Confinement diary. For pandemic prevention

Tuesday March 24,

Now we have more stricter rules when we go out. With the printed attestation we need when we go out we now have to write the hours.
The governement speak of a confimement of at least 6 weeks, depend on how the pandemic would evolved. So until April 28… (And at the same time, US would probably made a premature end of all the confinement measures for economic reasons…)
The TV speak of the psychological risk of confinement and the governement has created a phone number with psychologist that everyone can call.

My husband had to do groceries and a lot of supply was lacking. Te supermaket was almost empty of employees. The remained ones don’t wear masks but in the bigger one of our area, the employees wear integral mark where no body part is left naked. And all the clients have to enter in the shop one by one with one meter of distance… according to our neighboors.

My Husband had to go to the post to send work and lessons to the students who have no internet connexion or no computer.

I had phone appointment with my psychologist. I found that not being face to face help me a lot to speak…

Wednesday 25,

My child is ill. Tired. Fever and cough a little. We don’t know if it is the virus or something else. We supevise her and of course don’t go to see a doctor.

More health praticians die.

Now that almost 3 billions people in the world are called to be confined, the situation is not limited to a few area. Great Britain and India recently took these rules.

EDIT : this evening, the bells of the churches of france had rang to honor the health practicians! I heard them!

I would be intereted to heard of others people. How do you manage this special time?

Ireland:
As of this evening we have an additional 235 cases, bringing the number to 1,564. The authorities are predicting around 15,000 within a week or two. We have nine deaths so far. Seems like not much but our population is only about 5 million.
On the positive side, it is reported that, due to social distancing measures, the number of close contacts that each patient has is down from 10 to about three or four.

I live in a medium sized town and most of the shops, cafes, restaurants have closed. Food, hardware, and motor factors/repairs are still open but we are only allowed in in small groups.

My wife cares for elderly nuns so she must still work and I am teaching my students from home using online platforms.

Other than that, I’ve ordered some stuff online for a few car modification projects I want to do, I’ve got some jobs around the house to do, cleaning, wiring some outdoor lights…etc.

At the moment the restrictions are on gatherings of four or more, though we are still seeing groups of teens congregating after dark.
We are still allowed out and the government is mainly relying on the citizens themselves to do the right thing.

I’m looking forward to meeting some friends for a coffee after this is over…but I suppose it’s a good time to get some extra prayer done.

Thanks you Adam for your message!

I remember that in another thread that you want to volunteer to help against the virus in health field. Is that possible without medical training? Have you had some propositions?

So the situation is a little different from France.
The cases are higher here, but our population is +65 millions.
+2933 cases this day, including 231 deaths. So a total of 25 000 codvid positives, and 1131 deaths.

We test very few people tested, a lack of medical materials, and a lot of people have the virus at home.

I hope that your wife’s nuns would not get the virus! Here there is a lot of death in retirement houses and in the past when there is an epidemic of tuberculosis for eg there was a lot of death in convents due to proximity.

here gatherings are punished and some big cities have instaured curfews to prevent them! we are much more strict on the reasons for going out and we have to write papers from justify every moving out. Frenchs are not people with a lot of discipline!

My husband is a teacher, he don’t access to online platform and a lot of his parent’s students don’t have internet or computer. That’s why he use the post office. My neighboor’s child is in primary school and his parents have to go on school to take the work. But on higher education level, online platforms are used. Public TV give lessons all the days.

Are masses cancelled?

Yes. I’ve put my name forward but 60,000 people volunteered so they are working down through the list. I volunteered to drive or deliver supplies etc.

Same here. We have rolled out more testing this week though, and our national stadium has been converted into a drive-thru testing location. They say they are hoping to test 15,000 per day in the coming weeks.

I hope so too. Probably a lot of them wouldn’t survive it.

We haven’t gone this far yet. I’m not even sure the government could legally do this. But most people are on board with the restrictions and realise that the sooner we comply, the sooner we can be back to normal.

I am a high-school or secondary school English teacher, so most of my students are online and able to do the work. Many have ignored it and are having a little holiday though. I think they probably realise that the junior exams will not happen this year so they don’t care to study.
My older students are doing ok though.
Are masses cancelled?
They weren’t but the new restrictions will probably mean that they will be.
The Irish bishops have suspended the Sunday obligation until the crisis is over.
My local parish are doing online masses and the Church is open for Eucharistic Adoration all day.

Sure, the situation is far stricter in France than Ireland! @AdamP88
The governement have vote a state of sanitary emergency (état d’urgence sanitaire) that extend the population’s control on confinement.

Here the paper we have to fill. One new for each travel and one per person. reason, date and hour of travel.

Wow…I think most Irish people wouldn’t do that. We will happily do our bit for our country but when it comes to filling forms, it’s too much! 🤣 🤣

We are allowed to journey with our family group, and to get exercise etc. We are asked not to socialise or meet people unnecessarily.

