Underdog,

If Jesus is everything, can you tell me if Judas was chosen by Jesus for any particular reason?
Hi notsmart,

Judas was chosen by Jesus just like Pharoah was chosen by God for the divine purpose of God. Please read these two scriptures slowly and you will answer your own question. It was necessary and ordained that the Christ would suffer and die. By divine providence, Judas was chosen to be an instrument to fullill what was ordained to come to pass for Jesus to suffer and die.

6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. [1] 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them [2] in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, [3] that they also may be sanctified [4] in truth. - John 17

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” - Rom 9

15 In those days Peter stood up among the brothers (the company of persons was in all about 120) and said, 16 “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. 17 For he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.” 18 (Now this man acquired a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong [4] he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 “For it is written in the Book of Psalms,

“‘May his camp become desolate,
and let there be no one to dwell in it’;

and

“‘Let another take his office.’ - Acts 1

God has His vessels of mercy and vessels of wrath.

For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, - 1 Thes 5

and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. - 1 Peter 2:8

Could you please answer my two questions first?
I have an even better idea: You answer questions put to you.
  1. What exactly are your “beliefs”?
  2. What “denomination” do you belong to?
  3. What is your purpose on these forums?
  4. Why do you continually violate civil laws by the illegal use of a copyrighted image?
  5. Are you aware of Jesus Christ’s stance on that issue?
  6. Why do you continue to violate other forum rules?
No answers for you until you provide some answers. 😃

Are you a “chicken”…or just a “noisemaker”?

I believe what was revealed to the Apostle Peter. Jesus is the Christ! God is building His church for His own glory. Let the nations be glad and rejoice in Jesus Christ!

Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock [2] I will build my church, and the gates of hell [3] shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed [4] in heaven.” 20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

God is changing sinners to the image of His beloved Son for His own glory and our good!

What do you believe RobHom? What are the reasons that you are a Christian? What is your purpose in life? Why do you love God. Please try to answer my sincere questions to you.

The true church that is united to Jesus Christ is not divided because God has added redeemed sinners to His church for His own glory. Those who are truly united to Jesus Christ who worship God in a Roman Catholic community are my dear brothers and sisters in Christ. I don’t think official Roman Catholic teaching only acknowledges Catholic Christians as being their brother and sisters in Christ, correct? That’s the point of the thread. Why do Catholic seem to put the Catholic Church above Jesus Christ. Do Roman Catholic Christians take greater pride of being Roman Catholic Christians over and above other Christians who so happen to worship in non-Roman Catholic communities? The reason I am here is the same reason why everyone else is here. Do you believe in random chance and blind fate that we are communicating with each other? Divine providence is why we are all here. God does not make a denomination distinction such as Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Anglican, etc. If you take pride in your religious community affiliation over and above of being united to Christ, then please continue on this thread. Christ is everything to the Christian! Our lives are hidden in Christ or should be. The unsearchable riches are found in Christ. If you want to know what God is like, look to Jesus Christ. As Christians, we need to remind our brothers and sisters to look deeper to Jesus Christ, especially to Jesus Christ and Him crucified. We are on a section called non-Catholic religions. Why are you on this section of the forum site? It seems by the name of this section, this is an area where non-Catholic Christians can participate. It sure seems that non-Catholic Christians are attacked very quickly on this public forum. Why is that? Who has really created the divison in the body of Christ?

The central message of Underdog:

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12

Let’s look upward toward Heaven where Jesus is at the right hand of God interceding for us.

I don’t think this guy wants to discuss or debate or anything.

It looks to me like he’s doing nothing more than using this thread (and CAF) as a preaching pulpit.

Look at all the posts with nothing but scripture unrelated to the topic…and then of course there’s all the C&Ps of cartoon characters and insulting misrepresentations of the Catholic faith.

Hey…maybe he’ll read these two very important links so he’ll understand why we’re about to report him to the Mods.

Rachel Malloy’s pretty easy going, but I don’t think she’d find UD’s posts on this thread in compliance with the Forum Rules
and Banned Topics, do you guys?

I mean we all know he’s talking through his hat and been patient in answering him, but instead of a discussion, this has become nothing but a time wasting pulpit for him to preach against what he’s been mislead into thinking about our most holy faith. 🤷

With all these cartoons, maybe I should post an appropriate scripture to help wake him up.

