Really. Jesus told his Apostles explicitly to baptized them in the Trinitarian formula.
Matthew 28:16-20 makes this very clear as crystal:
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshipped him but some have doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold I am with you always, to the close of the age
."

Yes of course, that is if you believe your priest instead of the Word of God. Jesus clearly states to baptize IN THE NAME of The Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. You blatantly ignore this, to believe the trinitarian baptism is in blatant contradiction to Peter and Paul. Were Peter and Paul lying and baptizing the christians of their day into some false baptism? You might as well take anything Peter or Paul wrote and tear it our of your bible.
You’re quite wrong there. Most Catholics who read the Bible study its context, as the Church strongly encourages them to do. Protestants generally do not study the context at all. In fact many of them believe it is quite wrong to do so. They think that they should simply read the words as if they fell from Heaven in isolation from the cultural and historical context in which they were written. Many protestants even insist on reading a single verse in isolation from the rest of the book and from the rest of the Bible. In fact this is one of the major reasons leading to the foundation of many of the protestant denominations.
🙂 How do either of you know what most catholics do or many protestants do, we only know for sure what we ourselves do and maybe others we are very close to, which for sure does not include most or many of any religious faction. As far as I know I dont know any catholics that dont drink (most of them way to much),carouse, cuss, say Gods name in vain, and I could go on and on… But I could say the same about some of the protestants I know as well, alot of the protestants I know are backstabbing, gossipers… But saying this I dont know even a small fraction of either groups, just because 10 protestants or 10 catholics have done horrible things (in our Judging eyes) or dont do certain things it means nothing, it doesnt mean that the rest of the factions do or dont do these things as well. All that matters is our submission and obedience to Gods Word, not Gods submission to our desires. Catholics and protestants alike claim christianity and I dont believe that half of either are true christians. I heard a poll awhile back that 98% of Americans believe they are heaven bound. Give me a break, that narrow gate wont have any hinges left after that stampede runs through it. That would mean More than 200 million people from America alone are heaven bound, but only 144,000 jews according the Bible will make it during the tribulation. I wonder how many people wont make it to heaven, if it was polled it would probable only be about 12%.
Impossible. “Catholic” is essential to our identity as full members of Christ’s Body. If you separate us from Catholicism, we are no longer Catholics, that is, we no longer have the fullness of Christianity.
It almost seems that the catholics wrote the bible or at least the words catholic, Pope, or the catholic purgatory would be written about somewhere in our Bibles.

How odd that you can differentiate between substance and appearance in the Sacrament of Our Lord’s Body and Blood but when it comes to the Papacy you cannot distinguish between the office and the man who holds it.
If the office of the papacy is “evil” and “against Christ”, surely any good Christian would refuse to have anything to do with it. You profess to admire B16’s obvious Christian zeal and his theological brilliance, yet apparently you consider him too stupid to realise that the papacy is a very fountain of evil. 🤷

Here are some quotes that are very interesting, but your right not very old:) thats funny, LOL

Really? So how come you have the authority and mind-reading skills to say in the same breath:

You’re quite a droll card, jnt.

Hooray, you got one thing right.

Q… Is God Divine, or not?

A… Yes God is divine.
Q… Is Christ Divine, or not?
A…Christ mean anointed on, annointed with what, with Gods Spirit which is the Holy Spirit. Jesus the Man was not divine but the wholeness of the Holy Spirit (yes God) was and is divine.
Q… Is the Holy Spirit Divine, or not?
A… The Holy Spirit is God so still the same answer.
Q… Do you possibly worship three separate gods?
A… No I do not worship or believe in three gods, I already stated I disagree with the trinitarian doctrines where God is changed into a god with a multiple personality disorder. God, who is the Holy Spirit indwelt Jesus Christ, after the ascension that same Holy Spirit of Jesus indwelt the Born again followers with His Spirit. I am not a trinitarian but I dont agree with the pentecostals on God-Head either.

