Arab Christians use “Allah” to mean God. I even heard them saying “Insha Allah” which means Godwilling. That’s solid proof that the God of the Muslims is the same God who sent Abraham and all the prophets.

Regarding this thread, it doesnt need all that…yes to modesty, no to muslim dress, not because it is muslim, but because modesty is not about extremes. To us, face, hair, ankles, arms are not sexual…if it was looked at sexually by mohammad in the 7th century, it does not mean it is our view today.Muslims can stick to it, to us, it doesnt make sense.

oh please…do not put Jesus on the level of what to dress or what to eat…Jesus is far more beyond that. He did not come to preach wordly teachings as dress or food…as to Matthew: Jesus fulfilled the law…thats why we don’t follow that law anymore…Jesus came to free us : know the truth it shall set you free, not to enslave us in dress codes or food. Thats all : KNOW the TRUTH. When you know who you are and who your fellow human being is, these silly issues as clothes will become so trivial coz your worth is much higher and your body is much above the standards mohammad gave…when you KNOW, you don’t fear. So know yourself before asking women to cover up because of YOUR insecurity.

Sorry had to put my :twocents: in this. I dress modestly. No tight fitting clothing in public. Skirts, modest neck lines and with my hair pulled back and/or a scarf/cap when out.

I wear pants to ride horses, bike ride and go rock climbing. I wear a modest cut bathing suit when sailing or when I swim. The thing to remember is to wear clothing that is suited to what you are doing.

I dress for Mass as does my whole family. Skirts, dresses and no jeans.

Both cultures could learn from the other one.

As regards to attitude towards human body, this separates Islam and Christianity. While Islam sees humans body as insulting, sex object and something to be ashamed of, Christianity sees it as something beautiful, made in the image of God and the temple of the Holy Spirit (God).

Christians therefore would look at the opposite sex as the righteousness of image of God - looking at them as brothers or sisters first (in Jesus) and not as sex object. Thus there is freedom in the choice of dress we wear within the boundary of reasons because we know that we will not be despised.

Just a note.

Not all nuns’ habits are the same. Their designs may reflect the symbol or significance of their religous orders. Of course factor of modesty is taken into consideration in the design, but primarily it is not just to hide the body per se. Climate too would play a part sometimes. Some religous do not even wear the habits. If we’re talking about “bag ladies”, nuns should not necessarily come to mind.

The difference in the wearing of the burqa - it is meant to hide the body. Looking at the illustration and practices mentioned in Islamic countries, these surely are the cases. Having said that, I have no quarrel over what Muslim women wears. If they want to wear the burqas, well fine. Good. Who are we as Christians to tell them on what to wear?

Where did John Paul II say that islam is a religion of GOD? In the catechism it states:

The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day"

That does not state that Islam is from God! It states that they PROFESS to hold the faith of Abraham, but that does not mean that they do. Is “Allah” the God of Abraham or a false god created by Mohammed? Do you believe that the Quran is the word of God?
I think you’re making more of his statement than what he meant to convey.

Jesus still called a spade, a spade and he still used the word “hypocrites” when necessary! Do you honestly believe that Jesus would condone false teachings?

Jesus has and will condone false teachings, he never said go and rid the world of false teachings, dislike and seperate them from society. You now lash out at me because you can’t defend that statement about nuns. The clothing are almost identical in shape, size, and what they cover. mOst choose to dress that way, it is part of their religion and culture, just like the nun for Catholicism. Take a deep breath and count down from 10 to 1, find inter peace and live like Christ asked you too, lovingly and peacefully.

you are turning round the bush…the example given to you about schools where crosses were put down + no Christian holidays is an example of Christian intolerance? what about the nutcase who was “disturbed” by the cross in Italy? Christian intolerance?what about killing people only because they are Christians in Indonesia for example? it is because Christians are not tolerant? if you want to defend, defend in a rational way please.
