No emergence by my area yet…strange actually.
It will be quite strange if they do not emerge as usual. Sort of like the disappearing bees…Still waiting. Surprised Al Gore hasn’t announced that Global Warming is responsible for the bad predictions on emergence yet.![]()
4-6 weeks. How long do they stay around for? Do they have a short life span?
That’s gotta be tough for the kids who want to play outside, but are afraid of bugs (girls typically) - that stinks.4-6 weeks.
Apparently so!did you eat it? Heard they are quite tasty.
I’ve heard some people eat themStill no cicadas in my area. Very strange because in 1990 the area was full of them.
Oh, I have seen bees. But then again, their hives are in our garage along the windows and by the gutters.I’m in the Chicago area and no cicadas here yet! I haven’t seen or heard one! No bees either.![]()
I said that if they are not out by June, then they probably won’t appear. I said that because the scientists I read said the soil temps should be at 64 degrees or higher well before then and June 1st was seen as a late date for emergence. We’ll see how it goes.Well, I was in Elmhurst, Villa Park and Lombard this weekend and in Elmhurst they seem to be EVERYWHERE. I saw them in only parts of Lombard and Elmhurst. They are way cool and I have prepared my dd for them, so she wasn’t too afraid when they were all over the ground and fence and tree and anything else that’s made of wood at her cousin’s. Also, I read that back in 1990 they didn’t emerge until June, so whoever said if they’re not out by June they won’t be coming out that wasn’t true in 1990.
Are you sure they are not wasps, or yellow jackets?Oh, I have seen bees. But then again, their hives are in our garage along the windows and by the gutters.
Have they dug up the sidewalks/roads in your area anytime in the past 17 years? My neighborhood doesn’t have them, but a few blocks away they’re everywhere. A new sewer system was put in on a couple of the streets in our neighborhood a year ago which is why I think we don’t have any cicadasIt is very strange. In my area Cicadas came out in huge quantities in 1990, yet this time there is not even one sighting. Amazing and quite a curious thing because my area was already built during the 1990 emergence, yet nothing this time. We are also surrounded by woods and not a sight there either, not a sound of even one singing male. Quite surprising, yet it seems there just won’t be any here.
No, and besides that there are none sighted in our entire town, or the towns close to us. It is frankly very strange.Have they dug up the sidewalks/roads in your area anytime in the past 17 years?
