It is the opposite of that kind of pride. The pride comes in supporting yourself and your family and NOT asking for help from “the government,” which is really just money forcefully taken from your fellow citizens. Will, a couple of generations ago black folks were certainly in a different situation weren’t they? But those were the “good ole’ days” right?
Everyone needs help sometimes. Why should someone feel ashamed to receive assistance from the government? You seem to be speaking highly of this “pride”, which I see as shame and sin. “Oh, I’m too good to receive food stamps! I’m not like THOSE people.”
Satan fell due to his pride you know.
You’re right.I think you’ll find [discriminate] an accurate term when referring to “policies that take factors including ‘race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin’ into consideration.” There is nothing loaded about the term. We all discriminate based on many different factors. It’s the way decisions are made.
I typically discriminate against willfully stupid people.Got it. No pious notions on CAF.
Btw…since Ringil felt compelled to provide a definition of “racism,” perhaps you can have him look up “discriminate” for you. I think you’ll find it’s an accurate term when referring to “policies that take factors including ‘race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin’ into consideration.” There is nothing loaded about the term. We all discriminate based on many different factors. It’s the way decisions are made.
There are actually good reasons to forcefully take money from our fellow citizens - supporting an army, and providing fire and police services are examples of such “theft.”help from “the government,” which is really just money forcefully taken from your fellow citizens.
But that is about the extent of it, Rich. That is what the Constitution gives the government the power to do, not to provide people a means of daily living. Surely you can agree that welfare is abused these days? And that we as Christians have a direct responsibility to care for widows and orphans and not have that responsibility removed from us by the state or federal government? There are actually good reasons to forcefully take money from our fellow citizens - supporting an army, and providing fire and police services are examples of such “theft.”
I don’t know. I’m against monetary reparations. I think affirmative action is enough for blacks or anyone else. Why should your tax dollars or mine be used to support generations of people who are certainly able to work? Why? Is that part of the reparations that we owe black Americans for slavery?
I’m not a statistician nor an actuary, so I can’t answer these questions.Give me a quantification of how much we owe black Americans alive today, considering that none of them have ever experienced slavery and none of us alive today have ever held slaves. How much and for how long? Or until what point, and how will we know we have gotten there?
Yes, but that’s an entirely different topic.Surely you can agree that welfare is abused these days?
I believe that the churches will not replace the government in this endeavor for both financial reasons and because their congregants will generally oppose it.And that we as Christians have a direct responsibility to care for widows and orphans and not have that responsibility removed from us by the state or federal government?
Ducking again. I do not care when you fell off the turnip truck. My position: Affirmative action refers to policies that take factors including “race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin” into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group, usually as a means to counter the effects of a history of discrimination.
vz71;8410259:
Well, that sounds like a good definition of what it is.
Do you believe it is right to discriminate based upon these factors?
Rich Olszewski;8410284:
There’s your trying to introduce a loaded term like “discriminate.” Don’t bother. I didn’t fall off the turnip truck yesterday and don’t buy into your pious notions of “truth” and “prejudice.”
Perhaps you do not realize, you ARE answering those questions. [now if only you would answer my question…]I don’t know. I’m against monetary reparations. I think affirmative action is enough for blacks or anyone else. I’m not a statistician nor an actuary, so I can’t answer these questions.
Your attempt to connect me with those organizations is insulting and fails. Please feel free to talk to the wall. However, there are some sitting on the sidelines comfortably throwing rocks at the morality that condemns color based prejudice while at the same time trying to distance themselves from the uncomfortable position of admission to a club previously reserved for Nazi’s, the Klan, the Taliban, the Black Panthers, etc.
Now, now. The various parts of the GOP also have their constituents on whose votes they are counting. Like the Tea Party and their one note “Lower taxes.”The truth is affirmative action is the Democrats ticket to the black vote. Much like medicare is to the older folks, without it they lose those votes. When you are going to vote Democrat no matter what, you will stick to your opinions that something isn’t what it really is because you know without it, you have nothing else.
Yes, but that does in no way benefit me directly. There is nothing a politician could promise me to get his vote, unlike Democrats who would dig a ditch for the ditch digger to get his vote. Now, now. The various parts of the GOP also have their constituents on whose votes they are counting. Like the Tea Party and their one note “Lower taxes.”![]()
I think its called racial profiling.
So, it is right to discriminate against one group now that has never committed injustice because a group with the same skin color committed injustice in the past.
Or “Applying while white”I think its called racial profiling.
I think whether the “white man” has always been at the front of the line would depend on who, exactly, you consider “the white man” to be, where and when. But I don’t think one can realistically say that has always been the case everywhere. The white man has always been at the front of the line. Does he deserve that position in perpetuity?
What does it say about Democrats that they need to have voting blocs dependent on them in order to get their vote? Do they not have any confidence in their candidates and platform that they’ll just make the voters dependent on them? And what does it say for those voters that fall for it?The truth is affirmative action is the Democrats ticket to the black vote. Much like medicare is to the older folks, without it they lose those votes. When you are going to vote Democrat no matter what, you will stick to your opinions that something isn’t what it really is because you know without it, you have nothing else.
I’m surprised that none of those students were willing to donate just a few points of their GPA score to less fortunate students. What does it say about Democrats that they need to have voting blocs dependent on them in order to get their vote? Do they not have any confidence in their candidates and platform that they’ll just make the voters dependent on them? And what does it say for those voters that fall for it?
Now on the bake sale. Full disclosure: I’m Cuban-American, so I would be considered hispanic. I first heard about it on John Stossel’s program. Seriously, I think we went from one extreme to the other. From preferring only whites to preferring everyone but whites. How hard is it to look back and obey our founding documents “All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights…” It seriously makes me wonder if anyone is reading and obeying our founding documents.
This sounds like something my College Republicans group would love to do, we wouldn’t get the go ahead from our PC administration that’s all about not making other ethnicities feel bad. However, I do love the “grade redistribution” petition a College Republicans group did a while back. youtube.com/watch?v=lOyaJ2UI7Ss
