think that somewhere in his ancestry there were church mice… A wonderful, prayerful priest. He was not out recruiting; people came to him and he would quietly explain the movement; if one asked further and he felt you were of good intention, he might invite you to a prayer meeting.

And a week ago a friend of mine, not Catholic, had been to a series of meetings at one of the parishes in Portland. Toward the end, she heard one of the priests praying over another, and then her, in tongues. It is a gift; not everyone gets it, and those that do in my experience are really on fire for the Lord.

And so are others who do not appear to have the gift - though they have other gifts.

Those that say that something is missing in your Christianity because you don’t speak in tongues are misguided. Not all gifts are distributed equally. There have been quotes from 1 Corinthians in this thread. Here is another from chapter 12 concerning spiritual gifts.

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledgeby means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

I’m shocked At how many Catholics believe in tongues. I thought this was the one true church. Where does the church teach that anyway?

Please note that poche said it was a Pentecostal preacher on TV. Totally irrelevant to the Catholic Church.

Needy, many thousands if not millions believe in tongues as do many priests, bishops, etc. Three popes have supported the Charismatic renewal in the Catholic Church and this is the one true church.

Thank you for sharing your experience, otjm. It is becoming tedious to follow this thread, for it is impossible to have a dialogue with naysayers who oppose this particular gift due to their refusal to listen to the Church and the ministerium who approved the CCR. That includes the last three popes.

It also includes the witness of the papal household preacher, Fr. Cantalamessa who is 100% charismatic!

In my horror, I noticed that I mistakenly “liked” poche’s post! I misread his words completely! 😮

Falling forward means you worship god. Falling backwards is rejection by god.

This would fall under the category of what would be called a private revelation. What is required here is discernment. Many times what we think and wish for we get through our imaginations. Other times the devil intervenes in order to cause trouble for souls. Then every now and then the Holy Spirit intervenes in order to build up the Church.
With respect to these charisms and private revelations, nobody is required to believe in them as an article of Faith.

Well, the one true Church accepts Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Chapter 12 sets out the spiritual gifts (also referred to as Gifts of the Spirit). Chapter 14 starts out “Pursue love, but strive eagerly for the spiritual gifts, above all that you may prophecy. For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to human beings but to God, for no one listens; he utters mysteries in spirit.”. He goes on from there; it is worth reading.

There certainly have been those who have opposed the Charismatic Movement, holding the position that the gifts were only given to the early Church; but even a cursory review of lives of the saints well after that show individuals through whom the Spirit was working. And the Church does not hold that the gifts were only given to the earl Church; as Sirach 2 has noted, three Popes have all spoken favorably and in support of the Movement.

No one is required to participate or become part of the Charismatic Movement, But I for one would be hesitant to say that it doesn’t exist when three Popes have acknowledged it as a legitimate Movement.

I think I would word it a bit differently. Given that St Paul has spent a good couple of chapters going over the Gifts of the Spirit and has said they are for the Church, I think it might be more correct to say that one is not required to believe that a specific person is exhibiting one or more of them. However, I would not suggest that someone, coming across the evidence of the gifts in an individual suggest that individual may be doing the work of the devil. It might be better to simply stay out of the matter entirely.

That is why i made the comments in post 29 as I did; it appears the priest speaking in the first video is somewhere between possibly slightly aware of the Movement, to possibly having had no contact with it whatsoever. And I say that as my experience with the Movement is that a number of gifts have been given and evidenced.
