I am in a complicated situation and would like your advice.
I am 17 years old and will be 18 soon and I have been married for a little over a year now, however married outside of the church. when my wife and I got engaged we immedietly signed up for marriage preperation. when we got the appointment we were told that we could not marry because I was not 18 ( my wife just turned 18 at that time and I was almost 17, we had been dating for 2 years). we prayed a lot about if we were ready to marry at our age and we found that we were and God supported us. We then asked if there was any way that we could get any exception to marry in the Church and we were told that only the bishop could but only in extreme circumstances that we did not meet. We then started planning a wedding ouside of the church not knowing the reprocusions of that. finally they told us that we could not marry outside of the church and if we did we couldn’t recieve eucharist.they told us to wait until I was 18 to get married but I felt that I couldn’t do that because my wife had severe depression and I felt that I had to live with her and take care of her. We prayed a lot and ended up asking God to bless our marrage and to be a witness to our true love and lifetime sacramental commitment to eachother and we said our vows to each other. we of course are planning to get married in the church as soon as I turn 18. attached to this huge dillemma was also the fact that while my wife was already a confirmed catholic but I was still coming to the faith and was in RCIA and was going to be baptized and confirmed on easter vigil that year. they told me that if we were going to get married outside of church that I couldn’t be baptized or confirmed because " it would be better for my soul" that I didn’t get baptized. I ended up getting baptized and confirmed anyway by telling them that we were getting married in the church.
so in summary, I have been living with this huge spiritual crisis and don’t know what to believe. I just want to do the right thing.
my questions are: is my baptism and confirmation valid? do you think God accepts my marriage? what should I do?
