In John 6, there is no reason to assume that Jesus is speaking figuratively. Even when some of his followers question this teaching, what is His response? He did not say “This is what I really mean” He said “My flesh is true food and my blood is true drink” Even when He says we are to eat His flesh, the Greek indicates a very visceral image. What does He say to Peter? He does not explain to Peter, James and John the imagery of his metaphor? NO! He says “Will you also leave me?” If this was a metaphor, Jesus would have explained it clearly, as the Lord’s Supper is CENTRAL to the Christian Faith.
The idea of drinking any blood, let alone human blood, was repugnant to the religious leaders because the law forbade it (Leviticus 17:10-11). Jesus was not talking about literal blood. He was saying that his life had to become their own, but they could not accept this concept. The apostel Paul later used the body and blood inagery in talking about Communion. (Corinthians 11:23-26)

Why did Jesus’ words cause many of his followers to desert him? 1) They may have realized that he wasn’t going to be the conquering Messiah-King they expected. 2) He refused to give in to their self-centered requests. 3) He emphasized faith, not deeds. 4) His teachings were difficult to understand, and some of his words were offensive.

Where did my bible come form? Well according to the CC it came from them, so there is your answer.
You are quite correct. The Catholic Church is responsible for the codification of Scripture. Scripture was later mutilated by the removal of the so-called Deuterocanonical Books by protestants.

How about a priest who doesn’t think that whatever he believes is “obviously the truth,” simply because it happens to be in his mind, but takes the time to study and discern with an open mind, to discover that he doesn’t actually know everything, and that the 2,000 year old world-wide Church knows a few things that he doesn’t? 🤷
If he doesn’t believe it to be the truth but is told that it is the truth, how, in good concious and faith, can he tell others that it is the truth when he don’t believe it himself. He would be a hypocrite.

He could spend his discernment period coming to believe it, and undergoing a process of conversion to the truth, instead of making himself to be the standard of all truth. 🙂

Did you bother to read post 72 to see why I answered the way I did?
Crackers and Grape juice is the same as Wafer and Wine, we just chose the non-alcohol unlike the CC. I don’t know where you get you worped information about the way we tread the “grape juice and crackers” but we don’t trodd it underfoot nor do we dump it in the trash.
Show me where in Matthew 1:20 does the angel say it is forbiden to divorce? “As he considered (divorce) this, he fell asleep, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. Joseph, son of David. the angel said, do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary, For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit.” I don’t see anything about forbiding divorce.
Do you know the church I go to? Do you know the name of it? We do not disrespect Mary. Once again read post 72 to see why I answered this way.
Once again I don’t know where you get your twisted learning about us but we do believe in the Triniry. Again read post 72 to see why I answered this way.
Once again where do you get your twisted ways about us. We do not believe every man is his own Pope. Not all of us are self taught like you want to believe. Many of us have gone many years to a university or collage to study Scripture.
Thats your opinion.

He could, he could, but what if he don’t. You still did not answer my question? You are dancing around it.

Please make your own thread to discuss your problems with Catholic dogma!

