**Why are people claiming Cathy went quiet? **
It’s probably propaganda. In order to claim a victory from a loss and save face, it necessitates a narrative where the main antagonist to a political agenda has been vanquished or silenced forever by his foes.

**Why are people claiming Cathy went quiet? **Just like 2 days ago (AFTER his major comments) I saw him on a news show defending his views at a Chick-Fil-A, and I saw a picture at him at a Chick-Fil-A greeting customers.

I do not think he is being supressed, and the corporations statements did not contradict what he said (even if they added that they are not in the political sphere).
[Whoops–sorry, you said this! Well, here, I’m sharing the picture. 🙂 ]

Not to mention he was greeting customers yesterday: abcnews.go.com/meta/search/imageDetail?format=plain&source=http://abcnews.go.com/images/Politics/ht_dan_cathy_chickfila_tk_120802

He’s great!

I think this whole Chick-fil-A ordeal is rather silly… no not silly… outright STUPID 😛
I mean come on guys, its just food, and people believing what ever they want to believe… He’s not the first and last person to have a stand for traditional marriage… and people have opposite views as well. Other big companies stand for gay marriage/right like…

Google/Youtube, Oreo’s, Allstate, Amazon, American Airlines, Apple, Applebee’s, Best Buy, Clorox, Coca-Cola, Costco, Delta Airlines, Ford, Gap, General Motors, Gerber Baby Products, Hilton Hotels, Home Depot, IMB, Levi’s, Marriot International, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Nationwide, Nike, Olive Garden, Pepsico, Proctor and Gamble, Red Lobster, Rite Aid, Sears, Southwest Airlines, Starbucks, State Farm, Target, United Airlines, UPS, Walgreens, Walt Disney Company…

Now I don’t see people boycotting or overly politicizing their business because guess what?.. Get over it… -_-

When ever I eat Chick-fil-A I’m not thinking… “oh yay they support traditional marriage” nope! I’m thinking “oh yum this chick fil a sauce is delicious!”

It’s not stupid and it’s not just about food.

I have been involved in boycotts; the latest was Pepsico and had nothing to do with any official Pepsico stand re gay marriage. And guess what? Pepsico came around and now I buy its products again. Campbells was boycotted and the same thing happened. Boycotting (or its opposite) is a tool that everyone can use to show their displeasure (or pleasure) of a company’s way of doing business.

Not only did I boycott Pepsico; I sent the company an email telling them why I would no longer purchase their products. I intend to send an email to Chick-fil-A just to let them know I support them (there are none where I live). I don’t even know if I would like the food at Chick-fil-A.

Do you think it’s appropriate for the mayor of a very large city (Chicago) to condemn a company by saying it is not welcome in that city, based on a statement its owner made regarding the institution of marriage?

It really has very little to do with food. It’s much more complicated than that.

So what your saying is that people should boycott chick-fil-a if they disagree with it? So that Chick-fil-A can change its views on marriage? Because, you know, people would get tired of “supporting” them because I mean there’s only so much chick-fil-a one can eat… but boycotting it isn’t too bad… although it is delicious… all I’m saying is that supporting or boycotting is silly… it really is… let a man believe whatever they want to believe and let there company run as long as they’re not running there business with something immoral/illegal like slave labor or child labor or something.

In any case… I still think this is silly… if i didn’t think it was silly and actually wanted to politicize it I would boycott Chick-fil-A for making my food political.

Everyone showing up in huge crowds certainly showed there are a lot more people who support traditional marriage than the media might portray.
Indeed. That, it seems to me is the primary point.
However, it’s ridiculous to think buying a chicken sandwich is the same as donating money to a PAC or politician.
That would be what is known as a straw man. I have not heard a single person claim that buying a sandwich at Chick-fil-A yesterday was equivalent to donating money to a PAC or politician. 🤷

Chick-fil-a has every right to say they don’t support gay marriage. And people who don’t like the idea that they donate millions of dollars to organizations who believe in conversion therapy and that homosexuality and pedophilia are related have every right not to patronize their business based on that, or any other reason they choose. I don’t see what the big hullabaloo is.

I think I accidentally deleted the whole mayor and city thing when i was replying to you… and No I think its even stupider for mayors to take a stand like that against a business… The mayor of Houston, who herself is a lesbian, is too smart for that and hasn’t taken a ridiculous stand like that… even though Houston is a liberal city that, if we took a vote/count probably would approve of gay marriage.

Chick-fil-A didn’t make their food political. The haters on the Left made it political. If the lefties had taken your advice and allowed a man to “believe whatever he wanted to believe and let their company…,” then there would not have been the response yesterday. 🤷

Please re-read my post. I’ve added to it.

It’s not silly at all. It’s not about food; it’s about the mayor of Chicago blasting Chick-fil-A because of that statement regarding marriage. Chick-fil-A is no longer welcome in Chicago, according to the mayor. This is what is happening - when a person is considered to be non-PC, that person and his/her company are condemned.

I’ve worked for county government. I know a bit about how it works. Chick-fil-A plans to open a new store in Chicago. I know what happens when someone like the mayor of a city expresses his displeasure about a company. Where I worked, the Board of Supervisors could out-and-out turn down an application for a business license. So can the city. It has been done before.

It’s not about the food. It’s about free speech and what happens to someone who uses his First-Amendment right to free speech in today’s world. He gets slammed if his free speech does not condone “PC” values. He (and his company) are called “haters.”

You didn’t delete it. I edited my post.

I have not read this whole thread, so I apologize if this has already been mentioned. I just saw this on facebook, and it’s extremely relevant. Does anyone know if it is true?

Sorry for the large size. I tried to make it smaller, but for some reason it keeps showing up large.

How very odd that you declare that it’s extremely relevant and then ask if it’s true. Great googly moogly, if it ain’t true, how could it possibly be relevant???

When you did your Internet research, what did you discover?

Rhetorical question–I’m going to bed. 🙂

:coffeeread:

Chick-fil-a has long been the darling of Christian conservatives, not only for its store policies but because the company has frequently donated to organizations of the Christian Right e.g. American Family Alliance. The company may not be a direct Culture Warrior, but its sympathies have been long known.

As to why Cathy’s recent, rather innocuous, statement led to the dust-up we are currently experiencing, I don’t know. I think it rather odd since Chick-fil-a’s political leanings are old news.

By what criteria do you call Houston a liberal city?

Really? Ever spend time at Democratic Underground or read through the comments at Huffington Post? Being critical of another person is not hate. Much of the commentary here is good natured ribbing. Iron sharpens iron. You cannot truely love another person if you cannot be honest…and direct with them. At the end of the day, many of the people here who seem to detest each other end up praying for each other and would come to the rescue of the other, in spite of the apparent animosity. The ones that have true unrepentant animus towards other posters usually find themselves suspended or banned completely.
