WASHINGTON – A senior adviser to Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign who was accused of repeatedly sexually harassing a young subordinate was kept on the campaign at Mrs. Clinton’s request, according to four people familiar with what took place.
.
Mrs. Clinton’s campaign manager at the time recommended that she fire the adviser, Burns Strider.
.
But Clinton did not. Instead, Strider was docked several weeks’ pay and ordered to undergo counseling, and the young woman was moved to a new job.
.
Mr. Strider, who was Clinton’s faith adviser, a co-founder of the American Values Network, and sent the candidate Scripture readings every morning for months during the campaign, was hired five years later to lead an independent group that supported Clinton’s 2016 candidacy, Correct the Record . . . .
He was fired after several months for workplace issues, including allegations that he harassed a female aide, according to three people close to Correct the Record’s management.
“Lobbyists appear not to have gotten the memo about draining the swamp,” said Sheila Krumholz, the center’s executive director, referring to Trump’s often-repeated campaign pledge to clean up Washington and rein in lobbyists.
A sexual harassment report was made to campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle. Doyle reportedly approached Clinton and asked that Strider be fired. Clinton declined to do so, and Strider remained on staff.
.
Strider, who was married at the time, instead was docked several weeks of pay and was ordered to undergo counseling, per the Times.
.
The young woman, who reportedly signed a nondisclosure agreement that prevents her from publicly speaking about the campaign’s inner workings, was moved to a new job. . . .
Thanks for a thoughtful post.If the guy was docked several weeks pay, the issue wasn’t ignored. The story gives no perspective on what “harassed” meant; sometimes it’s criminal and sometimes it’s just being annoying. Not every incident should result in someone getting fired. Also, it doesn’t need to be made public. It’s important that the woman wasn’t demoted or penalized for bringing this out. So without more details I can’t say it was handled incorrectly at that time. Today there would be much less leeway in responding.
. . . Mr. Strider never attended the mandated counceling, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation. . . .

.The woman who made the accusation against Mr. Strider in 2008 has not spoken publicly about it. She, like most campaign staffers, signed a nondisclosure agreement that barred employees from publicly discussing internal dynamics on the campaign . . .
I called her today to tell her how proud I am of her and to make sure she knows what all women should: we deserve to be heard.
.. . . Late last year Clinton tried to capitalize on the “women’s issue” of sexual harassment by denouncing Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, despite her long history of being closely associated with him over the last twenty years.
.“I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein,” Clinton said in an October statement. “The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. . . .