1st Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child.
Hi Church Militant,

Please help me understand your screen name. Do you think a better name for Church Militant would be Christ Militant? Who is the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ or His Church? Do you point people to Jesus Christ or to the Roman Catholic Church as their only hope in this sin cursed world?

Your friend,

Underdog

I believe the answer is found here:

The Ministry of Reconciliation

11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. 12 We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.

16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. [2] The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling [3] the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. - 2 Cor 5

underdog, you misunderstand what “church militant.” means. You assume that somehow the church is in conflict with Christ, that it is opposed to or detracts from Christ-centered faith. When in truth, the church is the instrument, the BODY of Christ…the pillar and bulwark of the truth (which is Christ.)

The church exists (as the body of Christ exists) in heaven, earth, and purgatory. The church triumphant, the church suffering, and the Church militant.

Did you read the link I posted one or two pages back? I assume not, if you still believe that Catholics do not believe “Christ is everything.”

Dear Ashley,

Thank you for all of your postings on this thread. I don’t want to make this a battle of links. Therefore, I will try not to post links or read them. I want to try to keep the focus on Jesus Christ and not stray to the many topics of theology. Please share your eternal hope with me. What do you think our primary purpose should be in this lifetime and the next as Christians?

In all sincerity,

The link was just to a post I had made on these forums, addressing your question in particular. It is my testimony of faith. If links are an issue, here is what I said, which also answers your question. I’m sorry if personal experience and witness is not satisfactory for you.

Now, tell me if you can read this, and still honestly believe Catholics do not place Christ at the center and as the focus of faith?

I posted this on another thread…but it really should have a thread of its own. I pose this question to all non catholics…to anyone who is not a part of the church, but professes to LOVE our savior!!! God bless you all!

Here is a question that has been on my heart… I will give a little background to help understand why I ask…

Before my conversion, I was a very strong “Bible alone” Christian. I loved Jesus with such an unquenchabel thirst! I studied my Bible and loved the Word of God. Everytime I could find an opportunity to share the Bible, to share my faith, to serve in church, to serve the community, I jumped on it! All because I wanted to grow closer to Christ! In school I would always carry my Bible on top of my books, to show that I held the Word of God above everything else. I poured over the scriptures, searching for new ways to know and understand my Lord.

I remember looking at Catholics, and wondering to myself “WHY do they have all that extra stuff?” Why do catholics pray to mary? Why do catholics practice all these unnecesary tradtions??? It’s not in the Bible! Don’t they know all they need is Jesus and the Bible? They are missing out on a TRUE relationship with Christ! I wish they could just see and know Him like I do!

I was THIRSTY for Christ! And it didnt’ seem to me that Catholics were thirsty for anything but unecesary rituals and prayers that SHOULD be directed to Jesus!

But here is what I didn’t see.

In the Catholic church, SEEKING Jesus isn’t about pouring over the scriptures or praying to grow closer to Him. These are all still VERY important things to do, and something that catholics who are serious about their faith WILL do… But seeking Jesus is much more simple than I ever realized.
I remember singing the song when I was protestant “This is the air I breathe.”

The words were: (and maybe you know it)

This is the air I breathe.
This is the air I breathe.
Your very presence.
Living, in me.

And I’m desperate for you.
And I’m hungry for you.
And I’m thirsty for you.
Jesus.

I thought being hungry for Jesus was about discovering Him in just the scriptures. I thought thirsting for Jesus was growing closer to Him in prayer.

But while all of these are good things…what Jesus REALLY asks of us, is that we simply come to Him. That we make ourselves little, like children and obediently, faithfully, lovingly, approach Him. He said in the Bible “this is my body, which will be given up for you.” And many of His disciples left him! Saying “Lord! This is a difficult teaching! Who can accept this?”

But he didn’t correct them, or take back what he said… He asked Peter if He too would leave. And it was PETER who said “Lord where would we turn? You have the words of eternal life.”

Why would it be a “hard teaching” to accept if Christ had not meant it literally? Why would some of his disciples leave him, if it was not truly radical to them? To eat the flesh and drink the blood of Christ? Cannibalism??? But our Lord did not correct them or take back His words.

