Everybody has a right to spout off about same-sex marriage and equal rights. Mr. Cathy and those who share his views can have their shout, even if their views are bigoted. Likewise, the Mayor and others who reject Mr. Cathy’s backwards views on marriage equality have a right publicly to denounce prejudice. That’s the American way.
Now Mr. Cathy is “shouting” “spouting” and “bigoted”!

Yeah, and you’re sympathy will be worthless, because by then it will be much too late. You can either wake up and care now, or save your tears when problems arise later. No one who saw what some government officials are emboldened to do and realized where they would like to take us frankly wants toe sympathy of someone who said the whole time “you’re just overreacting!”

Threats like these are simply test cases for rights being taken away. They don’t work initially, but lay the ground for a slow erosion.
If you, honest to God, believe that we are going to have the police shutting businesses down on the basis of the 1st Amendment, I can only say that you and I have different opinions about the strength of the American people and their beliefs in constitutional government. I have more trust in America tha you seem to have. 🤷

I’m sure everyone here is already donating to their Church, but it’s simple math. Give to the church minus what we spend at the fast food joint or skip the fast food joint and give that money to the Church TOO.
Give to the Church and swear off the Internet.

Give to the Church and swear off using air conditioning in the summer.

Give to the Church and swear off movie/sports tickets.

You are conventionally swearing off that which you want to and not swearing off things others decry. Weird.

Too bad Obama and his friend Rahm don’t share your opinion.

Unfortunately, that is one of the things we are forced to live with if we believe in Free Speech. We have to respect the right of those who don’t agree with us or even oppose us to have their say.

I’m comfortable with the 1st Amendment even when I don’t like what I hear.

Yeah, you would think that the government of the US could do something like confiscating peoples gold or something!

So you have sworn off all restaurants?

And why give money to grocery stores, when you can just grow your own?

How far do we want to take this logic, where you have sworn off one industry because you can use that money for “real good” but refuse to swear off another industry when the same reasons apply?
Wow…it really means that much to you that everyone eat a Chick Fil A?

I don’t go to fast food places. I cook my meals at home. It is healthier for me and less expensive. I started that WAY before eating at Chick Fil A became a religious requirement.

Yeah, we haven’t seen beliefs of Christians curtailed AT ALL in this country in the last 50 years.

For a guy who is much older than me, did you fall asleep under a tree from 1950-2010?

I am not going to get into a “you guys are being drama queens, you’re being chicken littles again!” discussion. It always ends up the same. Liberals don’t see Christianity under attack, because they choose not to, or really don’t mind it happening. As always, we’re right, you’re wrong, and any discussion to the contrary is pointless.

Good luck with the continued weight loss.

Again with your strawman arguments. You are the only one saying it is.

There is no positive obligation to eat at Chick Fil A. There are many solid moral reasons not to dine there, such as you don’t like that kind of food, rather eat at home, etc. Of course, some would prefer to spend their money there and there is nothing wrong with that either.

No, but I don’t like the inference that people could do more good by avoiding Chick Fil A and helping the poor, as though that is some barometer of your Christian-ness, when you’ve conveniently ignored other areas you could do without to help the poor. We are EXTREMELY generous with how much we give the Church. Eating out occasionally does not hinder this.

When you grow your own food and shut off the internet, then come and tell me how much more good I can do for the poor. Until then, save the lessons for some one who needs your advice.

And you’re hyperbolic nonsense about it being a religious requirement is silly. People want to support a pro-Christian establishment because there are so few any more. That bothers you because you are a liberal, and for some reason, trying to please God in the public sphere is irksome. Blech!

As I’ve said before - you and Rich are simply trying to belittle those of us who support traditional marriage. You are really no different than the city officials who practice viewpoint discrimination in that you would rather Catholics be silent or apathetic when it comes to the same sex marriage issue.

Eating at CFA is not a religious requirement, and you know it; that’s a “clever” jab designed to insult us.

Hyperbole is her middle name apparently. Why bother discussing it with people who flat out lie in their posts. I expect that from my 2 year old, but never here.

I agree completely. I have no problem with people going there if that’s what they like. I just find it amazing how if you dare to say anything about NOT eating there you’re automatically considered an enemy or something. It really seems to be upsetting people here that there are people who aren’t running there to give them money.

Wow…personal attacks now. Very nice.

A personal attack would be making fun of your shoes. Highlighting your own posts is just being honest.

I simply pointed out that you lied in your posts, making up assertions of religious requirements and other nonsense. We are supposed to be adults, and tell the truth here. That’s all we expect.

If that offends you as much as it does a business take a pro-God stance, that’s unfortunate.

Apparently it is fundamental to those defending traditional marriage. Those of us who cook our own food are gay marriage advocates, it seems. 🤷

Why would I buy food that is not only unhealthy but soggy and tasteless just to prove a point? Better to take the money I would waste on that and put it in the basket at Mass. Maybe some other Catholics might think about that too.
I said water. Is their water soggy and tasteless?

And those of us who eat out now and then don’t do enough for the poor. See, I can pretend to feel sorry for myself online too!
