I found this about the Brown Scapular (or Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel) on the EWTN site:Thank you for your post but a lot of the things I’m reading are from saints and popes who really seem to elevate her to a point of our salvation.
Here is a quote that is apparently from Mary herself:
“Whosoever shall die wearing my Scapular shall not suffer the flames of Hell.”
Would Mary really state that salvation can actually come from wearing a scapular at the moment of death. That is so far from the teachings even of the Catholic Church let alone widely accepted views on the nature of salvation. What do I make of this?
- Our Lady of Mount Carmel
“Those who die wearing this scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.” This must not be understood superstitiously or magically, but in light of Catholic teaching that perseverance in faith, hope and love are required for salvation.
