So I have heard that the devil never tells the truth and in the bible says in John 8:44
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
But at the same time, St. Dominic had an experience when exorcising someone, and the demon(s) said:
“Listen well, you Christians: the Mother of Jesus Christ is all-powerful, and She can save Her servants from falling into hell. She is the Sun which destroys the darkness of our wiles. It is She who uncovers our hidden plots, breaks our snares, and makes our temptations useless and ineffectual.
“We have to say, however reluctantly, that not a single soul who has really persevered in Her service has ever been damned with us; one single sigh that She offers to the Blessed Trinity is worth far more than all the prayers, desires, and aspirations of all the saints.
“We fear Her more than all the other saints in Heaven together, and we have no success with Her faithful servants. Many Christians who call upon Her when they are in the hour of death, and who really ought to be damned according to our ordinary standards, are saved by Her intercession.
“Oh, if only that Mary (it is thus in their fury that they called Her) had not pitted Her strength against ours and had not upset our plans, we should have conquered the Church and should have destroyed it long before this, and we would have seen to it that all of the Orders in the Church fell into error and disorder.
“Now that we are forced to speak, we must also tell you this: nobody who perseveres in saying the Rosary will be damned, because She obtains for Her servants the grace of true contrition for their sins, and by means of this they obtain God’s forgiveness and mercy.”

A good liar will sometimes speak the truth.

Demons have been,at times, commanded to speak the truth during exorcisms.

Still, it’s best to get our truth from God alone and his Catholic Church. If we live by our Faith, we have no other need of the truth.

The unclean spirits have said, for example, that praying the rosary does them harm, and I would agree on that for sure. 🙂

Demons can and do recognize the truth. In the manner of their master, who hates all that is good and holy, they must first recognize that which is good and holy, so that they may then oppose it. They did so when they were confronted by Christ. They identified Him, which He did not want them to do (Matthew 8:29, Mark 1:24-25, Mark 5:7-9). That reveals their rebellious nature. Indeed, they can employ the truth and make truthful statements, but only with evil purpose, or with the lie mixed in.

even Satan spoke the truth in gen. then a lie.

it is a damned spirit (soul) that is speaking I do suppose and not the Devil himself, as well as he was forced to tell the truth. Just because one is in hell does not mean that person is a liar, he or she just did not do what Jesus told them to. so they get to go to Hell. so even nice people do not go to Heaven.

Pax Christi.

The enemy will manipulate the truth, to deceive us; it is, in fact, a clever form of lying.

God bless.

ok — he tells the truth to use it to his advantage then slips in a lie to get you into trouble too. you will even see people do this – this is being like Satan the Devil

he is even in the Chruch you will find the lies of Satan within the catholic teacings if you know how to look for them and expose them for what they are, too.

I think you left out part of what you wanted to write. There are no lies within Catholic teaching.

Respectfully I say the devil was lying about Mary. The very first sentence was a lie when he said that Mary is all powerful. Only God is all powerful. Then he says that she can save her servants from falling into hell, but only Jesus can save us from falling into hell. It sounds like Satan is trying to convince us that we can be saved through devotion to Mary and pull us away from the truth of the gospel. He says “if only Mary had not pitted “her” strength against ours.” Mary, like us, has no inherent strength; our strength comes through our reliance on God. I really believe that Satan was trying to throw us off track on this one.

go back and read what I said, then you will see what I really wanted to say. not what you wanted me to say, mind you… 👍

If you perceive lies in church teachings, I suggest that you may have a misunderstanding. Look it up in the Catechism, discuss it with fellow Catholics whom you trust in matters of faith, ask a priest to explain it, and see if you cannot come to a better understanding.

Or feel free to “expose them” here at CAF. I would like to know.

Yes, during the exorcism, the priest, in the Name of Christ, commands the demon to tell the truth and answer certain questions.

And the devil will tell the truth when it suits his purpose.

well you sound like an open minded person. but that is left to be seen. you also need logic and reasoning to add to the open mindedness to find errors in anything when you look for the truth of all things.

when I have time, God lead me back to this apologist in here that wrote about the soul and posted it in here and it is wrong, so I have to go correct him first, on this matter. as soon as I figure out how to get a hold of him.

Personal experiences are not dogma. Also, salvation, initiated by God, requires the repentance by the individual, although certainly the Virgin Mary is an advocate for us, in that she prays that we may be worthy. What the demons said could also be lies because they appear to make salvation dependent on the Virgin Mary rather than the faithful through the merits of Christ.

It’s not that Mary is powerful as in she has supernatural powers, but that she has a lot of influence/authority in Heaven, she is the Mother of God. Don’t rulers of nations have “power”? It’s a different use of the word “power”, it doesn’t always mean the ability to do supernatural things on ones own nature. Same concept with where it says
“she can save her servants from falling into hell”, this means if you have a strong devotion to Mary then it is unlikely that you will be damned because she brings you closer to her son, not herself. “No Mary, No Jesus, Know Mary, Know Jesus”👍 -

Matthew 16:18-19 clearly indicates that it is impossible for there to be lies in church teaching, God does not lie.

If you have a good understanding of what the devotion to Mary is then you will know it is for you to do what Jesus said to do.

therefore, she takes you, or leads you to Jesus to be one of His Disciples not hers. Judgment for ones sins she cannot say do not imped sin onto this one or that one, for then God would not be a just God, he then would be showing partiality, by the word of Mary saying for Him to do so.

as we know Mary is in alignment with Gods will then she would never try to persuade God to show partiality. For if she did then she would no longer be like God either, therefore you now have a riff in Heaven again, letting sinners back into Heaven. This will never be.

Ahhhhh, but maybe she intercedes for all of us?

Here is the story of a priest for whom Mary interceded.

The following quote comes from “Interview with an Exorcist” by Fr. Jose Fortea. It doesn’t deal directly with the devil possibly telling the truth, but does give some relevant information.
12. Can a demon perform a good act?
We need to remember that demons are not engaged in doing evil 100 percent of the time. Sometimes, they just think. Doing this is not evil at all; it is merely an act of their nature. Nevertheless, demons cannot perform a supernaturally moral act (for example, an act of charity, supernatural repentance, or sincere glorification of God) because such an act requires supernatural grace.
**A demon will glorify God only if it is forced to ** (note - my emphasis relevant to the topic). It may regret having gone away from God, but without any true repentance or sincere pleas for forgiveness. As such, a demon can do many other natural acts with its intelligence and will. But a demon will never have the least amount of compassion or love towards anyone. This is impossible as a result of its rebellion against God, who is Love itself. A demon’s heart only hates; it revels in the suffering of others. By their own free choice, the demons will feel an acute absence of the life-giving presence of God’s love for all eternity.
On the business of “a demon’s heart only hates”, I would sometimes see a demonic expression on my father’s face. Something was coming through, or using him if you like, and one thing that struck me on those occasions was the hatred, even more than the evil.

To answer the OP’s original question, demons will only tell the truth if they’re forced to.

When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
When he lies, he speaks his native language… when he tells the truth, he is speaking a language foreign to himself. So you see that both this comment from the Bible and the fact that the devil sometimes tells the truth can be reconciled.

Keep in mind that Satan was the Archangel Lucifer - the bearer of light. It can be possible for us to think that something is coming from God when it is actually the work of the devil for the very reason that Lucifer can give us false light.
