A friend of mine emailed me and shed some light on the video, apparently not all is at it seems. I’m not sure if I am allowed to post this in the other thread, but it applies:

"…I saw the original episode on Real Catholic TV where Michael Voris did an expose of the church rededication, which was critical of Archbishop Dolan, even though the archbishop has a long history of being a traditionalist. Subsequent reports indicate that the issue was more complicated than it seemed on the surface. The archbishop certainly knew of the overtly liberal, almost notorious, approach of the Jesuit-run church in question. He is trying to outreach and steer the parish closer to church teaching, while still keeping them within the church. He recently ordered the parish not to participate by name in the gay pride parade, and they obeyed him. The archbishop has a challenge to either kick the parish out of the Catholic Church, or to try to bring them back into the fold. He is apparently trying to bring them back in. We may or may not agree with his methods, but based on the archbishop’s long devotion to the traditions of the Church, I believe we should keep an open mind about how he is exercising his office in this difficult matter. I believe as bishop he is trying to save their souls, and he is first trying to slowly educate and persuade them, but I believe he will remove the Jesuits in question, and place another pastor there, and rebuild the parish after the likely mass exodus, if he has to. Unfortunately, a significant number of the NYC-based Jesuits are on the edge of apostacy, and the archbishop faces a challenge of how best to proceed. …Here are a couple of informative articles, thought neither give the full story.

Comrade: There is nothing one can say about St. Francis Xavier that they don’t proudly proclaim on their website and in their bulletins. Please note the absence of Courage - the organization which tries to help homosexuals live chaste lives, in accordance with Church teaching. All this information is readily available to Abp. Dolan and his staff and has been for years. He had the perfect opportunity to stop them by not rededicating the altar. Instead, he cheered them on, allowed a liturgical dancer with an incense bowl, never even hinted their lifestyle has a problem. Re: the parade: they carried the banner; they just held it backwards, so that people could read it as they passed by. They also wore t-shirts with the parish name on it and the rainbow cross. They actively gave out pamphlets promoting their lifestyle. They did not obey the Bishop’s one request - they merely circumvented it. The result: not one word of censure.

I think for myself, I keep swinging back and forth on my enthusiasm for Archbishop Dolan, so that is a clear sign that I need to put the brakes on and examine my conscience and behavior. First off, I see how easily the appearance of things can actually cloak the true nature of things. Second, I need to not be so quick to pass on an opinion and be so freely critical, and at the same time, not be naive. Obviously when I put my faith in people rather than Christ, I am being unfair.

That being said, I am glad you mentioned Courage. I will research them because I have never heard of them, and I believe that we must reach out to those who struggle with SSA. But I fear that the spirit of the times leads very well-meaning Christians into thinking that outreach to homosexuals can and should also mean an embrace of Gay Culture, and that one can embrace and encourage Gay Culture and still foster a solid Catholic life…and I just don’tt believe this to be possible. I see the entirety of Gay Culture as something that is wicked and that only leads to and re-enforces homosexual lifestyles. I see the culture as the product of those who have been given over to a reprobate mind and that any attempt to persuade the Church that it can embrace gay culture as part of it evangelization efforts with the gay community is a subversive attempt to seek affirmation for sinful choices, that they are seeking to have the Church one day say “you can be a practicing homosexual and still be a godly human being in a state of grace.” I fear that Catholic leaders who give too much rope only helps sinners hang themselves with a rope of damnation, and makes a lynch-mob of us all.
