Confinement diary. For pandemic prevention

April 10,

Goods news.
With the confinement, mass that is offered on the public TV since decades climbs to record audience. 1,7 millions of spectators sunday March 22, so much more than Christmas and Easter. Average audience are three times less (550 000).

Mixed news.
My husband had a video meeting with his colleagues and superior. All the collegues are at risk to seriouselu loose their job. Some teachers had already applied and accepted to some posts. But they cannot know more now, as the candidates can change their application at the last time. Others candidates can still apply to the remaining free posts.
To conclude some would loose their jobs, but we don’t know who.

For the scientistic disciplines it is very hard to find teachers. For eg, they don’t have a mathematic teacher since September where my husband works. In some others disciplines it is easy to find candidates. Unfortunately for him.

Holy Saturday, April 11 2020,
With my daughter we colored and cut many little papers eggs for Easter. What a good activity!

Sadly no Paschal vigil, on of my prefered mass of the year…

Easter Sunday, April 12 2020,

TV mass. My children colored Easter secular and religious pictures. I gave explanations.

The afternoon, they hunt the papers eggs that were made the last day.
After we counted them and created others.

After my daughter and me we light up candles including the basptism candle of the baby that look like the paschal candle. Explanations. And we read her religious book on Easter and much more.

What a success! Great days!

Easter Monday, 12 April.

This day is also an holy day in France. We dont go to work or school.
New egg hunting. New eggs coloring and then we tidy them for the next year.

Bad news : 25 people are codvid positive on the old people residency of the city. Including many nurses…

Tv presidential talk. The confinement will ended after May 11. The schools will be opened and things will get slowly come back to normal and many tests will need to be done.

Today we have 14,967 deaths. And less and less since a few days. To compare (I know we cannot!), it is more than 10,000 deaths in New York state, for by far less population, so we may said that we are somewhat more “lucky”.

Prayers for you and your family! What a good Easter you seem to have had under these difficult circumstances!

Le Christ est ressuscité! Alléluia!

@Elf01,

It is firm. Unless the pandemic skyrocked again before.

So schools will be opened again. Because there is inequality between students now. Some have access to high tech connected material, some not, Some parents can followed their children in their schoolwork, some not.
Shops will be opened again
The majority of people will go back to work.

But the gatherings events such as sportive and cultural one will be closed until at least mid July.
And all religious cereomonies are still forbidden. So no mass, marriage, christening, funerals…

A sad irony because we can have a civil mariage during the confinement but not a saramental one, and often a secular burial rite (not always for practical reasons but are not forbidden) but rarely a religious one.

Of course there is a high risk tat the virus will spread up qickly after the deconfinement.

The sacraments and my family are what I miss most.

My suspicion is that we’ll see relaxations followed by reimpositions for a while. I hope not though.

I am sorry that you don’t have your famiy with you.

Are you living in USA? in a high risk area? What are your restrictions?

A few days ago, I decided to do little drawings as I supervised my child’s work…and I drew a ciboium, a chalice and a monstrance! So we may think that I miss that too.
But I miss my friendship a lot.

I fear that too!
Aparently we may be mandate to wear a mask if we go outside. Don’t know how that would be possible as it is currently almost impossible to buy one…

What are your restrictions?
I think we have similar restrictions. Non essential businesses are closed or remotely operating. Travel is only allowed for shopping or exercise within 2km of your home. Masks aren’t required at the moment.

oh I forget @Elf01, do you need a paperto justify every travel such as us? Or not like in ireland according AdamP88?

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I don’t need papers. You seem to have it a lot stricter. I have seen police close to my home a couple of times but wasn’t stopped. I don’t know if it was corona virus related.

Sunday April 19,

The pandemic is now stabilized, but the population would not be immunized when we will start the economy again. It seems that only 10% of us have catch the disease.Far from the 60% necessary to make the pandemic decreases.

The “déconfinement” conditions are now a little more precise.
  • The schools would not all opened and not all children would start school on May 11. We still don’t know the terms, but one track evokes by the media is to priviledge children for whom the homeschooling is difficult (for eg for thoses who don’t have access to internet) and children from poor families.
  • Starting April 20, the visits by close family members would be allowed again for old people in residency, but with no physical contact at all.
Maybe there is an hope for your mother in law in some weeks, @Convert3? Who she is?
  • They want to test more…And it may become a mandate to wear a mask in public transportations.
I am not reassure at all. The conditions seems vague and we will have to deal with lot of constraints outside the house and the risk to catch or transmit the virus for many months or years. Some people are designed by scientistics as people who have more risks such as people of 70 years old and more, people who suffer from obesity, cardiac conditions…Some said that they should stay at home for at least until the end of the year…

I have heard on the TV this evening that in the UK, where the situation is far more deadly than us, that the governement said that the situation would not come to normal before at least the fall of 2021. They are more coldly honest than us…They speak of at least 40,000deaths if we found a vaccine within 18 months.

So I worry for my father who is in the group risk. Should we avoid to see the grandparents indefinitely? Is my husband in the group risk? Would this may have an impact on his abaility to keep his job in september?
I am not good to keep the barrier gestures. I don’t like at all this perspective to be at risk when I will leave the home. Just don’t want to go outside anymore…
But i know that we turn a little in a circle with the children and we need to buy some basic work material, borrow news books and games and… see friends.

Oh, and of course our pedagogical inspection for homeschooling that should have taook place during the quarantine would be postponed before the end of year… Hope it would be positive!

Maybe there is an hope for your mother in law in some weeks, @Convert3?
She is in a memory care facility in Florida. She is still confined to her room, but doesn’t understand why. Thank you for thinking of her!