Where did my bible come form? Well according to the CC it came from them, so there is your answer.
Why are you dodging the question? You don’t know the answer do you? Don’t worry I didn’t either until 3 years ago.
I never said the things you are saying.Any one who believes and is Baptized will be saved which you will never loose but you can loose salvation and Baptism don’t guarentee salvation. Works + faith is necessary. Grace is a gift from God that we can accept or not. God’s gift of grace.
I don’t know for sure it the CC stoped the horrable things but I have my doubts that they did.
??? What? are you saying here. Please clarify.
Why would I leave weekly communion, because I don’t believe its the real body of Christ.
😦
Divorce is not accepted but lets be honest, divorce happens, even Joseph was going to divorce Mary.
:(, Joseph and Mary were Jewish and it was a MUCH DIFFERENT scenario. It was legal and they did not have relations. You’re a preacher? And you don’t know these basic things? Really, I’m genuinely shocked at your lack of historical knowledge about Jewish law and customs.
Women not having leadership rolls, Mary the mother of Jesus does and the last time I read she was a woman. Where does it say a woman can’t sing solo?
The bibles tells women to be silent in worship. So why then do you diverge from it? I’m showing you how other Protestants interpret the scriptures. In fact this was the norm for many years in the Catholic Church, until the dissenters got hold of things. The dissenting Protestants took it as a license to go wild as well. Like contraception, the Protestants started buying into it one at a time dropping like flies.
The elders do but they also involve the whole congregation after all they are the ones who are going to hear the message from the pastor.
But the elders are responsible for the flock and therefore will answer to God, not the congregation. Elders in our the churches of Christ are there for life or until they resign for whatever reason or if they publicly sin or divorce.
If you commit a mortal sin could you not loose your salvation? Where does it say salvation is guarenteed.
The trinity is not a name in the Bible but its used.
Laugh it up all you want it don’t hurt me none. But its not Christian like.
And you are ignoring the message I’ve given you. I can see you’ve had enough. Probable too much for you to answer. It’s a good thing you on here. You can learn what you never learned in the first place. Catholic seminaries didn’t taught apologetics so you can hide behind that smoke screen. I know, I am a former seminarian too and know the difference. I can see I’ve stumped you and you don’t have any ground to stand on. It’s sad to see a fallen brother put blinders on before the race is finished. I hope you take off those shades before its all over for your own sake. I too was once like you and know the problems of where you’re standing. I ate so much crow coming back home that I still am wiping the feathers off my face. :o

REPENT! as Peter says. I say this because all of God’s baptized children are called to evangelize. Some do it by example and small acts of kindness, others scream it out at the top of their lungs, like me. Coming back home is not as difficult as you may think. All you have to do is go to your local parish priest and tell him your situation. Whatever chased you away from the Church? Pride and confusion is sounds like to me, very similar to my story? If you choose God’s mercy it will be the best choice you’ve ever made. My family is very happy now and we have found peace in knowing the truth in the fullness of faith that is in the Catholic Church.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink. I hope you find your fill before you die of thirst.

Before my conversion to the True Church, I attended many protestant churches, including Baptist and when the “Lord’s Supper” was held and the church was emptied, the floor would be littered with tiny cubes of bread and little plastic thimbles used to contain the grape juice. It is a good thing that it truly was NOT the Body and Blood of Our Lord lest there be a great sacrilege.

Nowhere did I say anything about the Angel forbidding divorce, I merely commented that it was good that God did tell St. Joseph not to divorce our Blessed Mother.

No, I do not know what church that you attend, but I am fairly sure that it is not Catholic. protestants disrespect the Mother of God by making statements like “Mary was just an ordinary woman”, “God could have chosen anyone”, Mary had other children", “Mary is dead”, “God created no human sinless”, Catholics worship Mary" etc.

Do Baptists believe that there is a difference between mortal and venial sin? You didn’t answer that one.

My brother-in-law is a Missionary Baptist “minister.” He has not attended any seminary, he learned “monkey-see-monkey-do”. He enjoys equal status with other protestant "ministers. How is it that protestants can attend seminary for many years and STILL get it wrong?

The status of apostate Catholics is doubtful. It is the unchanging teaching of the Church that once the Truths of the Church have been known to an individual, apostacy puts that unrepentant person in danger of hellfire. Not my “opinion”, simple fact. Sorry not to be PC.

