It’s hard to believe that it’s almost Christmas once again. Which Mass will you be attending this year? I have to serve at the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Christmas Day; however, I may go to Midnight Mass as well tomorrow night because it’s such a beautiful Mass. Which mass will you be attending this year?
The Vigil, as always. And then try to stay up to watch Midnight Mass from St. Pat’s! 😃

830 am mass on Christmas day. My oldest daughter Reagan is Alter Serving at that mass:D

Driving 100 miles to visit my family on Christmas Day (as always!) and will be attending the 8:30 a.m. Mass at Wm. Beaumont Army Medical Center chapel where my son has been an altar boy for the last six years. We do this every year, which means getting up at 4:30 on Christmas morning for our own little Christmas and then leaving by 6 to get to Mass on time! We spend Christmas Eve with DH’s family, so the vigil Mass is out… Father celebrates “midnight” Mass at 5 p.m. because, he says, “It’s midnight in the Holy Land!”

I am on call day shift AND night shift tomorrow, so either 4pm at my parish or 5pm at the local Dominican parish. Then dinner out with DH and home to get some rest before night call.😦

Family mass today at 1 pm, english mass tomorrow (25th) at 4pm and High mass on 26th (11am) and most probably daily masses the week after.

🙂

SInce I am in charge of the Family Mass I will be at the 4:00 Mass. Then I have to be at the start of the 5:30. If I still can walk (I will be at work from 8 AM till 6PM - then go home and have dinner with the family) later in the evening I will drive back to work for the Midnight. But the past two years I have passed out before 11:00. Besides it’s a 1/2 drive back to work and I would not get back home till almost 2AM. Saturday I will probably go to the latest mass at my home parish (where I very rarely attend) since my pastor generously gives me off on Christmas since I am there all of Christmas Eve and I have all the Christmas liturgies pretty much well prepared.

The Midnight Mass is just too late for us, so we’ll be going to the 11 am mass Christmas day. Plus the whole band is there for that mass and the music is just wonderful. On top of the spirit of the season, the colours, the food, etc. having wonderful music at mass is that something extra that makes it all better.

This evening (Christmas Eve), Mass at 6.30pm in my own parish I’m not sure whether it will be the Vigil Mass or use the formulas for “Midnight Mass”). Thrn tomorrow morning, Mass in the EF at 9am (probably the Dawn Mass).

8 pm Christmas Eve, Midnight Mass at midnight, 8 am Christmas day. I’m altar serving at all three

Midnight Mass! Wouldn’t miss it for the world. I’m the scheduled lector - that Isaiah reading brings tears to my eyes - but I’d be going anyway. It’s genuinely at midnight, with the choir singing carols starting at 11:30.

I also went to the 4 pm child-focused Vigil last year - really crowded and, well, didn’t especially want to go back to that one. I’d love to to go the 10 am Mass of the Day as well, but family obligations make that difficult.

Aw, change of plans. Will be going to 10am Divine Liturgy on Christmas Day.

First Christmas that I am attending a Byzantine parish, so I’ll be going to 10pm Great Compline followed by Divine Liturgy.
More Latinization Constantine. Traditionally Pascha is the one time out of the year that Liturgy is said at midnight. Christmas Liturgy at midnight is another way we Eastern Christians have aped the Latins.

Properly tonight one should celebrate Great Compline together with Mattins of Christmas and the first hour, with Divine Liturgy served in the morning.

So don’t go at all?

It is what it is. I see it as inculturation into the North American culture where we are now. I’m aware of what the traditional practices are. They’re doing what they can to respond to the people. Its already a big issue that we’re bleeding parishioners into RC parishes because of Catholic schools. Sometimes you just have to adapt. That is how it was in the East in the past, right? I could attend tonight’s Liturgy after Great Compline but its mostly Ukrainian.

No Constantine the East has been very reluctant to change. Adding more Latinizations when the church is telling us to be more and more faithful to our own traditions is NOT a good thing. Maybe if our Hierarchy were really faithful to our traditions and held them with the respect they deserve the people would see the value of NOT going to the Latins. But unfortunately its much easier to just dumb things down, and throw our traditions and Liturgical customs out the window to look more catholic or because thats what people want. If thats what people want LET THEM GO! There is nothing wrong with a smaller church that is true to it’s own Liturgical Patrimony.

ciero, let me be candid about this. This situation we are in has been determined by our Bishop as the best way to cater to the Ukrainians in our area. They are here because of them. There have been efforts to restore traditional practices but the people doesn’t respond to it. These “Latinizations” are not forced by the Latin Church on the Eparchy. While the practices within the Eparchy are admittedly Latinized, you can’t just pull the rug from underneath everyone and force them into a different practice.

Anyway, lets not derail this thread. Fact is, we have Christmas Day Divine Liturgy tomorrow at 10am, and thats where I’ll be.

MIDNIGHT MASS!!! (at our local OF parish) Its just too far to drive to Seattle for an EF midnight Mass and then drive home again (safely).

Our OF parish is really doing the midnight Mass with many of the old traditions. The priest is singing the Mass, there will be at least 5 servers, ordinaries will be in latin. Hymns will be in latin.

Prior to Mass there will be singing of carols.

Brick by brick.