God Bless,

Jason
Sounds EXACTLY like Jehovah’s Witnesses. Those who deny Christ’s Divinity (Mormons, JWs) are considered pseudo-Christian, but NOT Christian, I am very sad to say. It’s OK if you are JW. We debate lots of the 1800s American sects here: Mormons, SDA, JWs, you name it. By the way, none of their peculiar beliefs existed before the 1800s. All have re-interpreted scripture so as to support their beliefs. The JWs have written a “New World Translation” book that is passed off as a bible. It is pure heresy to Christians.

I believe that each of them, the Mormons in particular, know at some level of their consciousness, that if their church is not true, the Catholic is the only other possibility. From that suspicion springs much anti-Catholicism until, the truth is Divinely revealed to them and they convert.

Question: Do you love God enough to follow wherever He leads? Even to the Catholic Church? I hope it’s “Yes”.

The peace of God in Christ be always with you.

He’s anything but stupid.

People accept all kinds of falsehood for a lot of reasons other than ignorance.

good idea, since im sure you have never made a spelling mistake.

I dont deny christs divinity as all, I never claimed that. You are adding to my posts but I guess I cant blame you, what better way to distort truth than to put words in others mouths. And I am not a JW or a mormon, Just a christian that believes the bible for what it says and not what some guy tells me to believe.

Yes I agree that Jw and mormons are heretic, and so are indulgences, excommunication, and talking to the dead.

I agree that mormons are completely off the word and the leaders probably do know but they could just be blinded by thier disobedience.
Question: Do you love God enough to follow wherever He leads? Even to the Catholic Church? I hope it’s "Yes
I will follow God wherever that leads me, although I do doubt that he would lead me into what I believe the Word says is disobedience. I do believe the catholic church has some good to it but I dont think it ever could keep out the paganism of the Romans. But yes if God led me to the catholic church I would definetely go.

OK, I’ll bite. Why then does an amazingly intelligent and good Christian willingly embrace an office which is “evil” and “against Christ”??

what better way to distort truth than to put words in others mouths.
Like when you (or the site you copied from) misquote Catholic sources to try to make it appear that they are saying one should not baptise “in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” as Christ commanded us?
And I am not a JW or a mormon, Just a christian that believes the bible for what it says and not what some guy tells me to believe.
Really? You made it all up yourself, without accepting any interpretation that was suggested to you by “some guy” (or gal) ?
Yes I agree that Jw and mormons are heretic, and so are indulgences, excommunication, and talking to the dead.
And how did you get the authority to decide who is or is not a heretic? I note you evaded my question as to how you got the authority to declare who is a “real” Christian and who will be saved.
I do believe the catholic church has some good to it but I dont think it ever could keep out the paganism of the Romans.
But you apparently believe that the Catholic Church had no trouble overcoming the paganism of the Germans, Norse and (some of the) Celts. And that then centuries later the “reformers” took over this pagan-free religion.

Because he was raised Catholic in an environment with less religious pluralism than we have in the US, he went into the seminary and began priestly preparation at a very early age and the vast majority of his encounters with Protestantism have been with representatives of the largely moribund, liberal, state-church variety.

You’ve gotta be kidding.
He had to face down the Nazis whilst he was still a teenager and was forced into the German army, he was a leading young expert reformer at Vatican II, he lived through the university student anarchy of the late 60s, he has spent 60 years interacting with people of all religions and constantly discussing, reading and writing about theological subjects to and with all and sundry. He had never lived in a country with a state church until he went to the Vatican.
And you want us to believe that if only he’d had a few more chats with conservative protestants, he’d realise the truth that the papacy is evil and against Christ?
Among his voluminous writings you’ll probably find an exhaustive discussion of every possible viewpoint on the nature of the papacy and a crystal-clear explanation of why the Catholic teaching is the truth.

excommunication,
Would you mind sharing your definition of excommunication with us?
and talking to the dead.
Conjuring up a “dead” person and expecting them to talk back to us is indeed heretical. But that’s not a Catholic teaching or practice. 🙂

Asking those in heaven to pray for us is not heretical. We’re told in Hebrews 12 that we’re surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. They aren’t dead, they’re alive with Christ in Heaven, presenting our prayers before the throne of God - that’s found in Revelation.

