Pilgramage, women are called to be servants of God. Their role is different, but that does not mean they are thought of as inferior or treated as inferior.

We are supposed to do what God asks us to do, not what we decide to do while willfully ignoring His calling.
Of course they are considered inferior. They are considered incapable of being a priest, and therefore inferior to men. As no man can personally hear God’s calling to another human being, because each calling is subjective, then there isn’t a man alive who can claim to know God’s calling for another, not even a Pope (who is just a man) It can only be tested over time, but not on an individual’s sex.

God bless

This doctrine has been taught at all times and everywhere. Christ only told the Apostles to confect the Eucharist. The Apostolic Fathers are of the same opinion regarding the priesthood and the episcopate. The other Fathers teach the same.

“[T]he so-called ‘presbyteresses’ or ‘presidentesses’ are not to be ordained in the Church” (Canon 11 of the Council of Laodicea [A.D. 360]).

“Certain women there in Arabia [the Collyridians] … In an unlawful and b.asphemous ceremony … ordain women, through whom they offer up the sacrifice in the name of Mary. This means that the entire proceeding is godless and sacrilegious, a perversion of the message of the Holy Spirit; in fact, the whole thing is diabolical and a teaching of the impure spirit” (Epiphanius of Salamis,Against Heresies 78:13 [A.D. 377]).

“From this bishop [James the Just] and the just-named apostles, the succession of bishops and presbyters [priests] in the house of God have been established. Never was a woman called to these. . . . According to the evidence of Scripture, there were, to be sure, the four daughters of the evangelist Philip, who engaged in prophecy, but they were not priestesses” (ibid.).

“[W]hen one is required to preside over the Church and to be entrusted with the care of so many souls, the whole female sex must retire before the magnitude of the task, and the majority of men also, and we must bring forward those who to a large extent surpass all others and soar as much above them in excellence of spirit as Saul overtopped the whole Hebrew nation in bodily stature” (Saint John DamasceneThe Priesthood 2:2 [A.D. 387]).

“A deaconess does not bless, but neither does she perform anything else that is done by presbyters [priests] and deacons, but she guards the doors and greatly assists the presbyters, for the sake of decorum, when they are baptizing women” (The Apostolic Constitutions 8:28).

“[The Quintillians are heretics who] give women predominance so that these, too, can be honored with the priesthood among them. They say, namely, that Christ revealed himself . . . to Quintilla and Priscilla [two Montanist prophetesses] in the form of a woman” (Saint Augustine of Hippo.Heresies 1:17 [A.D. 428]).

Oh and…

And in 1995 the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in conjunction with the pope, ruled that this teaching “requires definitive assent, since, founded on the written Word of God, and from the beginning constantly preserved and applied in the tradition of the Church, it has been set forth infallibly by the ordinary and universal magisterium (cf. Second Vatican Council, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium 25:2)” (Response of Oct. 25, 1995). From Catholic.com

Wow, a non Catholic didn’t get a funeral mass or a burial in a Catholic cemetry!

I suppose they are equally annoyed she didn’t get a Jewish burial or a Hindu cremation:confused:

One would have expected her own church to attend to her funeral according to their rites and customs. I think this whole thread has turned into something of a non sequitur.

She was a dissident Catholic, not a non-Catholic. She could have seen a validly ordained priest with faculties and been reconciled with the Church in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Instead, she appears to have died publicly rejecting Christ’s Catholic Church. May God have mercy on her soul.

It is from the Pope that you have learned the nonsense that women can’t be priests isn’t it, because it’s not from God ?

God bless
The teaching is from Jesus Who ordained no woman and it is from the Church.
Through succession from Peter, the Pope still has teaching authority in the Church.

