:nope:

“Never”? No

“A miniscule # of abortions”? Yes.

See Gonzales v. Carhart

Those who oppose what the Congressman said need to look at the science

Dr John Crown, an eminent oncologist has said, ‘I don’t think I ever had a case where abortion was necessary to save mom’

Most cases where the mother’s life is claimed to be in danger if she carries on with pregnancy she can be treated with out an abortion taking place, but unfortunately on many occasions where the mother can be treated, doctors recommend abortion

There are cases in the medical literature of abdominal ectopic pregnancies that have survived and yet abortions are done for ectopic pregnancy

It is difficult to ascertain if there truly is any illness that put the woman’s health so at risk that continuing pregnancy would kill her if she continued with pregnancy. There are also many things which people consider threats to a pregnant woman’s life but are not really life threatening if treated properly. Threats like preeclampsia which can be treated with early delivery or bed rest; eclamplsia has similar treatment as preeclampsia but may require c section; placenta previa can be life threatening but with proper medical management both mother and unborn child can be protected; placental abruption can be treated; a pregnant woman with cancer can be treated with chemotherapy while the baby tolerates. Study found pregnant women can have chemotherapy and it will not cause complications

Hopefully Walsh will be voted out of office along with Akin.

Slow down. Maybe he means that it’s not necessary to actively try to kill the baby (this is what abortion is) to save the life of the mother. A baby can be removed while trying to save the baby’s life instead of trying to kill the baby. If the baby that was removed dies while trying to save the baby this is called the principle of double effect which is not the same thing as abortion. It’s beyond my inferior mortal reasoning to understand how God has the patience he does with a culture that thinks a mother has a right to murder her own child.

Rep. Walsh seems to be be backing away from his earlier statement.

Quoting from the news article mentioned in the first post
Update: According to The Chicago Daily Herald’s Kerry Lester, Walsh said in a press conference Friday that he believes ectopic pregnancies can result in death, but did not take questions about whether he would make abortion exceptions in those cases.

I’m beginning to learn that the “liberal” comes before “Catholic” in

“liberal Catholic”.

See Biden, Joe.
Yes. Talk about selling yourself out for a mess of pottage (or a potty message)

A sad fact of life in today’s world. Too many people put their political preference ahead of their religion. A Catholic should never truly be Democrat or Republican, they should be Catholic, and vote according to the Catholic faith.

A study in Australia agrees with him, as do I.
Ectopic pregnancy
Tubal pregnancy; Cervical pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that occurs outside the womb (uterus). It is a life-threatening condition to the mother. The baby (fetus) cannot survive.

Maybe we should leave these decisions to people who actually went to medical school.
(Reuters Health) - While it remains rare for a woman in the U.S. to die from pregnancy complications, the national rate of pregnancy-related deaths appears to be on the upswing, a new government study finds.
Researchers at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that between 1998 and 2005, the rate of pregnancy-related deaths was 14.5 per 100,000 live births. And while that rate is low, it is higher than what has been seen in the past few decades.
The researchers caution that the extent to which the rise reflects a true elevation in women’s risk of dying is unclear. Recent changes in how causes of death are officially reported by states to the federal government may be at least partially responsible for the findings.
However, it is also possible that part of the increase is “real.” According to the new data, deaths from chronic medical conditions that are exacerbated by pregnancy, including heart disease, appear to account for a growing number of pregnancy-related deaths.
In contrast, deaths from actual obstetric complications – namely, hemorrhaging and pregnancy-related high blood pressure disorders – are declining.

I don’t care what this congressman said. If I ever go to the doctor and he tells me that an abortion is necessary to save my life I’ll take his word over the congressman who has never medically evaluated me and doesn’t have the education required to do so even if he tried.

sigh

Obviously in that case there would be no moral question whatsoever, is there? The baby has no chance of surviving. The abortions I was referring to (obviously, I’d say) are abortions that kill a viable fetus to save the life of the mother.

Welcome to Obamacare then, where Rep. Joe Walsh, Tammy Duckworth, or even Eagles’ Joe Walsh might be inspecting you.

🙂

That’s not the issue. The issue is that this guy is shooting off his mouth about things he has no clue about. There are rather a large variety of medical maladies that can befall a pregnant woman an that either are sure to, or highly likely to, kill her if the pregnancy continues.

What moral questions there are is another topic. The man is ignorant and incorrect.
