Could anyone recommend a healing/blessed oil for me?

Perhaps you should visit the shrine.

Asking which would be a good shrine to get oil or water from does smack a little of superstition.

Please also remember that God might be telling you that this is not how He wants you to deal with the problem if you are not being healed. Sometimes what we want is not what He wants for us.

I can understand that given how many are seeking feel good solutions by way of what would be dubbed the black arts today. But, I’m really only inquiring as to whether there are other oils that the church recognizes that I’m not aware of. The oil of St. Anne’s Shrine is just the one my director gave me and I’ve been finding that as a sacramental that there are many others and I’m merely asking if anyone else has found them beneficial to their devotional needs. That some are taking it into the greater context of superstition, and then needlessly sticking to it, is just a bit silly. Hence, my frustration here.

I have, several times. Yet, for whatever reason you have going on, refuse to even listen to them and stick to a nonsensical argument of such a topic as being akin to superstition. Furthermore, I’ve not strayed into pottymouth as you say. I’m calling out a case of a user behaving like a troll as you’re doing exactly that. You keep on requiring specific documentation per Vatican law on the matter when it’s been shown that the church, by apparently approving of the use of such oils, approves of such as part of church practice and has for centuries. There’s no dealing with a person such as you as you refuse to hear an argument as you need others to submit to your own. Even if your approach is greatly flawed.

Andy, calling people anal rententive, saying they are committing sins, asking them to “get help” is as ad hominem pottymouth as it gets.

You’re requiring specific documentation to prove, per your own standards, an already recognized practice within the church. That’s legalism, a sin and are doing so per an unrealistic set of circumstances in light of such a demand. That is anal retentiveness. I grew up with a step father of a borderline personality and such behavior is very much indicative of such a thing. Yes, said all those things because your behavior here cries out as being true to such.

Andy you seem unaware of how to politely conduct yourself on a forum.

Try and tackle the ball not the man, for credibility provide references rather than your own personal authority, dont obsessively insist on having the last word, say nothing if you dont have anything further to say.

God bless.

I have along with others doing the same by providing links and offering their own arguments. So far, all you’ve done is shot out what is in your head and are the one in the wrong here. This is a question I posted and I’m merely responding to comments put upon it. That you keep on insisting that I’m committing superstition here when there’s no basis for that beyond your own stilted perspective is not proper decorum per the rules. If you wish this to be stopped, stop commenting and like I said, consider getting help. You display many characteristics of a person suffering a personality disorder by refusing to account for your own errors.

Thanks for posting this information, Father. 🙂

I know that it was meant for Andy’s benefit.

We have a lovely little shrine of La Salette, here in Southeastern Wisconsin, too, so I am interested in reading about anything else related to La Salette.

Thanks for sharing such a lovely and beautiful article regarding the spring water from La Salette.

Please Andy.
Your links did not address the somewhat superstitious practice of seeking multiple sacramental sources of blessed oil because the first one didnt seem to be efficacious for you.

As others have stated, by all means keep praying for healing but the answer is far more likely that God desires endurance rather than a chasing after more efficacious oil from more powerful or apposite saints.

Potty mouthing and hack psychoanalysing those who politely challenge us to think and love beyond our present limits is not constructive to anybody including yourself I kindly suggest.

I have nothing more to say if you dont get this.
God bless.

I would buy a 750ml bottle of olive oil at the store, have it blessed by a priest, then use it with as much FAITH as I could muster. Oil does not work without faith, but faith will work without oil. Both? Priceless!

You do realise, I trust, that with the shipments of Lourdes Water around the world, there are a vast many who use it who will never have the grace of going to Lourdes. How fortunate that we live in an era in which these people, nevertheless, are able to have provided to them what they may be – and often are – unable to obtain in person.

You also realise, I trust, that of those who use the water of Lourdes, only a very small percentage receive a physical healing – but that is not to say they that those who use it in faith do not receive a spiritual benefit.

Yes, you are correct that they are a great variety to sacramentals and articles of devotion. One person may prefer the Dominican Rosary with its 20 mysteries…another the Franciscan Rosary of Our Lady’s Seven Joys…another the Servite Rosary of Our Lady’s Seven Sorrows

One may prefer the Carmelite Scapular that honours Our Lady of Mount Carmel while another prefers the Red Scapular of the Lord’s Passion, the Trinitarian Order’s Scapular of the Most Holy Trinity, the Servite Order’s scapular of Our Lady of Sorrows or the Augustinian Order’s Scapular of Our Mother of Good Counsel…among some 18 approved scapulars

There are a number concerning both blessed oil and blessed water, actually. I presume the oil you are using from the Shrine of Saint Ann references the Blessed Sacrament Fathers since I have now understood you are American. It is also available at the Basilica of Sainte Anne de Beaupre in Quebec, if my memory still serves me.

