Do you suppose those who came after the apostles listened to them?

Do you assume that the chain of command has been broken?

What is your understanding of the Treasury of Merit. The deposit of merit is made by the righteousness of Christ, the righteousness of Joseph and Mary, and the meritorious righteousness of Catholic Saints throughout history. Is my understanding correct?

The debate about authority and apostolic succession is important and deserves to be debated on a seperate thread. However, the supremacy of Jesus Christ as being everything to the Christian is still superior as a topic to discuss (IMO). Let’s stay focused on Jesus Christ in His life and death for the Christian. If you love the person of Jesus Christ more than your denominational church, then you might be able to see my point.

This is not a different debate.

When Jesus says that we reject HIM when we reject those he sent, it is important that we find out who he sent, right?

This is a key to my convicted beliefs as a convert to Catholicism.

Who determines the true interpretation of scripture?

I don’t have a reference Church Militant. Either my understanding is correct, or you need to correct it with official RC teaching. Does the Treasury of Merit contain more than the righteousness of Jesus Christ which He merited by His life and death?

Catholics do not put the Church a head of Christ.
Christ is the head of the Church!!

Catholics and the Church put Christ first in everything we do and believe. The Roman Catholic Church is Christ centered! We believe that the Church has the deposit of faith from the apostles and guides us to Christ in her teaching, sacraments, etc. I personally believe that it is easier to have a personal relationship with Christ through the Catholic Church because it gives us so much help and guidance. And to answer another previous question…there is nothing in the deposit of faith that contradicts the Holy Scripture (Bible) or what the apostles taught( Sacred Tradition)
And while no human can know the fullness of Christ completely, the Catholic Church has the most “fullness of faith”. As another poster said…other churches have some of the truth of Christ, but the Catholic Church has all that has been revealed. And that’s why my love for Christ and my personal relationship with Him lead me right back to the Catholic Church when I was looking for the Church that most closely teaches what Christ taught!

We can agree on the Apostles in the Bible. To discuss apostolic succession avoids the issue of the supremacy of Jesus Christ for us. Is Jesus Christ enough for the Christian regardless of our church memberships? By your postings, it appears you are saying Jesus Christ is not enough for the Christian.

Thanks Lynn, but before you continue…please let me know who’s righteousness is contained in the Treasury of Merit? I think the official Roman Catholic teaching consists of metorious righteounsess of more than just Jesus Christ’s righteousness, correct?

If you do, then you are rejecting him.

Thanks for the links, but I will not access links on this thread because they tend to derail the thread topic. Again, is Jesus Christ everything to the Christian? Does the Treasury of Merit contain the righteousness of Jesus Christ, the righteousness of Joseph and Mary, and the righteousness of all the Catholic Saints throughout history? I know the Roman Catholic Church dispenses the merits of others, but who’s righteousness is being dispensed by your church? I am saying that Jesus Christ’s righteousness filled the Treasury of Merit, overflowing over the top.