How much influence did Constantine have in determining which books to include and would you say that he was the Church?
This is a strange question. Constantine had no influence at all in determining the canon. Are you suggesting that he did?

None of which would have any bearing at all on what we’re talking about which is, basically, the ability of a person to evaluate truth claims he has encountered only peripherally.

And no, I am not saying that “if only he’d had a few more chats with conservative protestants, he’d realise the truth that the papacy is evil and against Christ”.

Our conditioning is sometimes invincible.

If you say that I am mis-quoting, give some evidence, I quoted from angelfire very speciefic volume and page, so if what I copied was wrong then correct me with the correct quote from the said book, volume, and page. Athough the Bible teaches what I said and I really didnt need to quote anything outside the Word but I figured that some will deny anything Peter of Paul ever wrote to justify the beliefs they have been taught by their priests.
Really? You made it all up yourself, without accepting any interpretation that was suggested to you by “some guy” (or gal) ?
I make all my decisions on doctrine by filtering what I hear through the Word and not my pastor or any other preacher/priest etc… When somebody suggest or preaches something I dont just say oh well he said it so it must be true because he wouldnt lie to me he is from the church, I read up on anything that is questionable doctrine… Peter and Paul plainly state in various places how to baptize yet it is ignored by some denominations, they are interpreting what Jesus said in Mathew 28:19. Who can interpret better than them?
And how did you get the authority to decide who is or is not a heretic? I note you evaded my question as to how you got the authority to declare who is a “real” Christian and who will be saved.
Again I was stating my opinion on thier beliefs, but the only authority to know when someone is doing something contrary to the Word of God is to be a reader of the Bible. The Bible is against thier beliefs and of many other denominations.
But you apparently believe that the Catholic Church had no trouble overcoming the paganism of the Germans, Norse and (some of the) Celts. And that then centuries later the “reformers” took over this pagan-free religion.
No I do not believe they overcame paganism at all. The reformers took the majority of it our of their beliefs and came closer to truth than the church had been in centuries.
by Pixie Dust…Would you mind sharing your definition of excommunication with us?
Certainly, Excommunication is when a church basically lets it be known that a certain person that is living in a sinful lifestyle is not able to participate in communion. I have read that their is a couple different types that the catholic church hold to in different circumstances, not sure if that is true or not. The Bible does support casting someone out of the church until they repent, but in the centuries past the catholic church had used this to get Kings or other powerful individuals to do what they thought was right or what benifited the church. According to history, in some cases held the belief that they were passing judgement on the persons soul, in effect damning them to Hell.

I will finish the rest later,

God Bless

Jason

Does your Bible not have 1 Corinthians 5 in it? Most of the time in the Catholic Church barring someone from the sacrament of Holy Communion did not mean they were kicked out of the church. In the case of someone who continually sins without repentance, they’ve effectually kicked themselves out, wouldn’t you say?

Do you believe in the eternal security of the believer or do you believe that we can live our lives in such a way that our salvation is forfeited?

OOOOH! Not at all. We are incompetent to interpret scripture, but certainly not to read and study it. Guides are printed to assist in Catholic bible study, and many parish priests teach classes. Check this thread: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=115329&highlight=Catholics+when+did+you+last+read+the+bible%3F

We’re far from perfect, but we’re gaining!

Christ’s peace be always with you.
Now why would we be not capable of interpreting scripture? Are we not of the Holy Spirit?

If a normal man cannot understand the Bible, why does the Church grant an indulgence to anyone who reads the Bible for half an hour on a day?[/QUO*

Why would the church need to grant anyone something for reading Gods word?
