I am confused why the Catholic Church is so important to Catholics when Christ is everything to the Christian. Jesus Christ is EVERYTHING!

(Matt 16: 18-19) I for my part declare to you, you are ‘Rock,’ and on this rock I will build my Church, and the jaws of death shall not prevail against it.

Underdog, apparently Jesus Christ loves his Catholic Church that he build over 2000 years ago for Jesus says “and the JAWS of Death WILL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST IT.”

Jesus Christ PROTECTS the Catholic Church that is why it still stands and STANDS STRONG.

Underdog, my question to you is why don’t you Love the Catholic Church like the Catholics and Jesus Christ who Love’s the Church.

Ephesians 5

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Do you see the church or the body of Christ to be exclusive, consisting of only members of the Roman Catholic Church? Please try to answer my question.

What is the definition of Catholic? I will answer for you the word Catholic means UNIVERSAL! The Church that Jesus Christ built is for EVERYONE. However many don’t accept it!

I understand that the church is catholic or universal. However, this forum site does not represent the catholic body of Christ. I believe all who are here at this Roman Catholic forum site are here because of divine providence. Why are you here? And do you believe the universal church goes beyond Roman Catholic Christians dear Christian brother? What I’m trying to understand, do you see the body of Christ consisting of more than Roman Catholic Christians? Please try to answer ths question. Being Roman Catholic does not make you more united to Christ than being a non-catholic Christian, does it?
 
As a Christian like yourself, it is my sincere intention to not misrepresent the Roman Catholic Faith. I do apologize when that happens. Even the most grounded Roman Catholic will misrepresent the official positions of the Catholic Church. It is my understanding that the Roman Catholic Christian is saved by grace, faith, and Christ. A Roman Catholic Christian is initially infused with justifying grace at baptism, and looses that status of justification upon mortal sin. God declares the Roman Catholic Christian just on the basis of being made righteous through the cooperation of man with God through the graces dispensed by the Catholic Church. How close is my understanding?

Not quite. We will always remain justified, otherwise we cannot repent. What we lose with mortal sin is salvation. Once we repent, we are restored into a state where, should we persevere, we will be saved.

Please help me understand the Catholic view of justification. I thought a Catholic who commits a mortal sin looses his initial status of justification; therefore the status of justification must be restored through the sacraments of what was lost. Please help me understand the difference of justification and salvation in your statement above? Is it correct to say that a final verdict of justication is declared when a person is made righteous by God through the cooperation of God and man? It almost seems you are saying that a Roman Catholic who is infused with justification at baptism cannot loose that status of justification, correct? Is there no repentance from commiting mortal sin?

Justification is a restoration of the relationship between God and Man. It is done at baptism. Man has no choice in the matter, it is done by Grace granted through Christ’s sacrafice.

Sanctification is remaining in the right relationship with God. THis requires grace given through prayer and the sacraments. It has a componant that man has no part in, but it primarily requires our cooperation with the Grace given to us by God.

If we are Justified, we must remain sanctified to be saved. Sanctification is lost by mortal sin. Justificiation, being able to reach out to God is never lost while we walk the earth. When we repent from Mortal sin, we are returned to a state of sanctity, and thus have our salvation restored.

No, a Calvinist beleives that once saved, always saved. They hold that you cannot choose CHrist or not. THey hold that God creates some to go to hell with no possible hope. You are either predestined for heaven or for hell and no matter what, there you will be.

Your response on that one post sounded like you are evolving into a Calvinist. If you are predestined to be one, so be it. I will still talk to you.
