Climate Change- myth or reality?

Munda cor meum:
I think I understand your reasoning, but what I do not understand is the crisis. You say, I think, that we are unsure if Global Warming exists, but by the time we are sure, it will be too late to do anything about it.

What you have not explained, is why global warming is bad. Granted, a significant and sudden climate change could be catastrophic, but that does not seem to be happening here.

Is there no “good side” to global warming?
Something like 85% of the entire worlds population live in the coastal regions. If the sea temperature rises by only 2 degrees centigrade (quite likely in the next 20 plus years) vast areas of the Indian sub continent, the East Coast of the States, a lot of Europe (including where I live) and most small islands in the Pacific will be under water. The coastal map of the world will be unregognisable. Oh, and most of the Cities around the Great Lakes will be inundated.

The damage will not only be to human life but also the economic fallout will be enormous. Just imagine the insurance claims alone when New York is sunk. No economy, even the States could carry that sort of burden and the worlds economy would probably crash making the depression look like a Sunday picnic.

Now this is not a prediction for the future, all I am saying is IF global warming is true this is a likely scenario.

Other “Good” things, well how about malaria in Central USA. A 2 degree rise in temperature would be ideal for the mosquito that carries malaria to breed and spread the disease. Probably the same in Europe.

Everyone, scientists and others accept the periodic temperature variations of the earth, the only difference we have from now to other changes is the speed!!! This is a lot faster than any other geoligically isolated temperature rise in the past and the speed can only be put down to the activity of man.

Really? How far back does your data go?

I just checked the thermometer in my back yard and it is -2. I want my share of the global warming and I want it today. 😃

Earth may be getting warmer. There have been several ice ages already, and solar cycles in the ranges of 11, 22, and possibly over a hundred years, and a very hot planetary core leads me to think it may be natural. Not that science is ever premature, or newspapres ever slant the truth.😉

if there really is global warming going on maybe it explains why so many posters on this forum are in serious need of a chill pill

Good one! :clapping:

geologically? about 250,000,000 years.
Sorry, friend. Geologically doesn’t cut it. While we can assess cooling and warming periods geologically, there is no way the data is precise enough to tell if the current warming is going faster than 100,000 years ago. Even if we had 1000 years of data, 1000 years is a brief period of time geologically.

Regardless, we better be careful, or the strict, 7-day creation theorists will come after us 😉 .

God Bless,

Robert.

Geologically speaking we can, and do. The earths warming and cooling can be accurately estimated to probably less than 100 year blocks by studying the change of types of zooplankton, mainly mesoplankton and microplankton along with other invertabrates within limestones and limestone derivatives. Changes of temperature within certain geological strata result in changes of species. The same technique is used in the antarctic with core samples dating back a few million years, they are accurate to the year.

You’ve analyzed 2.5 Million blocks of data? You have far too much time on your hands 😃 .

I stand corrected by you again. Twice in one day! I’m still on the fence regarding global warming, so I will research some more when I have time. I’m not on the fence, however, regarding Kyoto. It is poorly written. Perhaps some more sensible/fair agreements can be reached.

Personally? No, would that I had the time. Much of the work has been carried out at Oxford and Cambridge universities, along with a great deal of the development work being done in the States, good solid science as well!!!

It is a fact, however, it is greatly misunderstood. Personally I think all the debate is a diversion to make us argue among ourselves about it. That way we are diverted from the real issues.

Meanwhile real pollution enters our air, our water, our food… you get the picture.
You pretty much proved my point.

Wow. Too bad we don’t have a “patting myself on the back” smiley…😃

Anyway, I agree with you and also advocate quite a lot of green practices. Just because I’m not convinced of the science, it doesn’t keep me from trying to be a good steward.

God Bless,

Robert.
