What would the cause of action be?
It would have to be a quantified amount of money and time lost to the political grandstanding.

If the could quantify the loss to specifics, I believe the suit could go forward.
At least in theory.

Actual fact though, I doubt they could quantify losses or recover them.

Would they block a strip club or an adult bookstore as well? Or are they blocking the fast food franchise due to their traditional values stance?
Apply to open one, and you’d see. But, in Santa Barbara, I’d think those businesses would get tossed as well. Santa Barbara is oh, so particular about who lives there and who does business there. Can’t disturb the city’s image, you know. 😃

Folks, it’s virtually impossible to open any establishment in Santa Barbara which is even close to a 24/7 kind of operation: i.e., late hours, lots of traffic, not to mention in violation of architectural standards. (I opened the link; it’s only one paragraph, + a video. I don’t watch video links unless, well, the video is really entertaining, like a movie. I really, really like the written word when it come to news reports, and I don’t respect media outlets too lazy to summarize a video.)

Perhaps many of you have not been to Santa Barbara. It’s not unlike Carmel. It has historic appeal and intends to keep itself that way. Personally, I wouldn’t live in SB because of what I observe to be inflated housing prices. (Like most cities, not every house is gorgeous or even kept up; yet one pays for the “privilege” of the zip code even if the building itself does not warrant the price; the same goes for hotel prices per night: inflated.) However, those who do live in SB don’t mind it that way, and definitely not all of them are rich. Some are retired or partially unemployed and very unwealthy.

If you try to find a humble, affordable restaurant open beyond 6 pm, let alone open beyond 8 pm, good luck with that. I don’t mean chains; I just mean anything. City “closes” for all intents and purposes about dinner time.

Even the train station. I rode from SB to San Bernardino several times, and the train station fits in with that image the city demands.

The roadblock in Santa Barbara has been removed.
[UPDATE, 10:00 a.m.]: In the wake of the non-vote, Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider addressed the issue in an open letter to the community on Tuesday evening. Explaining first that she too does not agree with the views of Chick-fil-A’s CEO, Schneider took exception with the politicizing of an otherwise non-political process.
“The City’s approval process about Chick-fil-A’s building application is not about gay marriage, it’s about the design of a building, and the approval of the project should be based on those merits alone,” wrote the mayor, later adding, “I would hope that the project would be approved or denied based not on personal, religious, or political beliefs, but on the merits of the application.”
To that end, City Planner Bettie Weiss informed ABR members late Tuesday that, despite their abstention, city staff issued an after-the-fact administrative approval of the landscaping and patio tweaks, thus allowing building permits to go forward.

I’ll PM you, if that’s OK.

How many times must he say how CfA’s food tastes? I think he’s trying to get at something.
Oooo…talking about me behind my back!

I mention it because if I simply say I don’t eat there then I am “part of the gay agenda”. This would be news to the gay friends I used to have who dumped me when I returned to the Church. I’m about as far from their gay agenda asi I can possibly be. 😃

CatholicBoy, I think the Christian thing is to take Seeker at his word. His posting history in general on CAF would merit that. 🙂

(I do not think he is part of The Gay Agenda, even though there is no question that the Gay Agenda exists, has been written about by gays themselves, and regularly rears its head by way of new visitors to CAF – sometimes claiming a Catholic identity, sometimes not.) There’s no evidence that Seeker is part of that crowd, though. As qui-est-ce said, he is trying to live his faith, like all of us, and like all of us, could use prayers. 🙂

I agree.

I wish people would stop describing it.

Every time, one of two things happens…
Either I reflect on it, knowing that it is untrue…and feel a compulsion to go buy more chicken.
Or I reflect on it, agree…and feel a compulsion to go buy chicken.

I am going to blow my budget apart with all of these extra trips through the Chick-Fil-A.

Try Wendy’s. You may find it tastier. 🙂

I remember visiting Wendy’s website while Dave Thomas was still alive. The website seemed more open about his faith, at that time. Now, I don’t think there’s anything there about his faith. I remember the food as tasting good, but for some reason, I was concerned about the calorie and fat content. It’s also expensive for someone of my socio economic status, which is the same reason I probably won’t go too often to CfA.

Bacon, meat, cheese, meat, cheese, meat…Yeah. That helps a lot.😉
I meant their chicken sandwiches, which I think are tastier than KFC’s or CfA’s. And, even with the other items, you can have them make it the way you want. I go through the drive-through and order “Cheesy Cheeseburger with no cheese or dressing.” Sounds odd, but they understand. I get a single patty, a slice of tomato, and a piece of lettuce. Low-fat and low grease. And for only a buck! 👍