Undisciplined Irish people! @AdamP88

When we have no choice we do it, if we don’t want to pay 135 euros of penalty! 😆

We don’t have the right to felt our house go to holidays, visit friends or family, going out out of city or more than 1 km by feet around the house and alone of course!

We have death last week. Only the two sons had been allowed to attempt the service, despite him having many friends and a large family.

The government has also tool more difficult work decisions.

Currently the legal lenght of work is 35 hours per week. And an employee more than 48 hours. But they have decided that because of the state of war economy until the end of year the legal lenght is now 60 hours a weeks for many sectors such as energy, transports etc.
Sunday become a day of work too.

It is not come in application yet, but well… 😔

You cannot take her to the doctor? In the US, they approved our “visiting” the doctor online–telemedicine. Or at least call?

I will pray for her, as well as you and the rest of your family.

Yeah. I think you will risk arrest if you completely disregard the regulations. But hopefully that’s not going to be necessary.

I’m sorry to hear this.

I hope your own child feels better soon as well.

Praying for you!

Telemedecine is now approved and can be taken in charge financially by social security, like normal consultations.

I will wait to see how things evolved. it is not necessary the virus. And the advises are more or less alwaysthe same, paracetamol and rest.

Our doctor (far away) is now retired since a few day, but maybe he is continuing because of the epidemic…

April 1, 00,30 am.

It has been 17 days since my children and me hadn’t gone outside the house! Since Sunday March 15!
No, it is not an April fool, it is the reality of confinement to save lives and relieve the hospitals!

The fever of my child has stopped and she seems less tired than before. My cough stopped too. I don’t know if it was the virus or not. I am relieve because the friends who came to our house sunday March 15 have no symptoms - i felt guilty to have seen them.

It changed nothing for us, except for the 2, 3 sometimes 4 times me or the children we go out (mass, library, toy libray, park (with friends), market, psychologist…).

I like that all the family is reunited (as my husband woks from home) and don’t see my husband more nervous and angry than usually. Thanks God! Because the confinement is said to be the opportunity of a lot of family troubles in general.

yet the older child makes more crisis than usually…

The older child is happy to stay several days inside and resist every attempt to go out. Yesterday she cries and yelled at the door until his father let her going inside. This day he had difficulties to make her going out but when she was she didn’t want to come back to the house, despite the cold!
The baby, on the contrary, the last morning asks for going in the garden!

Road and air traffic is almost completely stopped. Trains too. I listen the silence the night and it is perfect. The newspaper speak of a drastic reduction of pollution and noise thanks to the confinement. Animals come again in the cities.

The epidemic may have reach its peak in France and Italy. It may be that our measures works despite the numbers of deaths that are still high and the hospitals satured in some regions. Patients in resuscitation have been transported by train to others regions, and by military german plane to Germany. We still lack of medical material, masks etc but some creative measures are taken.

Yet, now the virus hard attack the US - that has less medical pofessionals than in the average developped country- and the TV present the chaos that it is in New york City…

There is polemics and I don’t know if the medias ty to frighten us…
  • China is accused of having hidden the epidemic for months. And to have hidden the real rate of deaths -because the virus seems more deadly in Europe. They are accused to have lie to World Health Organisation.
  • Italy don’t count the numbers of deaths at home. We don’t know how many because they are not detected…
  • In France we were unprepared for the pandemic because after the H1N1 epidemic we don’t have renew the medical stocks- because it is costy and because we believe that another pandemic was not possible… There is also controversy about the drug used for Malaria… Until now, she is allowed in medical context for some situations only.
  • The virus seems more dangerous than excepted and younger people are badly affected. Some debated if the virys can survive in the air…

The fever of my child has stopped and she seems less tired than before. My cough stopped too.
You must be so relieved! I do hope the good news continues and the rates decline. This has been a very hard time for you and all those in France and Italy and the other stricken nations.

Am praying for you, ❤️:pray:t2:.

MIL told me she heard there may be a paracetamol/acetaminophen shortage.

I’ve been keeping a written running total of cases in my county because it’s the hot spot of my state.
The rest of my family doesn’t want to hear it anymore.

Please remember me in your prayers, because I just learned my grown up kiddo is two social contacts away from a confirmed case and I’m flipping out as we speak 😳

God bless ❤️:pray:t2:

I will said a paryer for you and your son! @0Scarlett_nidiyilii

Because of the pandemic, in France the access to paracetamol without a medical prescription is restricted in pharmacies to one one or two boxes to avoid being out of stock or shortage like what you describe. People try to make preventive stock if we don’t stopped them…

My family and I are all doing well, thank You, God!, and just learning to adjust to things. I sometimes get very nervous about disinfecting everything…

You mentioned the quiet–it is the same here. I live in a place that is very pretty but which usually has a lot of noise like traffic noise. Now it is really quiet, which is sometimes peaceful, and sometimes scary, like the quiet before a storm.

Your oldest may be in the awkward position of being old enough to understand some of what is happening but not old enough to know how to handle that. For that reason, scary as they are for us adults, they can be even scarier for children.

My continued prayers for you!