I have previously spoken of the Saint Joseph’s Oil, which is tied to the Oratory of Saint Joseph in Montreal

There is also the oil of Saint Anthony, which is distributed by the Franciscan Fathers

https://www.franciscanmedia.org/ask-a-franciscan-what-is-st-anthony-s-oil/

In my younger years of priesthood, I was asked a number of times to bless oil in honour of Saint Serapion – the blessing for which is in the Roman Ritual. It used to be a reserved blessing for the Mercedarian Fathers but that was abrogated after the Council when we thankfully reformed the concept of reserved blessings

Happily in these days, I had several requests for wine to be blessed in honour of Saint John…a request I am always pleased to grant

Beyond that, if you experience being harassed by one or another poster, you should advise a forum moderator that you are being harassed, since the forum rule is very clear: “Catholics must be respectful of the legitimate religious preferences and practices of their fellow Catholics” which, in this case, involves your legitimate decision to use sacramentals that are approved by the Church and distributed by her Religious

Andy the amount of superstition opetating at Lourdes amongst visitors is also not insignificant. I pilgrimaged there last month.

Many old ladies process into the grotto and capture the dew on the walls with their hankies. Objectively that is silly. The water of Lourdes rises from a spring 4 metres away beneath their feet which is now sealed off and behind glass and leads to the taps located farther away.

Thats ok of course, everybody is on journey from darkness to light.

My small point here is that its a journey not a place of rest and devotion not grounded on objectivity easily goes off to unhelpful lala land that does nothing to spread the faith to new generations.
Blackfriar, Your assumption that the elderly collect dew due to superstition.

Could it actually be that the Blessed Virgin appeared there, and it’s the closest one can get ? And these elderly ( whom you scorn) are operating on a different spiritual level to yourself.

Here’s the thing about the elderly. Do you see how much more gentle, wise, quiet and calm the elderly are ?
Wisdom.

What about all the Holy Water from Fatima in the 100th Anniversary? I have some, it’s value is immense. And I will use it as gifts for those fighting illness.

Where does our water come from? Read Amos in the Old Testament. I believe condensation is described there, by the hand of God.

Please, don’t make my mistake of engaging with him. He’s a disturbed person using this forum as an outlet and will try to get your dander up and use you as he did me.

Amen Don Ruggero. And to give a little of this water as a gift can help someone so much. There is a shop here that sells little vials. It was such a blessing to find.

And my most valuable gift has been holy water from Fatima. Even the wrapper is special, because it’s from a place I would love to go, but unless by the Grace of God, won’t visit.

It’s the little things, these connect us with our faith,

It’s knowing this water or oil has a connection. Just like using Blessed Sacramentals.

I am sorry this thread turned out so badly.
You have nothing to feel badly about. The fault is not yours but another’s.

You have asked a perfectly legitimate question. What surprises me, as a priest, is the abject poverty of certain responses.

In any event, your spiritual director of whom you spoke, since he is also a priest, should I trust be able to offer advice more sage than you have received on this forum. I have a great devotion to both Saint Anne and Saint Joseph that stems from many decades…but I can understand your desire to familiarise yourself with what exists in the vast world of sacramentals.

I feel more foolish than anything else. People such as he are usually closet tetrads that are not folks that should be paid heed to. Yet, I allowed my ID to control my actions and submitted to his lack of common sense and his acting as a “friar.” But, thank you very much for your kind words as I truly did intend to explore, as you put it, the world of sacramentals as I find being able to use such in my devotion to be a blessing. It’s people of such an attitude that I suppose I should thank for my faith, really. Growing up I was under the thumb of my personality disordered step father and have found the scars left by the experience worthy of growing through. Even if at times it seems woefully petty in the experience.

I have spent a good deal of time in Lourdes over the years, during breaks in academic terms. I was glad to respond to the invitation to hear confessions, since I am able to hear in various languages.

The Blessed Virgin may not agree with you. She may be much more pleased with these “many old ladies” with their handkerchiefs and their child-like faith that, to you, appears silly.
