Actually, scholarship for a long time showed the age of bethrothal and marriage for a girl in Arabia was the same for any other girl in the surronding cultures–about the ages of 13-14 (which we can presume was the age of the BVM when she was betrothed to Joseph). Young by our standards, but an age when girls are becoming women–and actually STILL considered by many cultures an acceptable age–I cant think of ONE, off hand, where a girl is expected to not just be bethrothed, but have sex with a husband when she hasnt even reached puberty. With all due respect, at the time Muhammad married a 9 year old, the culture of that time did not regard it as pedophilia (though in OUR culture, WE most certainly do regard it as such!)
Lord, have mercy.i agree. i was a bit puzzled when i read her last post, but now that i go back and see this one too:

I just don’t know what to do with you. Did you not read what I said? That I know the mufassireen say it refers to Christians? Nor am I disputing the conclusion they have drawn. I am merely pointing out that it does not, nor need not only refer to Christians, which is a point that really needs to sink in. There have been volumes written on the Tafsir of Surat al-Fatihah… it’s very complex, very beautiful, and really you do no justice trying to fix the interpretation to a single idea when in fact many apply. Are you better than the Islamic authentic mufassireen…
English:-
Arabic:
- Tafsir al-Jalalayn:
“…of those against whom there is wrath, namely, the Jews, and nor of those who are astray, namely, the Christians.”- Tafsir Tanwir al-Miqbas min Tafsir Ibn ‘Abbas:
“(Not of those who earn Thine anger), not the religion of the Jews who earned Your anger, whom You forsook and whose hearts You did not protect until they became complaisant. (Nor of those who go astray), nor the religion of the Christians who erred from Islam.”
And that’s exactly what is being taught in our Saudi education system
- Tafsir Ibn Katheir:
سألت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن قوله تعالى " غير المغضوب عليهم " قال " هم اليهود " " ولا الضالين " قال : " النصارى هم الضالون "
- Tafsir al-Jalalayn:
. “غير المغضوب عليهم” وهم اليهود “ولا” وغير “الضالين” وهم النصارى
- Tafsir Altabari:
- Tafsir Alkurtubi:
فالجمهور أن المغضوب عليهم اليهود , والضالين النصارى

Anybody who does not accept Islam is considered to be "astray!Sure, some of the mufassireen do favor that interpretation sure, but it doesn’t say Christians, does it? It says those who are astray which is much more broad. Even Muslims can be ‘astray’ (and some are!)![]()
For one thing, you would not need to receive baptism again. You received it once and for all!I’ve been Catholic for 17 years & recently became interested in Islam. I have 2 questions:
If I did convert to Islam & wanted to go back to the Catholic church, would I have to receive all the sacraments again?
- Would it be wrong to practice Islam & pray the Azan 5 times daily if I am Catholic?
- Is it possible to be a muslim & a Catholic?
Thanks–Asalaamu Ailaikum
Tahirah![]()
Why would a catholic forum be the wrong place for a CATHOLIC to ask questions?I think that this is the wrong forum for you to ask these kind of questions.
You should go here instead.
Why do you think that is?Anybody who does not accept Islam is considered to be "astray!

It is. I apologize for not checking first. You might consider the fact that you did not check first before posting your original claim either, and that your error was far more serious, since you were implying something about another Christian ecclesial community that is the opposite of the truth.Errm, i think you missed out on what i posted after the initial post:
Its always wise to double check, you know.![]()
Thanks Ralph.Sister Amy,
Thank you for being upfront that the two faiths cannot be practiced by the same person. There are Muslims in the world who would say otherwise.
Dear Sam,Fellow Christians, pray for our sister “ZuzuBailey”, I think she is facing a very tough times, read the following and connect the dots…
Same as the devil in our view. Even the serpent in the garden of Eden in Genesis couldn’t go further than what God allowed him to…When I said “original” I meant the original Hebrew of the Masoretic text (Jewish Bibles have English on one side and Hebrew on the other.) The LXX (Septuagint) was written in Greek, not Hebrew.
And FTR Judaism has never believed in “devils” as Christianity does. We do believe in a satan (Hebrew word for adversary), but he has no power apart from what God allows him to have (see the Book of Job for a good example of how authentic Judaism sees him.)
Me too.Dear Sam,
You are really a kind person, brother. You, yourself, perhaps not in the favourable condition saying this, and yet you still have time observing others, and pray for others. Not only we will pray for sister Zuzu, we will pray for you too.![]()

Would you please tell us what you think Jesus’ real message to be?Thanks Ralph.
I’ve heard some Christians say you can be Muslim and Christian at the same time. Truthfully, I do believe that I am a better Christian as a Muslim because I more truly follow what I believe was the message of Jesus. But I don’t think a person could really say that there is no god but God, and Muhammad is His messenger, and still consider himself to be a Catholic in the way I understand it, or really any kind of Christian in the world today. Likewise, a person could not participate in the rituals of Catholicism with sincerity without violating fundamental tenets of Islam.
But these are theological, rather than moral differences.![]()

Why do you think that is?
Brother lapell,I guess she made little mistake.Azan isn’t prayer but a call(or invitation)for prayer.5 times(morning before sunrise, midday, afternoon, just after sunset in evening&at night)muazzins(callers for islamic pray)in every mosque do it.Then muslims go to mosque for group prayer, its called jamaat prayer. So azan is a call for prayer not the prayer.Hope it helps.Bless youWhat’s the Azan prayer said 5 times?
Do you think that non-Catholics have been guided or are astray? Why do you think that is?
