In all seriousness, what’s immodest in a male’s apparel?
This is probably more applicable to younger people, because of social media.

Male immodesty is often seen with men posting shirtless pictures, them in gyms (basically showing off muscles) and their fancy cars, alcohol etc. You even have men showing the size of their…appendage through their pants.

Usually middle aged Catholics or those who aren’t on the Internet often tend to not see it, but this is actually pretty common with people my age.

If we are going to define immodesty very liberally, many women would say well fitted shirts and suits are a stumbling block…but of course that’s just unrealistic to expect men to hide their body. Just like how it’s unrealistic to claim pencil skirts and form fitting attire is immodest on women, imo.

And if not another blasted modesty thread, it’s the extremely juvenile “my Mass is better than your Mass, so I’ll just make some denigrating comments about yours to try and make mine look better”, which is the current trend on a couple of active threads.
Don’t forget all the can-you-guys-help-me-is-this-a-sin threads! 😫

In my culture, showing one’s shoulders (for guys too!) is considered not modest I always like to cover my shoulders because I feel uncomfortable and want to respect the elders.

This really depends on the culture of your country. In my country, it is considered modest if you cover your shoulders and half way on legs. But some girls nowadays go beyond that.

Now I know that ads are what pays for these TV shows, so did I commit a sin by changing channel and not watching the ad, especially when the turtle terrarium company was offering a special of two for one if I paid a separate handling fee?
several years ago, the head of one of the industry agencies claimed the the “contract” was that we’d watch the commercials in return for the program, and thus recording and fast forwarding was stealing.

Asked about going to the bathroom during a commercial, the response was, “they should plan better” . . .

I would also say that most women don’t have the toned bellies that are sexy to men. Unless you have the hourglass figure and are slender, bikinis don’t make women look much sexier. Often less so, because they aren’t covering their bodily imperfections as much. I’d say more women wear them because it’s fashionable, comfortable, gives you less weird tan lines, and there is a much wider selection In stores of bikinis. Many of the one pieces or tankinis are made for moms and old people. A young person would find that distasteful

Speedos are immodest on men.
They are also unflattering.

As a man, I will day that your statements here are partly correct and partly incorrect.

It’s actually a little more complicated for men.

Like thighs, the exposed belly has a tendency to spark a man’s imagination.

And while some women don’t look “sexy” in a bikini, it’s simply subjective to each man. A woman who is unattractive to one man is sexy to another & vice versa.

Finally, a lot of times men find the “imperfections” to be attractive and/or endearing. Some “imperfections” are beautiful from the start, while others might be shocking at first become endearing on the woman he loves.

Yes, the answers are great. Thank you for taking the time to ask!

Obviously, the two of us were considered immodest by obnoxious Muslim busybody standards, even though we looked perfectly normal to everyone in our own culture.
Its not just Muslims! This is a sign from a public area in NY state:

Kiryas Joel is inhabited by ultra-orthodox Satmar hasidic jews. I don’t think that catholics should have them as a role model (especially, the gender separation is quite absurd).

It is public, but it is a “community” of people. Looks like a housing development or apartment complex.

Outsiders may travel through or visit- but that place you posted is inhabited by people intentionally living a certain way. I was at the San Diego Zoo and was harassed by a total stranger. A Muslim man who was emboldened by the large number of people he was with (all of the women in the group were in niqab full face veils). My sister and I were NOT dressed immodestly by typical American standards.

It’s one thing to wander haplessly into a place like Kiryas Joel and be told you aren’t dressed to their to their standards when they even have signs about it. It’s quite another to be somewhere like the zoo where there is no dress code other than you must wear clothes. The two are not remotely the same.

I wonder how that poor guy from the zoo goes about his daily life in San Diego. How does he go grocery shopping or to other public places? Tons of women here wear close to nothing in public - shorts that are more like underwear than shorts, tank tops with barely any fabric, etc. If he found issue with you at the zoo, I don’t know how he goes anywhere here.
