not heavy metal… but if you like deeply poetic words (sometimes very catholic (always christian)) screamed over heavy music try: mewithoutYou.

CD “Brother, Sister” is one of the most amazing cds i’ve ever heard.

God bless,
Collin

Thanks, I will look them up.

mewithoutYou: Definitely not heavy metal…Though their first album was rather abrasive.

I second this though. Both Brother Sister and Catch for Us the Foxes are tremendously good imo. The drummer is Catholic, and the vocalist seems to be leaning towards Catholicism or at least Holy Orthodoxy.

When discussing Catholic Metal bands, Horde and Crimson Moonlight are 2 of the biggest in the world. Horde practically founded the Catholic Metal genre. Their only album is Hellig Usvart and it was a pioneer in the early 90s. Crimson Moonlight has 2 albums right now, The Covenant Progress and Veil of Remembrance. They are both very good.

This Beautiful Republic is a good Christian Rock Band. I don’t think it would be considered as heavy metal though. You can listen to samples at Amazon.com.

I can answer “YES” to this question. Has anyone heard of the Catholic rock group Katholicus? These guys really rock! 👍 They advertize themselves as having the “melodic hard rock/metal sounds of the 1980s and early 90s with a modern twist.” They definitely have catchy melodies over hard-driving guitars, and have a commercial sound.
They just released a new cd called “Upon This Rock.” The guitar playing is as good as any secular rock group with great guitar solos and double leads. Some of their songs sound like the popular metal bands of the 80s, which I used to listen to for years.

You can hear two minute samples of their songs from here: www.cdbaby.com/cd/katholicus2

I’ve also heard a couple of their songs played on Catholic Jukebox.com, but I know of only one other person who has their music.

If you like Christian Blues, try listening to Glen Kaiser or Darrell Mansfield. They’re not Catholic, but Glen is also the guitarist and vocalist for a Christian (Protestant) hard rock band called Rez (aka Rez Band and formerly known as The Resurrection Band).

Glen and Darrell have worked on blues since the early nineties. Glen has also been the frontman for Rez and he’s been at it since the 70’s. He’s got a real gritty voice and he’s a very good songwriter.

Being raised Protestant, I was into the Christian heavy metal/hard rock scene for years. I was a big fan of Stryper. PM is you want any other info. Unfortunately, I’m not as familiar with Catholic music though - there doesn’t appear to be much in Catholic based hard rock music.

CSJ

not sure if they are catholic or not but Kutless is a strong christian metal band. I must second the suggestion of Skillet and Disciple

THIRD DAY!!! They’re not Catholic, but very Christian. I love those guys!

Matt Maher…VERY Catholic…

3rd CD is harder than first and second

Nope…none of the above are Catholic, but I like some of their music as well.

CSJ - thanks for clearing things up 🙂 I wasn’t sure what denomination they were.

I saw Disciple live in concert last week. Great concert! The lead singer spent a lot of time preaching. I guess I should of guessed then and there they were more on a Pentecostal side.

I’m just a sucker for a guitar and drums.

I never saw Disciple, but I used to be a big fan of Stryper, White Heart, Petra and a bunch of other Christian music. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been “in the loop” - hard to keep up with the increasing commercialism. Then again, maybe I’m just getting old.

I am in to heavy metal… :banghead:

It is difficult to find a metal band that isn’t downright offensive, let alone Christian. Most of them are not very good, either.

If anyone knows of a good Christian, or better yet specifically Catholic metal band, please let me know who they are. I would be eternally grateful.

:blessyou:

My favorite group is Dream Theater. They are considered progressive metal and, while not specifically religious, they are more than just loud and fast. One of the band members is a practicing Catholic and two others are Christian. They are possibly the most talented musicians I have ever heard.

Here is their home page for anyone wanting to check it out.
seriously? i remember dream theater from back in the day; i didna know they were christians.

wow thanks everyone i’ve found some awesome bands thanks to y’all 😃
