There is an underground Roman Catholic Church in China which is said to have alliances to Rome. This is the church they are talking about. Sometimes you see Cardinals being proclaimed by the Pope and he doesn’t say who they are or where they are, often they are in China.
No but the article would seem to suggest that you or I (who don’t attend the underground Church in China), if we were Olympic talent, would be PREVENTED from attending just because we are Roman Catholics. There is an underground Roman Catholic Church in China which is said to have alliances to Rome. I would have to agree. Sounds like China may be setting up to attempt to do what Hitler tried to do at the Berlin games. Claim racial superiority. The article also mentions “other Christian churches” – seems to me China would be eliminating a good percentage of the potential competitors.
The banned groups will include members of religious groups not sanctioned by the state, including the underground Catholic and other Christian churches; “key individuals in ideological fields,” “counter-revolutionary” figures, the Dalai Lama and all affiliates, “individuals who instigate discontentment toward the Chinese Communist Party through the Internet,” and certain types of “handicapped” persons.
Members of the indigenous religious group Falun Gong would be barred, as would “family members of deceased persons” killed in “riots” – a euphemism for events such as the Tiananmen Massacre – and Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province, which the regime brands “national separatists.”
. (emphasis added )Foreign athletes, members of the media, Olympic staff members, referees, sponsors, dignitaries, and the International Olympic Committee itself, will all be investigated, to determine whether they fall into any of the 43 categories
ban Catholics from games…gee what a compliment…a regime that was placed into power by Truman and Marshall has murdered some 64 million of its own people and we see a post like this! again]/QUOTE
You might want to read up on your history. Roosevelt and Truman fought AGAINST Mao Zedong and the Communist rebels by providing the Nationalists with weapons and money. Hardly putting them in power in my opionion.
Definitely not. The games are about a year away not. Too late to change venues. All they can do is cancel them.I wonder if China disclosed this to the IOC at the time they petitioned to have the games brought there. I bet not…otherwise the IOC would possibly have made a different choice.
Mixing sports and faiths is ludicrous. I wonder if they will start checking the religions of the tourists who come to see the games as well and turn them away too?? Bizarre! More reasons to pray.
Good for youI just sent a letter to six senators (Brownback, Kennedy, Kerry, Cornyn, Hutchison, and McCain) asking them to investigate and condemn these actions. I have little faith in the political process, but it makes me feel like I’ve done something practical.
Can you tell me where you found this? My husband is a rabid Olympic fan, and he pointed out that not only do we, who boycotted in '80 (as did China), still participate, but all the Communist countries (except Romania) did in '84. In fact, check out this map of countries who’ve boycotted, and when:The IOC has also blackmailed countries after the Moscow boycott. If you boycott games, you will be barred from future competitions.
The operative word is AFTER. The rule/threat was made to avoid what happened in Moscow and the subsequent retaliation by the USSR who boycotted the 84 Olympics. I remember it clearly on the news. Can you tell me where you found this? If the IOC bars countries who boycott, how have we been going since '80? And the better question, how did China get it for '08?
Thanks!
