I and many other people thought with polls showing lower democrat enthusiasm and the state of the economy that the turn out for Obama from 2008 would be a 1 off. That did not happen (where democrats can sustain that for a future candidate is questionable), and 7 million white voters or rather non voters did not vote

Oh I was responding to “Sooooo…secularism trumps divine law, huh?” What I am saying is non Catholics do not necessarily interpret God’s law as you do. That’s all I was saying. Take the United Church of Christ for just one example. They believe God is still speaking as our finite minds come to further understanding. Which coincidentally is the Christian eccelsial community in which President Obama was baptized in. As President he has attended an Episcopal church.

I do not agree with this, I understand your point; however, I believe the fact that 3 million less people came out for Romney than McCain is very telling. How long has it been since a real conservative was on the ballot and there was a frenzy to go out and vote for him…that would be Reagan. We haven’t had one since. If you would see a pure conservative on the presidential ticket, he/she would win in my opinion.

Here’s another poll for your collection, Abyssinia. More than half of Latinos favor SS marriage. The times they may be changin’. And more and more people may come to the conclusion the voters did in Maryland and Maine.

I hope you are right, but things seem pretty bleak to me. If the Republicans had made some gains in the Senate and House I might think different , but it seems more and more that fewer people each election will vote for a Republican. If we ever get to a point where this is a one party country, God help us all.

I’m not rubbing anything in. There are a lot of polls on any number of things with varying results. Probably because I was in a swing state with a lot of Electoral votes and with a landline phone without CID, I was polled 4 or 5 times in this election cycle. Abyssinia has said she doesn’t accept a poll which suggests Latinos are in favor of SS marriage or certain other polls. That’s fine. Lots of people don’t accept one poll over another. That’s all I was saying. And yes those with my political POV may have won this wk’s election but I am certain they will lose another in the future. Many elections in the past have not gone my way. Probably more have not than have. I understand your disappointment and is exactly why I am not gloating or rubbing it in. I am merely discussing topics.

I’m perfectly fine with living in a nation of plural beliefs. I frankly wouldn’t want it any other way. I am able to accommodate living in such a nation just fine.

Btw the Democratic Party does not give me everything I want. For example I want single payer so all of God’s people receive the same adequate and affordable health care coverage. Christ said to care for the sick. To me I believe that means everyone equally. Yet not only did we not get single payer, but we didn’t even get a public option. So don’t sit here and say the Democratic Party gives me all I want. You would be wrong. Someone yesterday said I want free Twinkies and free condoms. The last Twinkie I recall having was deep fried at the county fair which I paid for and not that it’s anyone’s business about my condom use or lack there of or need for one, free or not … but oh nevermind.

I’d vote for Santorum, but this country is scared of faithful Catholics like him. He dares to bring up topics they don’t want to discuss. Remember how he was called a racist and vilified for stating the fact that abortion has greatly hurt the black community and the disproportionate number of black babies that are aborted?

The GOP has not learned from the previous election that consevatives are not going to take it anymore. They are still not listening. Instead, they continue to try and appeal to moderates while attempting to hold onto conservatives by pointing to their party platform. But It is action, not lip service that conservatives want. And the time has come when they will not settle for anything less. Barack Obama is President of the United States -not because of a popular vote. He is President because the GOP failed to support a candidate that was true to it’s own platform.

CBS News has posted a cleaner version of Santorum’s remarks, and it seems as though Santorum did not actually say “black people’s lives,” but rather, that he stumbled in mid-sentence with a verbal tic that sounded like that.

“I don’t want to make…mmbligh…people’s lives better” is what it sounds like to me, although CBS News also transcribes it as “”make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money.”

Given the preceding context, in which he talks about the government trying to get more Iowans enrolled in Medicaid, the former explanation makes much more sense than the latter.
