Who’s more extraordinary? More accomplished? More faithful? And the overall deserving of greater honor? Who sacrificed the most for God?
  1. Mary or Abraham?
  2. Mary or Sarah?
  3. Mary or Moses?
  4. Mary or Ruth?
  5. Mary or David?
  6. Mary or Solomon?
  7. Mary or Peter?
  8. Mary or Stephen the martyr?
  9. Mary or Paul?
IMO, Mary beats Sarah, David & Solomon. She’s of the same rank as Ruth & Peter. She loses to Paul. And she loses to Abraham & Moses BIG TIME!

(and hey, how come there are no honorary statues of Abraham & Moses in Catholic establishments? Cant these folks offer prayers/ intercede for catholics too? 🤷 )

Its not a competition.

Anyway, Mary is the only one on your list that was free from sin.

She also gave birth to the Son of God if you don’t mind.

St. Peter was the first Pope of the largest church ever and was entrusted witht the keys to the kingdom.

St. Paul will go down in history as one of the greatest preachers of all time, and probably the most influential Christian besides Jesus.

All of your examples would not be so if not for Mary. Abraham, Moses, and the Prophets foretold the coming of the Messiah. Peter and Paul preached the Good News that Christ gave us. Without Mary, there is no Christ. No Christ means no coming of the Messiah and no preaching the Good News. Mary trumps all.

The patron saints of churches seem to always be New Testament saints, don’t they. I think its because they have actually been canonised by the Church. They are not “lesser” saints or anything like that.

Anyway, you don’t need to have statues to ask for their prayers.

Wow Mary got an edge from the very start, so who sacrificed the most for God? In the eyes of a fair judge, Mary’s edge would remove some points. But those with flaws from the beginning and yet gave a truckload, these would deserve greater honors. Hmmm…Abraham would emerge the greatest. He had no edge. He had no powers like Moses and no perfection like Mary and yet he was willing to kill his own son for God. Err, or maybe he wasnt that much of a dad. 😃 Hmmm…that would be stephen then. He gave the highest sacrfice…his service and his own life. 👍

Now that’s an interesting conclusion to come to.
Did an ArchAngel ever label anyone but Mary as blessed?
Did any of the others give birth to God as man?
Did any of the others carry salvation in their womb for nine monthes?
Are any of the other the Mother of God?
Are there any others spoken of in scripture who who’s failings were not brought to light?
Was there anyone who demonstrated more servitude and faith?
Our Mother wins the test.
And this coming from a man the Roman considers a Protestant. Go figure. Mary Mother of God is not a Bible superstar. She was a meek woman willing to be the handmaiden of the Lord. Knowing the love and respect God placed in my heart for my mother, I have a good feeling how Christ would answer that quiz. 👍

God in all his glory spoke directly to Abraham. Thats quite a personal touch, wouldnt you say?
Did any of the others give birth to God as man?
Well both Joseph, Mary and Jesus were decended from Abraham.
Did any of the others carry salvation in their womb for nine monthes?
Every mother did.
Are any of the other the Mother of God?
the scriptures make no mention of such title.
Was there anyone who demonstrated more servitude and faith?
Abraham wins here by a long shot. Assuming that he was a normal dad who dearly loved his own son. Faith & Servitude.
Mary Mother of God is not a Bible superstar.
Catholics dress her up as such. If Abraham can see you from heaven right now he would be screaming “ITS NOT FAIR!!!”

What do you mean?
Oh what I meant was ‘every mother up on Jesus’ ancestral line’.

Mary did not really do anything extraordinary. Rather, everything was served to her on a silver platter. Born without original sin, therefore free from the everyday temptations that torments us all…which also means that she had no cravings for wealth & sexual desire. She was designed as a tool from the very beginning. And not someone who earned their way to the top…like the other bible superstars.

what is your problem with Mary? Don’t you all get it? without Mary we would NOT have Jesus. She was pre-chossen, born without originial sin but had, just as Eve before her, with free will to say yes or no. As to whether there would have been “another Mary” to give birth to Our Saviour only God knows. (if she said no) But we don’t have to even worry about that because Mary helped to bring Jesus into this world.

Yes, that’s a good point. Even though she was born without original sin, she had free will and faced the temptations you and I face.

Agnostheist, she freely chose to become the Mother of Jesus. She gave her consent. She was ready, prepared, to become the mother of the Saviour.

Mary is also called the new Eve. Eve also born without original sin but had free will…the rest is history;)
Many, many years later, a little girl named Mary is born without original sin and given free will. Unlike Eve, though Mary choosed to obey God and help to reopen the gates of Heaven by giving birth to Our Saviour.

Thats really no big deal. With or without original sin, what woman out there would decline such an honor? Heck I’m a guy but if an archangel of God approached me with such an offer, i’d say YES! YES! YES! A pregnant man, who cares! har har har 👍

I don’t think God wants us to compare people this way. I think he wants us to view each person for who they are individually. After all, God loves everyone equally. And I think that goes for Mary and the Saints as well. 😃 We should honor each one differently and NOT be concerned with whom to honor more.

And why is it that only the new testament characters get the superstar treatment from the catholic church? tis not fair, i tell you. 😃

Well God had Eve tempted shortly after she was born (in fact she was so young that hadnt discovered sex yet!). At such a young age she had to deal with the ultra persuasive serpent. Its a no brainer, with or without original sin she was destined to be decieved.

Aggie’s just being Aggie here. Some agnostics find it easier to live in the hypothetical world. 😛 There is neither truth nor lie there, just shades of gray. Which, according to Fr. Corapi, is the evil one’s favorite color.

Christ’s peace.