I don’t know for sure it the CC stopped the horrible things but I have my doubts that they did.
Which horrible things?
Why would I leave weekly communion, because I don’t believe its the real body of Christ.
Then you are blind to the very words of Christ Himself. You are correct in one respect though. Crackers and grape juice do not constitute the Body of Christ, especially when they are trodden underfoot and dumped into the trash.
Divorce is not accepted but lets be honest, divorce happens, even Joseph was going to divorce Mary.
It is a good thing that God stepped in then, isn’t it?
Women not having leadership rolls, Mary the mother of Jesus does and the last time I read she was a woman. Where does it say a woman can’t sing solo?
Then why is the Mother of God disrespected in your “church?”
The elders do but they also involve the whole congregation after all they are the ones who are going to hear the message from the pastor.
If you commit a mortal sin could you not loose your salvation? Where does it say salvation is guaranteed.
When did Baptists begin to differentiate between “mortal” and “venial” sin? Baptist teaching says that all sin is equal.
The trinity is not a name in the Bible but its used.
Then Baptists do not believe in the Holy Trinity, because the term is not found in the Bible, correct?
Laugh it up all you want it don’t hurt me none. But its not Christian like.

Why protestantism and particularly Baptists become illogical is when they mutilate the clear meaning of Scripture if it does not fit their cherished beliefs or is just too blatantly “Catholic.” You believe that Scripture is inerrant, but twist meanings and interpret Scripture individually. "Every man his own Pope. Every self-taught, small-town “preacher” is a purveyor of his own brand of “scripture.” Sad. You have traded your birthright, “rev” kevin, for a mess of pottage.
👍

Guys, we all need to work on our spelling. I found myself correcting misspelled words.😊

Show me where Jesus said he is starting the CC.
Jesus said He would establish ONE Church until the end of times. The Bible verse where He said that I believe is on this site. Click on encyclopedia up there on the top part of the forum page and look it up. Otherwise I’ll post it myself.

Did it ever occur to you that your Bible is different from the Catholic Bible? Going by what your Bible says won’t help you. Christ did literally mean to eat His body and drink His blood.

That has never happened at my church I can assure you of that.

Show me where it say its his literal body and blood. So far everything we have discussed here has been in both Bibles mine and Catholic.

Jesus never said he started the CC he said he established one church. He didn’t say I am establishing one church the CC. Nope he never said that. Of course if I click on to this encyclopedia its going to tell me what the Catholics believe thats a no brainer. I could click on different encyclopedias and get something different.

hosemonkey;6542754:
Back your fact up
Lets see Mary was ordinary she made dinner, she cleaned close, she drew water, she did ordinary things that every woman did back then except for havng Jesus. Saying Mary had other children is not showing disrespect to her. She was married to a man, which by the way is also ordinary, so it would be logical she had relations with him because that is what God intended for married people to do. Well did Mary die, there is no mention of it in Greek Scripture, Just like there is no mention of Josephs death. The only mentioned who was sinless was Jesus.
Mary was ordinary in many ways. However, she was a virgin and a virgin for life. Even if she planned to have relations with Joseph why would she? Do you know the story about Moses. What did Moses do after he saw God at the burning bush? He separated himself from his wife…he became celibate. Why is it so hard for you to accept the teaching that Mary remained a virgin for the rest of her life? Because you can’t imagine a man holding his urges. I believe that if the brothers and sisters spoken of in the bible are in fact translated correctly then it was step brothers and sisters. But I really believe it means something different, maybe cousins. But even my own previous faith taught that it really didn’t matter either way. They at least were able to express it in terms of either way.

Would you say that Moses was ordinary? You apparently do not know the customs of Jews during that time as well. It was not uncommon for virgins to make vows of virginity for the rest of their life while taking on a husband. They served that husband in every way except “servicing them”. [edited] Just for a moment…imagine being told by an angel of God that you are to marry Mary anyway in spite of the fact you were planning on divorcing her. Okay. Now think about this…you are not only told by and angel of God that you are to Marry her but also that she will bear the Son of God…:eek::eek: … tell me…honestly… would you dare have sex with her without specific instruction from God?.. I hope not… [edited] Mary is the Mother of our Lord and Savior. She conceived a son by the power of the Holy Spirit. Yet you think sex is inevitable and uncontrollable. Hmmmn. [edited]
