Christ is everything

What does it mean for Christ to be everything to you (or anyone)?

For me, a large part of it is knowing truth - the fullest sense of the truth that we are capable of understanding while we’re still here on earth. Knowing more about Christ is one way in which we grow closer to him. That’s why solid doctrine and scripture interpretation is important to me. Does that make sense?

I’m Catholic because, to me, the Catholic Church does possess a very large amount of truth. This is a conclusion I reached after a lot of study and thinking. I don’t consider the church more important than Christ anymore than I consider the Bible more important - if he didn’t exist, I wouldn’t consider it very important at all. It’s only important to me insofar as it brings me closer to him.

Jesus didn’t just leave behind a book. No, he hand-picked disciples, assigned Peter the leader, and even in the Bible (acts 15), they are debating which doctrine to believe, and they don’t split when they disagree. To me, this indicates a single, important, united church, in possession of great truths and very close to Christ.
Do you agree that the main benefit of the life and death of Christ is to bring us sinners to God, reconciling us to the Father so we are restored to a personal and intimate relationship to God as an adopted child of God? We are now able to call upon God as our Heavenly Father. As a child of God through the work of Christ, we now are able to begin to learn to glorify God and enjoy Him.

Of course I do.

Who wrote, preserved andcompiled the books in your New Testament?

There is a great book called ‘Salvation is from the Jews’ by Roy Shoemann. You should check it out.
Capernicus and the Jews by Daniel Gruber.
Just as men mistakenly placed the earth at the center of the universe they have placed “the church” at the center of Gods plans and purposes.

Who is going to rescue us from this body of death?

CHESTERTONRULES;4492292:
I see that you acknowledged the signifcant issue of the death of Christ for us. However, you miss the significant implication of His perfect sinless life, obeying the will of the Father perfectly. We know that Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fullifll it. Why do you think the life of Christ is so important for the Christian. The life and death of Christ are both important for us Christians, why?
I see that you are trying to avoid the issue by posting the obvious.

What do these verses mean to you?

Matthew 18

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

John 20
21Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

1 Timothy 3
15if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

2 Thes 2
15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

Matthew 16

17Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Do you want to discuss this or do you just want to try to prove your point?

Since you have ignored post 68 it seems you are trying to prove a point rather than answer your original question. We have kindly taken out time to try to explain it to you but you keep dodging questions and spouting your own rhetoric. Thus no answer we give you will satisfy you since your mind is already made up. This seems evident from your responses.

These are all God’s truth. The church consists of all that Christ redeemed throughout history. It is not an exclusive denomination like the Roman Catholic Church. Let’s try to focus on Jesus Christ and not issues like Peter being a rock and apostolic succession. Help me understand why the Roman Catholic Treasury of Merit consists of Christ righteousness, Mary and Joseph’s righteousness, and Roman Catholic saints righteousness. Why isn’t the merit of Jesus Christ enough to fill the entire Treasury of Merit? It seems if you use human merit in addition to Christ’s merit, you are implying that Jesus’ merit and righteousness is not good enough. The topic of this thread is saying the Christ is everything, and His righteousness is perfect for us as Christians. Do you see how the Treasury of Merit concept can bring down the work of Jesus Christ for us as Christians? Christ is everything to the Christian!

We are proclaiming to the world that Jesus is the Truth, The way and The light. We proclaim this as the church. There is no exalting of the church, there is only exalting of Christ through utilization of the church.

My faith is between God and myself. The Church is a venue which I use to worship my God and receive His Holy sacrament of the eucharist. It pleases God to have built His Church or He would not have sent Jesus to Peter.

Matt: 16:18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it”.

What is the rock?

Read 1 Cor 11:18 through 28
Tell me what you think Jesus is trying to say?

1 Cor 11:22
“What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the Church of God, and shame those who have nothing”
Hi Ruby,

I did not mean to ignore your post. However, how is your posting related to the thread topic and OP? If you can help me understand the link between the OP and your posting, I will try my best to answer it. However, if you are avoiding the centrality of the thread topic, then that’s another issue. Christ is supreme and not the church. God is changing each member of the church to the image of His beloved Son. Why does God love you, because you are a member of the Roman Catholic Church, or because of Jesus Christ?

Why don’t you keep going a few verses to get an idea of what happens to the church?

(1Timothy 4:1-3)
1 “Now the Spirit speaketh explessly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats. which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”

Verse 3 is/was done by the RCC, so Paul’s prophetic warning could be said to apply to it; at least against its claim of always being the pillar of truth.

but there is a problem. You might have our belief in who Jesus is, from reading the Bible, what about JW who have a different view? who is correct, you or a JW and why? an SDA or JW?

if everyone is to follow Jesus as he thinks is correct, then it’s a chaos don’t you think?

I believe Jesus Christ is everything for the Christian. All of the unsearchable riches are found in Christ. All of the promises are yes in Christ. I am confused why the Catholic Church is so important to Catholics when Christ is everything to the Christian. Do you want to help me understand why the Catholic Church is so important to Catholics when our life is hidden in Christ?
Your position is already clear from your answers. Your not trying to understand but rather trying to prove your point under the guise of needing help. We tried to help you but you just refute everything everyone is saying. There are some really good and true answers here for you but you refuse to try to understand them and thus you are not really searching for help but rather just trying to start get your point across. It won’t work.

The living Christ will set you free, not our denominational memberships such as the Roman Catholic denomination, Baptist denomination, Presbyterian denomination, Lutheran denomination, non-denominational denomination, etc. Christ is the savior and Lord who will set you free. Let’s grow in love for the Lord Jesus Christ and not our denominational churches over our affections for God.

Hebrews 12

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

None of that is an issue within the Catholic Church. She does not forbid marriage nor does she forbid any food at all. My translation here at my office has “forbidding certain foods” instead of abstaining from meat. I wonder which is closer to the Greek

Please, let’s don’t stray from side issue like what we can eat or drink, the Apostle Peter, etc… but instead let’s focus on Jesus Christ.

The better question is actually. “Why aren’t there more celibate clergy among n-C Christians who claim to be ‘Bible Only’ believers?”

I have an article on my blog that dispels this fallacious and unscriptural a-C allegation.
Priestly celibacy is unBiblical. NOT!

You would have to actually read the post to see how it is related as we were discussing this last night and the post #68 continues our conversation and directly answers your questions to me. I can’t help you read it lol

Can you show me anywhere in authentic and authoritative Catholic documentation that teaches anything other than that we profess that Christ is everything?

If not then I would assert that you are arguing against a straw man. 🤷

What did Jesus Christ say?

Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

Matthew 18

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Underdog you posted this quote. Do you understand it? What does this verse mean to you?
