It is not immoral. Braces or breasts. That’s ridiculous.
Agreed. It’s getting to the point where I can’t go outside without wearing a sackcloth over my body to avoid anyone thinking I actually wanted to look pretty 😦

A really dull, bland sackcloth.

Come on, let’s be realistic. Getting DD breasts specifically to make more money as a stripper… quite possibly a bad idea sinwise.

Modifying body parts (braces, breasts) to look more or less normal and proportional to feel a little self-conscious about one’s “flaws” so one can laugh and enjoy life a little more… doesn’t seem so sinful to me.

You would do well to make sure your ankles are covered too, oh yeah don’t forget the square shaped shoes.😃

I agree it would imoral based on the sinful purpose.

Vanity some may think, it’s their body some think, i feel this operation can have moral implications, this makes the the intent of the person getting the operation the sole deciding factor which non of us can truly know.

What about a Breast Lift? They are not made any bigger just lifted up to where they were before the kids came along.

My wife has often said that if we had the money she would want a breast lift. From what I know, the “outside world” would not really ever know the difference but they would look better to her (and me). It is strictly cosmetic to look sexy, but only to her husband (me) and herself. Is this immoral in your (or anyone’s) opinion?
I don’t honestly see a problem with this. Like you said, it’s only for the two of you. IMO if God didn’t want a husband and wife to be attracted and want to be attractive to each other, then he would have developed a different way to reproduce.

After having 4 kids with another on the way, I know exactly how your wife feels!

If they are unnecessary; then yes. My teeth are crooked and I have never gotten braces simply because I do not need them. Also, your body is a temple of God and you shall not mar it, especially if you do unnecessary and, as such, foolish procedures.
Good for you that you are confident enough in yourself that you do not feel the desire to fix anything.

Not everyone is that lucky.

I had braces as a teen and I can tell you that my level of confidence increased 10 fold. If I had never gotten them, I can guarantee that I would not have had the confidence to attract the wonderful man that became my husband and father of my many children. How can that be a bad thing??

Also, are you also saying that if a woman has breast cancer and loses one of her breasts, she can’t have an implant to replace the lost tissue?? This would not be for sexual reasons, just to replace whats lost and balance her body.

Or what about women who remove healthy breasts because of a high genetic risk of developing breast cancer in the future?

Yes, it is immoral, since it is done for purely sexual reasons.
I have always gotten the feeling that the Catholic Church was against female beauty and physical attractiveness in principal because it is likely to arouse male lust. That’s why nuns and other female religious are supposed to dress simply and starkly, while the Pope and other high ranking (male) members of the Church have official garments that are elaborate and colorful.

Frankly when I see a Bishop or Cardinal standing next to nuns it reminds me of a male peacock sometimes.

Breast implants are absolutely immoral if they are done for cosmetic reasons. Cosmetic surgery is to look sexy, or to attract men. It’s purely based on sexual perversion and lust.
No it is not.

Plenty of straight men have had some sort of cosmetic surgery, and I doubt any of them did it to attract other males.

Furthermore, you are dead wrong about all cosmetic surgery being inspired by lust and a desire to be physically attractive to potential mates.

A man might have cosmetic surgery performed on his freakishly large nose, or a woman might have a doctor ‘fix’ her webbed feet simply because they don’t want to be regarded as freaks.

I wouldn’t say that the church is against female beauty. It often talks about how beautiful Mary was. I think the problem is that people have trouble distinguishing the difference between beauty and vanity.

There are rare cases when you need dental braces, there are absolutely no cases when you need breast implants. Plus, breast implants are usually done for purely sexual reasons. Also, I don’t have breast tissue and that doesn’t affect my life whatsoever, only with judgmental people. And, who wants to change themself for those who judge and criticize them?
Most people actually.

That’s why peer pressure is such a powerful force.

Why not?

The Virgin Mary doesn’t seem like a good example considering how sexless the Church has depicted her (thanks to the various Marian doctrines).

