Conclave May Begin March 9th or 11th

They just showed Cardinal Dolan at Kennedy Airport boarding his flight to Rome.

As always, he was happy and full of joy, backslapping and shaking the hands of Port Authority Policeman, airline employees and flight crew. All he came in contact with looked happy to be near the Cardinal. Pope Benedict himself always had that look on his face when the Cardinal was with him.

Folks, this is the first American Cardinal that I genuinely believe should, and more importantly could, be the next Pope. I pray that the Holy Spirit see’s it and will’s it!🙂

Then we’re praying for different things. My prayer is that the Spirit be merciful to us, that He guides His conclave and purifies His Church. Whatever the outcome - I’m thinking all might not appear as we see fit! 😛

In a way the movie reminds me of Wag the Dog because Wag the Dog was similar to the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal and the movie came out a few weeks after the scandal broke which was interesting because at the time of the filming there was no way they could have known.

The Shoes of the Fisherman is about a Non-Italian from a communist bloc (USSR vs Poland) becoming Pope. The movie came out 10 years before Pope John Paul II was elected Pope.

I have The Shoes of the Fisherman on DVD and just watched it again. The movie was released in 1968, and the book on which it was based was published in 1963. It’s almost chilling how many parallels there are between the story and what really happened shortly afterwards with the election of JPII.

In the book/movie, the new pope’s given name is Kiril, he came from communist Russia, he was elected as a compromise candidate, and he went head-to-head against the Soviets to prevent possible nuclear war. JPII’s given name was Karol, he came from communist Poland, he was elected as a compromise candidate, and he went head-to-head against the Soviets to prevent possible nuclear war.

The Papal Conclave sequence in Shoes of the Fisherman is about 30 minutes long and exceptionally well done. Even if you skip the rest of the movie, it’s worth renting for this part alone.

Good prayer, Tigg.

We have a prayer chain for the cardinals. Every person is asked to adopt each cardinal attending the conclave. It is found at Catholic Living/Spirituality under the title Looking for 118 Companions. I have Cardinal Burke. More than 50 cardinals still need to be adopted. Come join us.

I’m sad and excited all at the same time. Pope Benedict was so wise and humble, a model for all of us. May the Holy Spirit give us another pope such as him.

Much obliged. I started a litany to the Holy Spirit the very day he announced his resignation.
 
Does anyone know how the votes are counted? Do they need someone with a certain number of votes before they declare the next pope, or a percentage?

It’s now Monday evening. Has there been any information released about what the cardinals voted on today, and/or whether anything was decided?
