A gay friend of mine brought up a good point. Why don’t Christians turn out in these numbers to volunteer at homeless shelters?
I think they do, when a work day is chosen. However, shelters tend to need volunteers who show up regularly, rather than a large batch of volunteers who show up only once. In both cases, though, they are a local effort and is usually specific to one shelter and one church at a time. Often there is a long term relationship between the shelter and the individual churches involved. And the focus is on what the volunteers can accomplish while they are there.A gay friend of mine brought up a good point. Like at Thanksgiving when there are sometimes too many volunteers.I think they do, when a work day is chosen. However, shelters tend to need volunteers who show up regularly, rather than a large batch of volunteers who show up only once.
Amen to that! The Chick fil a Day was a national campaign, and it was a one-off. Its over and done with now, and everyone is patting themselves on the back. It was more political theater than anything. and really was just for show.
They do volunteer. Some are behind the scenes making casseroles or sandwiches. Some by donating money.A gay friend of mine brought up a good point. Why don’t Christians turn out in these numbers to volunteer at homeless shelters?

Let us not forget the equation that if time = money, then the inverse is also true, money = time. Some people don’t have alot of extra time, so they donate a large portion of money to homeless shelters to fund their charitable operations. They do volunteer. Some are behind the scenes making casseroles or sandwiches. Some by donating money.
It’s kind of like why don’t Christians do more for unwanted pregnancies. They do, non Christians just don’t know about it.
Christians generally don’t brag about the volunteer work they do.
It seems to me that Christians are often accused of not backing up their wrods with their actions with no basis for that statement. The proof should lie with the accuser, not the accusee.Let us not forget the equation that if time = money, then the inverse is also true, money = time. The basic fundamental tenet of logic is that if you are making a claim, the burden of proof is on you, not the person you are making the claim against. Maybe someone needs to tell Hairy Reid over in the Senate. It seems to me that Christians are often accused of not backing up their wrods with their actions with no basis for that statement. I’m sorry. I guess I am in a sour mood today. I apologize for any offense I may have caused to you or to other people here. What a cynical response.![]()
But, an honest response that cuts to the chase about what the “Appreciation Day” was all about. What a cynical response.![]()
Aren’t you the one who tells people not to put words in people’s mouths? I haven’t seen anyone “pat” themselves on the back. But, an honest response that cuts to the chase about what the “Appreciation Day” was all about.
Dale has never been a poster who goes over the top in his measured posts.![]()
I think that Dale didn’t mean that literally.Aren’t you the one who tells people not to put words in people’s mouths? I haven’t seen anyone “pat” themselves on the back.
Maybe so, but isn’t hyperbole common coin on this Forum? And the words “for show” and “political theater” are a bit hyperbolic.
No doubt, but Dale didn’t accuse them of being otherwise. From what I have seen, the people who attended the CfA day were well-mannered, good-humored, and had a spirit of fun about them.
They do-in massive numbers. Why dont homosexuals show up to help rather than standing in front of fast food joints necking?A gay friend of mine brought up a good point. Why don’t Christians turn out in these numbers to volunteer at homeless shelters?

Your homeless shelters are lucky. There are a sufficient number of volunteers at ours here, but not at all in massive numbers. Sounds like your volunteers outnumber the homeless. They do-in massive numbers.
I’m sure that some do. Volunteers don’t wear signs that say “I’m Straight,” or “I’m Gay.” Just like not knowing if the straight volunteers are Catholics or Protestants. Why dont homosexuals show up to help rather than standing in front of fast food joints necking?
I’m sure Bob was pointing out the stupidity of the original question, as opposed to questioning whether gay people volunteer. For some reason it is okay to fuss about the volunteerism of those who bought a sandwich on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, but the folks who showed up for a kiss-in are beyond reproach.I’m sure that some do. Well, he did say, “Why dont homosexuals show up to help rather than standing in front of fast food joints necking?” Sounds like questioning their volunteerism to me.I’m sure Bob was pointing out the stupidity of the original question, as opposed to questioning whether gay people volunteer.
Who says we don’t? We are also forbidden numerous times to be boastful about things Matthew 6:1 is why we don’t let people know what we do. “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.” Most Catholics probably don’t even know that the Sisters of the Poor which is Mother Teresa’s order, have to take a vow of poverty and they have to beg for food just like the people they serve.A gay friend of mine brought up a good point. Please read my post again. You missed my, and possibly Bob’s, point entirely.Well, he did say, “Why dont homosexuals show up to help rather than standing in front of fast food joints necking?” Sounds like questioning their volunteerism to me.![]()
They’re a bit over the top, me thinks. When Mother Teresa came to LR some decades ago to help dedicate a convent for them, she insisted that the A/C be taken out before the nuns would move in. I lost a lot of respect for her that day. Didn’t she trust her nuns not to turn it on? Couldn’t an electrician just disconnect the wiring if she didn’t trust them? Most Catholics probably don’t even know that the Sisters of the Poor which is Mother Teresa’s order, have to take a vow of poverty and they have to beg for food just like the people they serve.
