meltzerboy2 . . .
It sure sounded like Trump did mean injecting disinfectant into the human body.
It was inappropriate.

But he was almost certainly trying to talk about antibiotics, but if he uses the word “antibiotics” he knows people will criticize him for using the term “antibiotics”.

They will just run him down saying: “Doesn’t this guy even know that antibiotics don’t kill VIRUSES but rather bacteria!”

(That’s exactly WHY I said "anti-viral antibiotics like Tamiflu" otherwise I would have heard the same critical comments here about me as well.

In other words, it doesn’t matter what Trump says. The leftist press criticizes him.)

He suggested that doctors present should look into disinfectant injections and uv light in the body( somehow?)
That is one interpretation.
Another is that he was just putting out avenues of research he would like more information on.

Either way, it is something he should have been better prepared for.

The only misdirection is the endless attempts to try to salvage something out of one of the most idiotic statements I’ve ever seen a President make.

niceatheist . . . .
Injecting cleaning fluids is an avenue of research?
Injecting IV or IM antibiotics is always an ongoing avenue of research.

He mentions this innovative therapy re uv light nfusion ,asks Dr Birx to look into it and that’s misdirected.? Please the bias against anything Trump is wearing beyond thin.He also never mentioned pine sol

He said he was being “sarcastic.” So he “knew” it was a dumb idea.

The president was asked about spreading these kind of sarcastic rumors via his briefing. His response?
“I’m the president and you’re fake news.”

From another thread:
And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me.
(my bold)

And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning?
Looks like a question.
Not a suggestion.

Do you have an exact quote to indicate “the man seriously suggested injecting disinfectant into the human body to kill the virus.”?

President Trump didn’t “suggest” anything. He asked questions for goodness sake.
Is that like when my mom would ask me if I would mind taking out the garbage? It was a question. But what do you think would have happened if I said no?

When people in power phrase something as a question, most people know that they are politely being told to do something. I know, I know, that makes it their fault and our fault for thinking that hierarchy is in place here, not Trump’s fault

Do you have an exact quote to indicate “the man seriously suggested injecting disinfectant into the human body to kill the virus.”?
I didn’t say that so I don’t. I gave you the exact quote of what he said live, on camera.

He asked a question, and it was foolish question, as to whether doctors could explore injecting disinfectants. As I said, he may as well have asked NASA if it was possible to send an astronaut to the center of the sun. It’s on that level of stupidity.

And how he back-pedals by saying he was being “sarcastic”. No, he was being dumb. He should have thanked the scientists for their presentation on what, after all, were practical steps to disinfect surfaces suspected of being contaminated, and then perhaps ask them how the search for a vaccine was progressing and how the clinical trials were doing (not so well as it happens), and asked if there was anything the government could do to help accelerate the research towards a vaccine or treatment.

Like I said.

I don’t know what he meant.

But I know what he DIDN’T mean.

When people in power phrase something as a question, most people know…
Right. He didn’t say what people are claiming, but we all ‘know’…

Sounds like bias talking more than logic.
He asked a question, and it was foolish question, as to whether doctors could explore injecting disinfectants.
Exactly.
He didn’t, at any time indicate “the man seriously suggested injecting disinfectant into the human body to kill the virus.”

That so many of you actually believe Trump said to ingest or inject household disinfectant.
To quote Maximus1:
He suggested injections of disinfectant as a potential cure.
He then told the doctors to basically look into the efficacy of his idea.
Let me ask you honestly, didn’t you feel terrible for doctors who are truly accomplished to be asked to nod and say ," wow, why didn’t I think of that. Brilliant.!"
Or," get right on that promising idea, drop everything and get on that."
At some point…
Too many of you have completely indoctrinated by left wing liberal nuts on DNC run media you can’t read a news report and use your own thinking to discern what it said.
It’s got nothing to do with left vs. right. It has everything to do with telling doctors to research one of the dumbest ideas to ever come from the mouth of the leader of one of the most powerful nations on earth.

Let me flip that statement of yours: “Too many of you have been completely indoctrinated by the right wing nuts on the alt-right run media that you can’t read a news quote and see one of the stupidest things ever said by a president of the USA”.
But then again you are the same people who want Joe Biden for President so I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised that you actually think Trump said to drink bleach or Lysol or whatever.
He didn’t say drink. He said to research injecting disinfectants, all corrosive, dangerous and poisonous chemicals that even my cat knows not to touch. I’m not from the US so I can’t vote there. But given the two candidates in question, both in their 70s, one of which is a greasy cheeseburger away from a heart attack and the other seems to be a slightly dotty “funny uncle” with roving hands, I’d be more inclined to vote for the presidential candidate with the best running mate.
