Cooking experiments gone bad

How weird, that SOUNDS like it could have been good. Broth with rice…sounds doable. :o

I think the problem I have with cooking…is I get distracted…I make a phone call, or start emailing someone…and then I smell dinner burning. lol I have noticed that when I stay in the kitchen…flipping through a magazine…and keeping one eye on what’s happening…my dishes are not as disastrous. Thankfully my husband wasn’t interested in marrying a cook for a wife!😃
Aaaahhhh. For good cooking you need to find your “Zen” – peace of heart, gentle attention. It’s a contemplative art where you interact with your ingredients on a primal level.

And it sho’ don’t hurt to know what you’re doing technically. Once you know how egg whites work and know how much liquid the mushrooms will release and the ratio of flour to butter in the roux, things move along much better.

But you DO need to pay attention.

Sorry I can’t comment. My husband never, compliments me on my cooking…but if his mother made (******) it would be the best he ever tasted.

or his talented ex-wife. She was the perfect cook, perfect mother and kept a spotless house, but couldn’t keep a job.
DH will eat anything I cook. However, he will nearly ALWAYS say, “You know what would make this REALLY good? MUSHROOMS!”

So whenever I think up something new to make, I make sure I have a box of mushrooms to put in it.

You know, I can cook some things…and cook them really well. But, then, I try to experiment and things just go haywire. I have been trying to experiment with some new vegetarian dishes, when hubby has to work evenings. (because he typically won’t eat them:p )

So…tonight, I thought that gnocchi’s, butternut squash, chopped onions all sauteed together, with a small dab of tomato sauce, and ricotta cheese would be soooo good.

It was really pretty bad. I don’t know what went wrong.:sad_yes:

I’ll tell you what went wrong. Butternut Squash! Icky poo pie!
Everything else sounds good.

OK. Ya wanna take this outside? :slapfight: I will have no maligning of one of nature’s most delicious autumn benisons! (Roasted and mashed with a little honey and thyme . . . MMMMMMMMM.)

that’s hilarious…icky poo pie. lol
I love butternut squash, but with the gnocchis …it was just downright weird. Not horrible…just a really strange taste.

Edible. Barely. 😃

ROFL!!

With a name like squash, it sort of creates a terrible mental image.:o

What’s an autumn “benison”?
Is that like…uh…deer or something??

(kidding…)

oh come on…you people haven’t had good butternut squash recipes…ignore the one i posted about. lol:D done correctly, it’s yum!

When my oldest was little, he thought he could make Orange Juice by microwaving his Orange Freeze Pop…

That’s a nice mess:rolleyes:

I don’t know if this counts but I have a bad habit of experimenting with coffee. You see, my DH often will finish off the milk before grocery day leaving me with nothing to put in my coffee for a day or two and I can’t drink it black. In desperate desire for my daily caffine fix I’ve tried a number of alternatives to milk or cream. Here are some things you shouldn’t put in coffee:
-cool whip
-melted marshmellows
-breastmilk

the coolwhip was particularly vile 😛

LOL! Breastmilk, I would think, would be a close second! ew!
Coolwhip, I have tried that, too…and it’s sooo bad. I don’t know why though?

Have you tried half and half? I like just a splash, and it’s better than milk, really. (for java)

BREAST MILK???

In COFFEE???

TMI !!!

:bigyikes:

Ok, that definitely tops bread tombstone story, no question.
