Here is MY completely unscientific take on these numbers from my own experience:
Background:
I am a Catholic convert who believes everything the Faith teaches, including the call to love my neighbor as well as the condemnation of the sin of homosexuality. So, I have many friends and loved ones who are homosexual and I probably could do a better job at helping them go to Heaven, but I digress.
The study:
I have 170 facebook friends, representing a wide variety of people I have known throughout my entire life. I have 7 friends who are openly homosexual. I am relatively confident that the rest are heterosexual, although I will allow for those who may be latent.
Analysis: So, 7 out of 170 is a little over 4%. Allowing a generous 2% increase for latency, I am going with a range of 4%-6%. Oddly enough, this falls almost precisely between the pro-homosexual and anti-homosexual numbers, which seem to make it very credible indeed!
