From the Independent Catholic News:
Three ‘traditional rite’] Church of Ireland parishes have asked to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church The Irish Catholic newspaper reports this week.

The Irish Catholic newspaper, has learnt that the members of these parishes, along with traditional Anglicans from twelve other countries, have signed a letter to the Vatican seeking “full, corporate, sacramental union” with the Catholic Church under the authority of the Pope. The dramatic move would see the entire parish communities received in to the Catholic Church.

The traditional rite of the Church of Ireland emerged in 1991 after the House of Bishops of the Church of Ireland decided to start ordaining women. Traditionalist Anglicans decried the move as a “defiance of both Scripture and Tradition.”

This is wonderful news, but I want to point out that it’s not the “Church of Ireland” but rather three Church of Ireland parishes.

Still, this is great news and much to be thankful for.👍

The Church of Ireland - Traditional Rite (angelfire.com/biz3/staidans/) is part of the Traditional Anglican Communion. The entire Traditional Anglican Communion (400,000 members worldwide) is asking to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church.

I find this good news, but 400,000 Anglicans agreed to this?

I find it a bit hard to believe. Why do they need Rome’s “permission” to convert into Catholics?

I thought any individual can become a Catholic without the permission of the Church:confused:

We don’t know the details of what they are asking for. It seems they want to come in as whole parishes possibly with a new Rite . Time will tell. Pray for the situation.

400,000 - there are around 90 million Anglicans in the world - that is less than one half of one percent of them not embracing secularism and gay marriage and other things. It is a sad testament to the collapse of Chrsitianity.

They want to retain their traditions including married priests and bishops.

Yes but the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Little by little they will start seeing Truth…

Then no way, of course whichever priests and bishops are currently married should remain married.

But I hope the Vatican does not allow the tradition of married priests and bishops in whichever rite of Catholicism.

NOOO, it’s easy to see things going wrong. Let them form their own new religion without bringing a collapse to Catholicism.

Perhaps this is a sign of things to come - that as other denominations collapse because they lack the teaching authority of the Catholic Church, the faithful among them begin to come back to the true Church. It may display how bad things are, but it may also provide hope for a better future.

The Gospel According to St. Matthew 18:11-13 said:
11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12 What think you? If a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them should go astray: doth he not leave the ninety-nine in the mountains, and go to seek that which is gone astray? 13 And if it so be that he find it: Amen I say to you, he rejoiceth more for that, than for the ninety-nine that went not astray.

So let us also rejoice when even one comes home.

You realize it is already permitted in the Eastern rite Catholic churches for priests don’t you?

Of course Bishops should be celibate as that is a very long held discipline

So does this mean they want to be accepted en masse without having to go thru RCIA? Or without their priests receiving additional training?

Only problem is the Catholic Church is in collpase too. Especially in Western Europe and South/Central America. And North America too.

Except we have the promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church.

Elements within the Church are certainly in collapse, but imagine what it would be like if our teachings themselves were viewed by the magisterium as optional as many denominations seem to believe.

The Church’ s teachings remain the same, unpolluted by modern values. That is hardly a state of collapse. The corruption of individuals comes and goes, but infallible doctrine remains.

The Church is at war with heresy and secularism. It always has been. Simply because recent battles have caused damage does not mean that we have lost. When things are darkest, we must fight with all the more determination.

Consider this also: What is a decade or two decades in the history of a Church which has existed for nearly two thousand years? If there is struggle now, then it certainly does not mean that there will not be triumph in years to come.