You’re welcome @Convert3!

I think the only reason the governement allowed again a little contact with older people (some speak behind a glass) is not because the health risk decrease, but because they realize that it is very negative for the mental health of residents… Not to mention thoses who die alone.

We even had a woman who was fined for breaking the confinement because she was seeing her husband in a residency for older people through the window… And a man who was fined because he was traveling to see his dying father…As there was polemic the fined were lifted…

It’s good to read bits of your experience. U.S here, I’m sure you’ve seen our numbers. Our state, Ohio is letting up some restrictions may 1st. But the children will not be going back to school this year. 3 of my children are at their dads until June 1st, (wasn’t married to theirfather, before my conversion) so I am suffering missing my children and wondering what the future will look like for our visotstion schedule. Normally they are with us, And go visit every other weekend.
We decided to not have revolving doors, I am pregnant due in August, and my oldest has asthma so is considered high risk too. This is the toughest part for me, missing them of course, worrying about future.
I went outside for the first time this Monday, for a drive to a secluded trail.
We are planning a home delivery, (done it before) to avoid hospitals
I dont go out to garden without my mask, and it bothers me to have it on for long. We have a neighbor who is a healthcare worker and her dog is always out too.
Like you, I’m saddened and worried about not being able to see family. My mom and gma.
I know our Lord is near during this struggle. I’m trusting Him to pull us through.

@Swiftdove,
thanks you for your post!

Congratulation for your pregnnacy! And best wishes for your home delivery! I had always want one, but it was not possible due to lack of a midwife near me… (very difficult to have one in our country!)

I am sorry that you missed your children. In France, we are allowed to transport children from dad to mom’s house and vice versa when the parents are separated.
Sorry that you don’t be able to see your family…

Well, I find that 1st may is very soon given that The US are entered in the pandemic after Europe and the spread of the virus seems not to shrink… France have choose to do the opposite, to let the children come to school sooner tha some resctrictions such as tourism, big gatherings including religious ceremonies…

Why are you keeping your mask in your garden? If everybody stay in their garden and you don’t have too close contact with them…

Well, But I admit to doesn’t have liked when our neighboor touched my baby and her toy through the fence. it was well-meaning because the child had fall, but it is a breaking of the confinement rules, and i am suspicious!

I don’t have a mask, but I see more and more people who wear one in the streets!

Thank you. Yes, in the U.S we are allowed to transport the children too, but 2 of our fam members being high risk, and there is a revolving door at the childrens dads, we had to make the choice to keep them, (tried that, their dad didnt agree) or let them go to take social distancing measures safely. So we are hoping to come to an agreement for less going back and forth. Perhaps 2 months at a time.

The children in France are back to school? Sounds good. I hope it goes well for us all. Well, as for why I would wear mask in my yard, we live close to all our neighbors, tight fit, and our closest one works in the health department. My husband read it is airborne and CDC recommends 20 ft distance. He is protective and says since we dont know much about it, to take the careful route.

Yeah the neighbor thing, touching your baby, I can imagine that would make you nervous.
Yesterday I saw a young girl riding her bike around the block with mask on. She went around like 5 times. It was a little sad to see.
God bless you and your family.

Where I live, you must wear one to shop at the grocery store. In addition, to pay for groceries, we are corralled off with 6 ft marking on the floor as we wait for someone to direct us to the next open register. A small price to pay to be able to buy food.

I am hoping that we will be able to shop at other places with the same precautions in place soon.

Thank you for keeping us up to date with what is going on in your part of the world, @Anicette! 💐

Thanks you Swiftdove and Irishmon!

I am sorry @Swiftdove, 2 months wait to see your children is a lot!

Ouch! 20 feet is a lot! I don,'t see how it can be possible outside the home!
In addition, to pay for groceries, we are corralled off with 6 ft marking on the floor
It is the same for us!

Monday, April 27:

oh no, @Swiftdove, children are not currently back to school! The children age 5/6 years old, 6/7 yo and 10/11 years old will go back to school **Monday May 11.*The rest one week after. The universities will stay closed until September.
I note that it will be sooner than yours, sorry for not being clear enough!

Parents are according to a poll at more than 60% against this come back to school, and the average population too. We think this come back is only due because if the governement want the parents back to work, the children need to be in school.

This weekend, it was revealed in the media that the Scientistic Council advise the governement to not open the school before September, but the government choose to go against and keep his date.

The governement had recently said that the physical come back would be if the parents want it. if they don’t want, the children would need to do their school work given by their techers at home. They will need to work and be available at the school hours from their house. Absences would be no longer tolerated.

For teachers to do both physical and distance lessons would probably mean much more work!*

I speak of absences because my husband is a teacher and some of his students don’t return any work since the beginning of the confinement, April 17… He had the parents on the phone, they received the work (by post mail), but are not able to help their children so it is difficult…

The conditions would probably be strict. The Scientistic Council recommands no more than 15 students by class, physical distancing, mandate masks, no contact between parents… because if the children don’t seem affected or carry a lot the virus, surely parents at the begining or end of school are!
Where I live, you must wear one to shop at the grocery store.
It would be a mandate in public transportations. But it seems that the new orientation is that they would be a mandate in every public places. All the population would need to have them. The tobacconists would seel cloth reusable masks. Some french textils factories started mass production and imports are huge.

*My Americans readers may ask themselves the same question I ask my husband today? Why these children would not be directed to homeschooling with the public distance learning? (do you call that a “curriculum”?). the answer is because we have to pay for it whereas public school is free- and maybe because they don’t want more children who are homeschooled. it is a possible legal option for us but that is confidential, and many politic people worry because the numbers of homeschoolers are increasing since a decade.