Today, most Christian churches reject Christ, saying “this is a hard teaching, who can accept it?” because they refuse to be obedient to him as little children. They refuse to stay with him because they cannot accept a teaching they don’t understand. But PETER’s church…the church founded on the apostles who loved Him, have stayed with Chirst. Just as they stayed with Him when He first instituted the eucharist, so too does the church today. The Catholic church has stayed WITH CHRIST for 2000 years, even though others have left because they refused Him.

Let me ask you this… put aside what you believe about Catholics and the eucharist. Put aside whether or not you think it’s true. Imagine for one moment that it IS TRUE. Imagine, that it really IS CHRIST, as He said in the scriptures, who is THERE, present among us in the Catholic church! In every mass! If this was TRUE… wouldn’t you come RUNNING to Him? Wouldn’t you abandon everything you thought you knew, and embrace Him after “searching” and having a “prayerful personal relationship” with Him? Wouldn’t you come CRAWLING on your hands and knees because it’s JESUS!!! ?

Because either the Catholic church is right… That Christ truly did promise us that when we celebrate mass we eat of his flesh and drink of his blood, that “he who does not eat of my flesh or drink of my blood has NO LIFE within him”

or

Catholics really are guilty of the most dispicable, evil, and ignorant idolatry the world has ever known.

Isnt’ THAT worth getting to the heart of? Isn’t it worth searching for yourself? Isn’t that kind of REAL relationship with Jesus worth finding out the TRUTH about?

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your testimony and sharing your spiritual journey. I think I read that you may have implied that non-Catholic Christians are not part of the church. Please correct me if I

First, I find your cartoons childish, and insulting at best. Are you to be our "superhero" who saves us from the lie that is romanism? Are you the underdog, hero for us lost Catholics? And we are just blathering, ignorant fools, like the cartoon in your most recent post?
It’s hard to have any serious dialogue with someone who has already placed themselves in the position you have given yourself. Are you here as a brother in Christ, or do you have alterior motives?

None the less, I will humor your questions, even though you’ve disregarded my personal, heart felt, and sincere testimony as non-satisfactory. I don’t answer them to satisfy your desire to know my heart, but to profess my faith, and to “provide a defense to anyone who asks the reason for your hope.” As Paul urges us in scripture. What “underdog” views as the status of my soul and desire of my heart is inconsequential to God and to my relationship with Christ.
Code:
Our purpose is clearly presented by Christ Himself in scripture. We are to "love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our mind and all our strength." And "to love one another." This is the purpose of my life, and my walk with Christ. To love and serve Him, to follow His truth, and to love my neigbor.
Through continual self sacrifice, repentence, and faith working in love, Christ works from within us to transform our hearts that we may be made, once again, holy and pleasing to God:) That through Christ we may love Him and share in communion with Him.

As for “non catholic Christians” not being part of the church…this is a topic worthy of its own thread.
But to summarize, I was saying that non-catholic Christians may be separated from Christ’s true church, and yet still love Jesus with a great passion, and follow His truth as they know it. I believe, and the church teaches that non catholic Christians are in fact “separated” from the true Church.

This does not mean they are not in a mystical way still part of the Body of Christ… it means they are not in full communion with His church. Christ is truth, and that truth shall set you free. Protestants and non catholic Christians still hold a part of that truth (Jesus Christ!) in their hearts, and thus still hold a part of the Catholic Church. (Which is the body of Christ.) While they are separated from full communion, they are still connected to truth, through the One who IS truth incarnate:)

Dear Ashley,

You sure have read much more into my postings than what was intended. Have I sinned to exhalt Christ to His right place in our hearts as Christians? Why does it seem you are so overly sensitive with my emphasis, pointing to Christ as being supreme? What happens when you don’t love the Lord your God will all of your heart, soul, strenght, and mind… and love your neighbor as yourself? I think when we don’t do the impossible of the summary of the moral law, we sin and fall short of the glory of God. What happened to the good news of God? Are you pleasing to God right now, and why?

Hey Underdog,

Why would anyone take the time to answer your questions when you will not answer any of ours? Why would we take a cartoon character seriously? Why not click on any links? Could it be because you are not really interested enough to actually answer the question which started this post, your own question?

If you can’t run with the big dogs stay on the porch.