The church is formed on the teachings of Christ …

I know for a ‘FACT’ that Jesus would not have excluded me from His table. He ate with all His disciples, He ate with sinners, He ate at celebrations with strangers and so forth. He even healed the child of a woman prepared to eat from the floor under His table.
God bless
Jesus Christ ordained no woman at the last Supper or prior to that or after that.
So much for you 'FACT" which might play well in the CofE, but not in the Catholic Faith.

**I recall that the leader, your faith’s “inventor,” had no use for the Pope’s authority either.
Therefore we shall continue to disagree in the strongest possible way.

God bless you.**

Catherina, on this, I am with you 100%

Is your complaint of women being considered inferior by the Church based on anything other than their inability to become priests?

I repeat - no woman has received the calling to the priesthood. She may think she has, but she is wrong. And she is not considered inferior by the Church. I’m really sorry you feel the way you do and I understand your frustration as I once felt it, but I was wrong and you are wrong.

Whilst I understand the objection to her sexuality and the potential problems it could cause priesthood, I would like you to explain how being a woman seeking ordination is a sin please.

God bless
The CofE has enough problems trying to explain why practicing homosexuals and lesbians can become priests and bishops within their own church, much less commenting on the laws of the Catholic Church.

The CofE needs to adhere to the words of Christ, who condemned divorce many times. But doing so would be an embarrassment to it’s visible spiritual head, (who is just a woman).

Jesus deliberately chose a Samaritan woman (not man) to announce His presence to a whole nation of people, and what’s more the disciples didn’t dare question His speaking with her.

This is a word of warning to everyone today also, becareful what well you are drinking from, because God will chose someone to come and let you know that it’s not His living water. At that time not even Peter will question Him !

Jesus looked at women through God’s eyes, men look at women through the eyes of men. In a male dominated world Jesus showed us this time and again.

Peter stood up and announced at Pentecost that God’s Holy Spirit will fall on ‘women’ and men alike, that this is a fulfillment of what the prophet Joel said. This is because The Holy Spirit is falling down on a vessel, a broken being who has been remoulded in the love and forgiveness of Christ. The sex of the flesh at this point is not relevant because when we are in Christ, we are neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female (this is Biblical teaching BTW, it is living water filled with Grace for men and women equally, and Peter taught this ! )

“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

The Holy Spirit of God is quite capable of working through women and men in the same way. He is quite capable of empowering women to announce God’s kingdom, to look after His sheep, to minister, to love, to sacrifice, to lead and so on.

God bless

Does this mean you aren’t going to answer my question?

I offer no explanation. God wants the vessels who work for Him to be free of blemish for good reason, Paul learned this the hard way. However, being a woman is **not **a blemish !

It’s the individual’s own millstone if they practice homosexuality and it’s sad for any church as God has offered a way out in the practice of celibacy, which probably many priests in the CC have taken through the ages.

We are not engaging tit for tat because the CC church is struggling with issues too, issues that a woman’s presence would have diminished.

God bless

So?

Jesus also appeared first to Mary Magdalen, telling her to inform the disciples of His rising.

Sounds like Jesus (perhaps) doubly commisioned women to be earthly messengers.
If so, gooooood call - since women are known to be the better commuincators.

In any case, the support given to female ordination in the CofE is one matter.
Such support will never be given to women in the RC Church,
exactly as the dead dissident “woman priest” knew - all of her life.

You are certain to gain very little agreement on this Catholic site re women as “priests.”

Jesus Christ the Lord called only men to the priesthood.
There is no way around (or over or through) that historical fact.

Since no one is disputing the important place women have in spreading and practicing ther Faith your post is quite puzzling?

I think your opinions are tainted by 21st century western mores where equality is strangley descibed as people of different genders being able to do the exact same thing. Most of us realize how silly that is buy the time we leave kindergarten.

You already belong to a denomnation that has abanoned itself to the whim of secular society-I wonder if you want our Church to follow the same misbegotten path under the assumption this somehow would validate your denominations descent into seclaur humanism and sitaution ethics?

I don’t think she is going to answer my question. 😦
