c****hurch’s sex abuse review finds 5 Philadelphia priests ‘not suitable for ministry’…sad

Five priests have been deemed “not suitable for ministry,” the Catholic Church of Philadelphia announced Friday, in its first action since it suspended 26 priests after a January 2011 grand jury report detailed dozens of cases of sexual abuse by clergy.

The secular media based on the number of comments, is having a field day on this. Will this ever end?

Ummm - that’s not the media, it is ordinary people reacting to news.

“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see Cardinals opposing Cardinals, Bishops against other Bishops”

The above quote from the article does say it all. The gates of hell may not prevail against Christ and His Church, but they’re sure going to have a good effort - with casualties.

We know, of course, that Catholic priests are less likely to be abusive than your average married man. But since the media is, by and large, run by non & anti catholics, any church-based abuse panders to whatever agenda media-owners have!

We have to admit that the administration of the Church has been very poor in certain areas at certain times. The task now is to express compassion for victims, and ensure it can’t happen again, especially in growth areas such as Africa.

However, at the risk of sounding preachy, I have to say that we, as individual catholic, must make the better effort through prayer & good works to show the better - the true - side of our religion. And we live in the certain hope of the triumph of Christ.

Yes it will end.

Be of good cheer.
The Church will come out stronger and more faithful than before for undergoing this trial.

As for the comments etc…It will be as the Sower and the seed…Those who are “stony ground” (hard of heart) have no root and those who are filled with thorns and weeds are easily distracted…
Those who persevere, who pray for the Church and for the completion of this trial, will find solace - Will find strength - and will see a new flowering of God’s Holy Church in a new generation of pious and holy priests.

Praise God

Not too helpful. It actually states it contains anti-catholic hypothesis on the site, and is written by non-catholics.
I did some investigating, the site is supported by 3 Catholic Churches and is edited by 2 Catholic parishioners who have PH. D’s in Theology, who host the number 1 Catholic Radio show in NY.

Very interesting, I found more on this on the following site:

No, not necessarily. This crisis has been going on in the church for DECADES.
it just gives more ammunition to non catholics and catholics alike that think (erroneously)
that all priests are abusers and the church keeps covering it up (which is true in some cases)
This abuse **** needs to be dealt with on a larger level. CLEAN HOUSE!

Oh Ye of Little faith - Why do you worry about such things. Do you think that “decades” matter in the course of such things? The Church is 2000 years old. She has dealt with scandal, heresy and corruption that went on for much more than “decades” at a time.
Yet each went away. This will too.

Read and ponder the rest of my post.
Those who seek “ammunition” already have the gun. That is to say, they have already made up their minds about the Church. If they did not find their ammunition in the sex abuse scandal they would find it elsewhere - like the Church’s teaching on homosexuality or birth control or abortion or … Sunday mass obligation…It’s all ammunition to person who is predisposed to shoot.

Patience dear one.
Of course we all want these things taken care of yesterday if not sooner…But moving too quickly can have unforeseen repercussions. While it is most certainly true that some in the the Church have acted inappropriately in dealing with this issue, moving too quickly could have serious and unforeseen repercussions.

Trust in the Lord. Live in Love. Give witness to the Kingdom. you will disarm those who try to fire their ammunition at you.

I found your post quite condescending. And yes, the DECADES matter.
heck, it might be a lot more than decades…centuries. The church never gets away from this
scandal. It is always mentioned. Mostly by non catholics and the media.

people still bring up the crusades and the inquisition, so why would they put to rest the priest sex abuse scandals? these scandals were a betrayal by priests against the vulnerable. these priests were predators and it was allowed to go on for so many years. i am sure much longer than the past 50 years. yes, these scandals have hurt the Church and the way people see the Catholic Church and will continue to do so.

