So it sounds like since I don’t agree with you all on speaking in tongues, I’m not really Catholic. I’ve been on the verge of leaving the Catholic Church for a while now anyway. Thanks for the push, Deacon Ed. I just love the new Lutheran pastor down the road.
I would ask where you came up with that conclusion from what I said. The original post pointed out that there are over 100 million Catholic Charismatics. There are more than one billion Catholics. How do you make that jump. Please do not use me as an excuse. I merely point out the richness of the Church. Your conclusion would lead one to think that with all the religious orders within the Church, only one would lead you to heaven. Such is not the case. Each has its own spirituality for particular individuals. Just because one is not Charismatic or in a religious order does not mean they are not Catholic. For one to draw that conclusion, one has to be searching for some excuse to satisfy themselves. Don’t use this as that excuse.

Amen…what awesome explanations…I am so moved when I come here to this blog or forum! Maria…I couldnt have said that better…and po18guy…I love what you said…those who have experienced the power of God in greater reality are almost condemned or are… My story is much like Maria’s…however God is merciful and He is still working in me!!! I am seeing such awesome things and yet???I am also experiencing trials…however I KNOW I AM coming out victorious…Gods word says so…Because of Jesus! anyway thanks so much for such insightful, spiritual words…Gods word says …in James…IF we draw close to GOD He will draw close to us. Simple and so powerful!!! who wouldnt want to experience all of HIM! I believe in most cases it is out of fear…because it means we will have to change…to be like our teacher LUKE 6;40…shalom!

It was the Charismtic Renewal that gave me strength. My husband and I experienced a terrible deception which had a huge impact on our lives and if it were not for our Faith we would not have survived.

My husband was an atheist all his life - believed in God thru the influence of a Jew and attended Mass with me for 11 years before converting and is now a daily communicant. We have grateful hearts and are very happy and it is all due to our Faith.

The Catholic Church is the most exciting thing in our lives. We know we can trust its teachings and there is so much to learn. We want to share it with the world and are very sorry when someone loses faith.

Blessings:love: :yyeess:

It is a mark of integrity in a person to act on their beliefs, rather than pretending to espouse something which one does not. 👍

If you are Catholic, you most certainly are a bona fide member of Christ’s Church. The Church does not decree which devotional or spiritual practices you must participate in! Nothing that Deacon Ed has written would or should turn a Catholic from the one true Church. He calls you to a deeper, more profound faith. He calls you to a mystical relationship with the Lord Himself!

You neeed not speak in tongues to be a Catholic! I have never done so. I received a different gift. It does not bother me one bit that I have never spoken a single word in a tongue! Saint Paul said that prophecy is to be preferred to tongues. Thus, I find your post distinctly puzzling. I would hope that, if you are sincere in what you say; if you are sincere that you are actually Catholic, something as trivial as reading a thread in a forum would not turn you away from Christ in the flesh!

If you are a genuine Catholic, and have participated in the Sacraments as a true believer, if you have experience with spending time with Christ at Adoration and are considering leaving, I must pray for you. The evil one has attacked you, weakening your faith to the point that you would even consider leaving. If you are Catholic, know that you are under spiritual attack. If not, please open your heart to the original Church.

All Christian journeys ultimately lead you to Christ in the flesh.

In the meantime, may Christ’s peace be with you on your journey.

Sometimes people are just looking for an excuse to justify disobedience to God. 🤷

Just skimming over this, everyone seems to think all “charismatic’s” bash the church and are not Roman Catholic. I am Roman Catholic, I am a returned Catholic. AND I am charismatic.

The charismatic is part of my being Roman Catholic not a replacement of it.

Very well said - thank you. Also, I have never heard any charismatic Catholic bash the Church.

What a coincidence! I just found this thread after looking for books on Pneumatology and I just added these two books to my list.

“New Outpourings of the Spirit: Movements in the Church”
By Joseph Ratzinger

and

“Joseph Ratzinger: Life in the Church and Living Theology: Fundamentals of Ecclesiology”
By Maximilian Heinrich Heim

from what I read about the two books it appears that the present Pope is “into” the Charismatic movement. He is just not into heretical aberrations of it.

I will share more once I get them, read them, and I understand them.🙂

BTW: Has anyone read the book “I Believe In The Holy Spirit” by Yves Congar? I am planning to buy it.

Amen! 👍 Anyone who has read 1 Corinthians should have absolutely no objection to following Saint Paul’s “prescription”.

Christ’s peace.

I go to a Lutheran university in Chicago. Just the other day, two young women from a Roman Catholic university in Ohio (Franciscan University Steubenville) were visiting one of the students here and were invited into our Christian Life class by the professor to “lead” class, so to speak, to engage in dialouge with the students, and answer questions.
[Yes Steubenville was one of the original campus’ to experience this renewal. You might also google the term “Duquesne Weekend” for further information on the renewals beginning in the United States]
What was particularly interesting is that one of the girls introduced herself as a charismatic Roman Catholic (and also affirmed that her school was affiliated with this movement) and the other said she was part of the Charismatic Episcopal Church. They said that there are healing services at their school and people speak in tongues during mass.

Naturally, one of the questions that developed as I listened to this description of the university was whether or not this charismatic movement is sanctioned within the RCC.
Yes most Diocese have liasons with a person appointed in Rome
(It used to be Cardinal Suens) [sorry for the spelling]
The renewal is for a deeping of ones prayer life much as Cursillo or other prayer groups today may be
.
Do Traditional Roman Catholics affirm and recognize this movement or does it bring a lot of debate and controversy? Does the Pope have a stance?

This link might help just a bit…" nsc-chariscenter.org/aboutccr.htm "
Just as an aside, it was a really good class. I really enjoying having them there. They explained the seven sacraments, the rosary, Marian devotion, and their school in general. It was pretty friendly dialouge, even though she called our scholarly books and confessions “heretical” (tension behind the laughter, I assure you), it was a good time overall. I hope to spend some time with them while they’re still here.
The Renewal has perhaps the word is; evolved or grown over the last 30 years. Today many of the people who were young college students in the mid 70’s are now active in their parishs in many capacities. Many are very active in pro life activities. Many are quite active in spreading the Divine Mercy devotion or message. Some entered religious life.
Yes sometimes people may not understand the outward manifestation of gifts or the exhuberance… however many Catholics who have had contact with the renewal have found it to deepen their participation in the Church.

I hope this helps… while I am no longer involved with the renewal perse… I was for many years and my prayer group in the Los Angeles Area was one of the first major ones on the West Coast.
Blessings of Peace and All Good!

I certainly believe that the things God did in the Bible can, and do, still happen today. Personally, I don’t think things like that can be forced, but certainly accepted with warm hearts. If the Holy Spirit gives someone the ability to speak in tongues, prophesy, heal, perform miracles, etc, should we not rejoice in these good gifts? I have recently watched a documentary about God’s love for his children and how he is still working in miraculous ways today. The movie is called Father of Lights and it is a very beautiful and powerful movie about the love of God: youtube.com/watch?v=eKpPVkHlDQU
