Yeah, but that shouldn’t be any grosser than those non-dairy artificially-flavored Coffeemate creamers that are sold in the dairy case. DH loves those things. I think they’re disgusting. To each his own, I guess. 🤷

If you’re not planning to drive after the coffee, Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur makes a really nice creamer substitute. 😃

I have made chicken in a crock pot…and it came quite good, but tell me, why doesn’t cream of mushroom soup work…does it burn and stick to the sides?
I’ve used cream of mushroom many times and it always tastes good. No problems. Maybe the soup had gone bad:confused:

they come in a box? I just have cans. that should tell you something about my skill level
Buy the fresh sliced mushrooms from the produce section and saute them yourself or even just use them raw. They taste so much better than the canned ones.

The fresh ones come in those shrink wrapped boxes in the veggie department. I also keep a couple of cans for emergencies. They’re not so bad in soups and casseroles.

I am a recovering “Julia Child” cook – just learning about the wonderful world of easy prep with semi-prepared ingredients and mixes. I bought a box of Bisquik! (Do I have to confess that?)

And the really fresh ones (that I can’t get here in Illinois, only ever seen in towns where mushrooms are grown) were loose and you hand picked your mushrooms and put them in a wooden box that the store supplied… My dad was the mushroom king… he would examine every one before he decided to keep it or not… but ohhhh his cooking!!!

:coffeeread:
I don’t know if this counts but I have a bad habit of experimenting with coffee. You see, my DH often will finish off the milk before grocery day leaving me with nothing to put in my coffee for a day or two and I can’t drink it black. In desperate desire for my daily caffine fix I’ve tried a number of alternatives to milk or cream. Here are some things you shouldn’t put in coffee:
-cool whip
-melted marshmellows
-breastmilk

the coolwhip was particularly vile 😛
Breastmilk :bigyikes: http://bestsmileys.com/paranoid/2.gif

Can you believe this…
I bought a Mrs Smith pumpkin pie to bake, and take for today’s work Thanksgiving luncheon. I am eating it now, and I didn’t cook it enough. This is going to be embarassing.

So, add this to the thread. This only required me turning on the oven, and putting the pie in it!:whacky: :ouch: :crying: These are people I work with–they are going to be like…ok, sharon told me this wasn’t homemade…lol…and she just had to bake it.

I know this is too late, but next time, avoid Mrs. Smith’s. Go to (let’s see, Florida) Winn-Dixie, Piggly Wiggly, Safeway or Publix. Each of these places has a bakery, and at this time of year, they have a bakery full of prebaked pumpkin pies.

When some people travel, they see the sights. I love to go through the grocery stores.

OHHH- Also get an oven thermometer and check your oven temp. It might be off.

Really! That is good to know…My dh picked this pie up for me…I thought Mrs Smith’s would be good…it’s ok, but again, think I coulda cooked it longer. I must see this at Publix, then…the prebaked pies…I have never noticed that ever.

Good 2 know!👍 Grazie bella!

That’s because Coolwhip is sodium casenate and oil.

I used to keep two or three cans of evaporated milk in the house for this purpose, “just in case.” Now that I have my pantry, I have a case of evap. milk.

Did you know that in Iceland they use egg yolks or butter in coffee? Butter I can understand. It’s cream gone very, very beaten. Egg yolks?.

Prego. Publix has the best bakery in all fifty states in my opinion, excepting cannoli and southwestern baking. Southwestern baking can’t beat HEB in Texas. Cannolis really need to come from a home kitchen or a good Italian bakery.

Hmmm…we could do a lot of damage together, I think…lol I TOTALLY agree about cannolis. I am a little tenative to make them at home…but if you find the perfect Italian bakery (like the women don’t speak English kind lol)…you are in for a treat!!

I can’t believe the cannolis I have had in my life from so so bakeries…making them with whipped cream and not ricotta cheese ?

Mama mia!😃

OutChgBurbs,
Me too! My idea of seing the sights is to find indoor markets and eat my way across the country…

We have this great (but sooo expensive, so I don’t visit often) market here called Central Market that has all kinds of gourmet foods, a fresh fish and seafood area about a mile long, lots of shiny decorations for cookies and things, and I think every olive, olive oil and bread known to man. It’s heaven on earth.

For those in west palm beach area in florida…have you heard of carmine’s? When I visit my sis in Jupiter, we go there…it’s a gourmet Italian place. I like it, but some things are still not quite like Joisey. :o Nothing like Italian food in NJ or NY!!!😉

I admit, I visit grocery stores on vacation, too! I love seeing what’s available in one area that’s not in another. I’ve been grocery shopping in France, Japan, Thailand, and Taiwan, as well as Korea and Canada. I even buy non-perishables to put in my luggage if they have something particularly good. 😊

Or the Philly area… we had mom & pop shops every block or so… this is where I introduced my kids to cannolis… the Italian market in Philly is the best I have ever had… yes to ricotta…