I think it is very different this time, like the Akita prophesy posted by Philial (post 5) foretold, the Catholic Church has been infested with a cancer from within, of the likes we never experienced before. We have traitors from within like Sister Carol Keehan who traded the life of poor innocent babies for a pen from Obama. Like Notre Dame University that honored the most pro-abortion President in American history and vigorously persecuted Pro-Lifers praying the Rosary on campus for two years. Like Mount Saint Vincent’s Catholic University allowing a liberal professor to teach a sexology course referring to a naked pornographic picture of the Virgin Mary, entitled “The Liberation of Mary”. The complete toleration of pro-abortion Catholics such as Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi. A Bishop in Rochester NY who has gay and lesbian Masses and is pushing the Vatican to ordain a lesbian nun to be the first woman priest. The Catholic Church may have to hit rock bottom like an alcoholic, before it finally takes action, and surgically removes this infestation.

My apologies. I did not mean to offend.

Yes it might be many more decades - but it will pass.
Yes it is “always mentioned” and indeed, mostly by non-Catholics just as you say.

But then again - as “7 sorrows” mentions - people continue to bring up the inquisition and the crusades. To this we could add the “Borgia Popes”, the Avignon period when there were as many as “Three Popes” - and many other “less than stellar” periods in Church history. Yet each one has passed and The Church remains. The gates of hell have not prevailed nor will they now.

As I said in my earlier post…

…people continue to bring up the inquisition and the crusades.
There is a world of difference, the inquisition and crusades were completely taken out of true context:

The pedophile priest scandal happened because of a handful of priests who had no idea what it is to be a Priest, and because of some Bishops who should have acted like Jesus did in the Temple when He made a whip out of cords.

Indeed we have not experienced such problems as these in our living memory - or even perhaps in the last several hundred years…But in the long history of the Church there have indeed been troubles equaling and even exceeding those of today. I am no historian and so others can probably address these matters better than I but I do know that St Francis worked against the problem of many unholy priests - priests living in openly sexual relationships. St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross were dealing with widespread corruption within the Carmelites. They both suffered great opposition and persecution when they tried to reform the orders.
At the time that the Arian heresy was brought to council I understand that something like 2/3 of the Bishops favored the position of Arius.
And most certainly the conditions in the Church were not good when the Protestant reformation sprang up.

The Church will survive.

But none of this equals the murdering of tens of millions innocent babies being supported and condoned by Catholics. There are 67 million Catholics in the USA, an American President needs 51 million votes to be elected. That means that traitor Catholics are to blame.

The website I was criticized for citing in post 4 explains how the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) funneled 280 million dollars of our collection basket contributions to organizations fighting for abortion and gay marriage (via the Catholic Campaign for Human Developement CCHD). The evidence is detailed by the world’s leading Pro-Life websites:

I agree that the Church will survive, the the damage is devastating.

More than a handful.

So what is your solution then, for the church? The damage is done - so to speak, we can either live our faith as an example to others and assist the catholic church - or do what what exactly?

The church IS cleaning house, it is silencing dissident priests, nuns and has put in place child protection procedures, second to none, to ensure this sort of ‘filth’ never occurs again.

Decades ago, the world was a different place, child sex abuse was unheard of in the media - but it was still going on and has been since time began. Children were seen and not heard or believed, the adult was innocent until proven guilty - and I am talking about the secular world’s treatment of child abuse, not the CC in this instance.

Yes, the scandal will be thrown up at the church for years, by non and anti-catholics, however as another poster pointed out there is always something to get their teeth into whether it will be the church’s stance on; condom use in Africa, contraceptives, abortion, same sex marriage and so on.

Sexual Abuse is a problem for society.
There were 650000 cases reported in the US last year there are thousands of register sex offendenders currenttily living in AZ. I don’t think it. will ever really go away.To say its a Catholic problem or its owned by any segment of society only serves as cover for abusers. Recognize it forwhat it is edudcate the children and people and we canreduce it .In the John Jay report I believe in a 50 year period there were 1500 Catholic priests accused. Of that 51% of them had one complaint. So it only takes a very small number of serial abusers to do so much damage
I think the Bishops were ignorant not of the crimes but how to handle them. Hasn’t this been the norm for society
Look a Penn State or for that matter mothers who turn a blind eye when there daughters are being abused.
I ’ m not condemning anyone but this denial is what the abusers depends on.
We as Catholics can’t change the past but do have some control of the future.I recommend everyone read the original report.
PS. Didn’t t the report say 3 priests were cleared. I guessfalseaccusations aren’t worth commenting on.
