Chatting before, during, and after Mass

I have to say that I am not sure why there is a problem with socializing after Mass. How are we to get to know our fellow Catholics and parish members? My church doesn’t observe silence before or after, and while I would prefer some silence before, I didn’t even know there was a problem with talking once people have been dismissed. Our tablernacle is in a chapel of the vestibule and it is difficult to pray prior to Mass because of the noise. Afterwards, however, I don’t see a problem with the chatter. We do not have a cafeteria. We have parish breakfasts just once a month in a hall, and that area isn’t open except those days. We do not have a seperate gathering space, and people tend the gather in the back of the church to chat with their friends, neighbors and such. That’s a problem? They should just walk out of the church as though they do not know each other and go home?
