Ok, then why did Luther and the other reformers hold to the BVM’s perpetual virginity, if not on the writings of the ECF’s?

And y’all stop picking on me about my oral tradition remark! 😦
Haha…I was talking about Calvin, ahem.

Luther held to her perpetual virginity, I know. Calvin, I think, held more to it simply because he didn’t want to argue about it and thought it a waste of time to discuss.

The only oral tradition I like is beer.

Luther held to her perpetual virginity, I know.
But why? It isn’t clearly defined in scripture. And he wasn’t inclined to hold to Catholic teachings without evidence. The only evidence I can think of is the ECF’s.

Wimp. 😃

I’ll drink to that.

I can’t think of any either. Which goes to show we should agree with the fathers when they agree with scripture.

I’ll drink to that.
If you have some lint in your pocket I’ll drink to that, too.

By the way, this is completely off topic…but I was reading a blog article today about a Baptist, who became Catholic, went on the Journey Home, and now he’s Protestant again.

Do people really have that many conversions?

Are we about to “witness” a “Lutheran” fight???😛
I’ll drink to that.
But it looks like y’all know how to make up and be friends again…😛 😃

No, he was calling Calvin a wimp. Even when Lutherans fight about perpetual virginity, we can both insult Calvin.

haha…the symbol of unity

Here’s another confessional statement on intercession:

The Smalcald Articles
Thanks… Seems his tone was a little wound up. Did he write those articles much later in life?

This might sound a little “goofy”, but it seems to me…that if it weren’t for some of Luther’s writings… you all would be pretty Catholic… I mean considering many of the other positions of the Lutheran faith…not that I am an expert on it.

Not tonight. I already had to drink three bloody Mary’s earlier on this thread for pennance.

Maybe he just wanted to get on the show.

I believe so. Mid 1530s I think. They were written for a proposed ecumenical council at Mantua that never happened. Of course, the Catholics got sneaky, waited till he died, moved it to Trent, and didn’t invite any Protestants 😛

OK, I got it now…

Its a wonderful thing… or its all wonderful… 😃

Are we supposed to have this much fun here? I know I’ve been getting a lot of chuckles today!?!

Oh, those wascally papists… 😛 😃 😃 Almost sounds like a conspiracy, err…I mean someone had a plan… or would that just be a “whooops”?

Whoops, like the hierarchy ever says whoops. More like “Muhahaha, domination is within our grasp, wouldn’t you say, my faithful Igor”

Me too. Shh! Don’t let the posters who always have their knickers in a snit (Catholic and Non) know.

Well, if all it took was common sense…the attacks on Mary and her virtues is dangerous living at best…if a man is within earshot of an attack on his mother, he reacts in a way that may cause real harm to the persons disrespecting his mom. It is human nature. Now, how do you suppose God feels about the attacks on His Mother? Ummmmmmmmmmmm…that’s just a little too much to answer for especially when you expect that same Man to Save you! Yet He did die for all…God is patient and merciful, but I wouldn’t want to face Him with a long list of complaints about His Mother on my soul when I die. Pray for our seprated brothers and sisters who mess with God’s Momma!

Peace,

Gail

P.S. Who said common sense had anything to do with someone’s theology anyway? Read the Mormon stuff and you might just see what I mean!!!

… Would it have been such a despicable thing for Mary to have conceived and given birth to a child of Joseph?

marietta
It depends on why Joseph wanted to separate from Mary in the first place.

I still don’t understand; What did he think would be Mary’s shame? I mean, why did he feel he had to separate from Mary?
If you were a faithful Jew in the first century, you didn’t marry a woman who was pregnant with a baby that isn’t yours.

If he had made noise about a potential divorce it would bring it to people’s attention that she was pregnant with someone elses child.
