ET being no, .1 at the boxoffice, in context of the post, was not about American Catholicism which was not the topic of the post, as you know. The topic of the post was how JPII’s attitude toward the American Catholic church could be placed in historical context in terms of his background. And now I’m done.
Well my goodness. I thought you might at least want to post a link backing up your position regarding JPII’s attitude toward the American Catholic Church.

And I would have thought a “moderator/admin” would know how to post a link.

You asked for my opinion. My opinion I provided. So, you said I should read about what’s going on in Cleveland, yet, still, as far as any of us know there is nothing much going on there. Do you have anything at all that anyone can read to substantiate your claim which was not presented as opinion? You did say it was “dangerous” iirc.

MODERATOR NOTICE

This thread is wandering. Please return to the topic in the original post

Julie…agreed but I think you should read what is happening in Cleveland. It is radical and dangerous to the Church.

I would love to provide links but am terrible at doing it…Sorry
Julia Mae,

Please note. The above was not posted by me, but by Tess. Apparently you are confusing me with her. Please direct your comments to the proper person who actually addressed you.

Thank you.

I have gone back and read some of the past articles concerning the Cleveleand issue. Most that find fault with the heirarchy are blaming the traditions of the faith…“old practices” as some have referred to them. I wonder if we have ever thought what this faith would be without the traditions and rituals that have kept us bonded together?

The women of this faith have to come to grips and appreciate our roles as “women of this Church” or have we evolved so that we no longer see our role as being just as relavant as the priest. The society has moved far from the concept of WE to ME…Is it worth the price we will pay? I wonder?

Please go back and carefully read post #39 in this thread.
You are confusing me with Tess15010.
I didn’t post what you claim.

It should be noted Fr. Doug Koesel is (inaccurately) voicing his personal opinion on the matter. The only official authority to speak on this controversy is that of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith: “The Roman Pontiff fulfills his universal mission with the help of the various bodies of the Roman Curia and in particular with that of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in matters of doctrine and morals. Consequently, the documents issued by this Congregation expressly approved by the Pope participate in the ordinary magisterium of the successor of Peter” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’s Instruction [of 24 May 1990] on the Ecclesial Vocation of the Theologian Donum Veritatis, n. 18).

So, it looks like the ol’ Call to Action types are still scurrying about in the dark. Hopefully, some combination of the Holy Spirit and next-generation anti-psychotic drugs will bring them around.

In the meantime, we should remember that we cannot serve Jesus while rejecting his Church.

It’s a website, and has been around for a while as an online news magazine. You know, if you hate the story that’s one thing, but as long as the letter was written by the person who it is reported to have written it, then attacking the publication is a red herring.
I have to agree with everyone else, the Huffington Post is NOT an unbiased newspaper or even online journal. I’m a college student and my professors never allow us to use anything from the Huffington Post because of it’s bias. It’s like using the National Enquirer as a source. And this is coming from extremely liberal professors!

Let’s see, now.
  1. The priestly sex scandal seems to go on and on, with new accusations regularly.
  2. The Pope’s butler releases a torrent of personal communications by the Vatican.
  3. There seems to be more and more evidence of financial shananagans within the top leadership of the Church.
  4. Plus various examples of power politics pitting one against another.
  5. The Bishops have targeted the Obama Administration big time, provoking particular concern and anger among many life-long Catholic Democrats and various healthcare people.
  6. Now the Girl Scouts of America seems to have become a target.
  7. The Donald Trump of American Catholicism, Bill Donohue, is expressing his views very ludly on TV.
  8. And, on top of all this, the blessed nuns seem to be under assault.

One had to wonder if certain leaders within the Church think we’re in medieval Europe when the Church’s word was law rather than here in the multi-religious USA.

When I read those ad hominem attacks the expression “brood of vipers” comes to mind. When I read this kind of threads I sadly realize that Leo XIII was quite right by being concerned with the heresy of Americanism.