I agree.

There are plenty of cosmetic surgeries that have nothing to do with lust. Skin grafting for burn victims, for example.

Also, as some of us have stated, the desire for implants has nothing to do with attracting men (being already married). It would just be to fix a part of us that was lost while birthing and nursing babies. It would only be for husband and wife to share and not everyone else.

I don’t see anything wrong with wanting to be attractive to our spouse, there is nothing vain or sinful in that, since no one would even want to reproduce without that attraction. God made us this way on purpose and sex was his gift to us within the marriage covenant.

Beautiful and Sensual are two different things. The church doesn’t have a problem with beauty, that is all I’m saying.

And a very real one, which can’t always be dismissed by living in denial of one’s pain, using mental gymnastics (“being pretty inside is what matters!” and so on) to bandaid it over. The pain is still there, underneath, doing it’s damage.

Which is why I worry this “carry your cross” stuff can do a lot of damage when taken too far, making people feel they have to live in dispair and misery when solutions are available to lift their burden.

What are you, a lawyer trying to pretend to find fault where there is no fault? The poster you are replying to was not speaking of men getting cosmetic surgery or of people fixing defects.

What’s the different between beautiful and sensual? I submit that in regards to women, they’re synonyms.

As a woman this makes me angry to think that some men can not even look at us as a gender without thinking of sex. They view our attempts at beautifying ourselves as methods to become sexy instead of just trying to be pretty and feel good about how we look. Why is that? Did you know that most women dress up more to impress other women then men, we aren’t all doing it to attract men’s attention, we just want to feel good about ourselves as we should have the right to do! It’s not our fault if men can’t keep their thoughts clean.

If a man works out at the gym and tries his best to look fit and muscular, is that automatically seen in a sexual way, or just that he’s trying to be healthy and be happy with how he looks? Why can’t women be the same?

My 2 cents.

I think the point being made is that breast augmentation is not always done to attract men.

I find this debate very interesting. I have struggled with this issue myself. I was always on the smaller side and that didn’t bother me too much, but now after breast feeding several children, they are smaller then ever and don’t have a very desirable shape anymore.
My husband does not complain, but I still do find it effects our level of intimacy. I know it’s silly, but when I feel less attractive, I feel less inclined to intimacy. I know it makes a difference, because when I am pregnant or nursing, they regain their original size and shape and I am much more willing to to be intimate with my husband, because I feel more attractive.
It’s not that I want to get super giant fake breasts, all I want is to have a moderate size (maybe a B or C) and a decent shape, that makes me fit into my size of clothing better (I’m fairly tall and they don’t allow for tall flat women in many clothing designs) and makes me more confident for my husband. I have no desire to run around in low-cut tops and draw attention to myself.
This is where I find myself – I had 6 children in 18 years, breastfed all 6 for 2 1/2 to 3 years each, sometimes 2 at a time. That’s a lot of years of nursing and giving to the baby the nourishment that could have changed my small breasts into medium/large breasts. I am not longer the tiny-waisted darling I was. I would like to have breast enlargement surgery to supplement my size to a better match – I’m not fat or anything, but not unchanged by 6 pregnancies, even though I do a triathlon every 2 kids, swim a mile a day when the pool is available, etc. But I feel ‘mis-matched’ and would really feel more confident, less shy and embarrassed, if I had a little more, even if no one ever saw me naked again. Clothes, though I tend to dress modestly, would fit better if my 5’5’ 130 pound body had a little more padding on the top, you know? Is that so bad?

If a man is at the gym to for the sake of his appearance, he’s wanting to increase his sex appeal.

Its not that simple.

Better looking people are generally regarded as more charismatic than average looking or ugly people. Moreover a big muscular guy is usually seen as being more intimidating than a fat or scrawny one.

And its obvious that fat and ugly people are often discriminated against because of their appearance.
