I am not being purposefully misleading, I genuinely find it remarkable that someone can’t change their mind - and it does seem strange be asked for documentary evidence when so much in Catholicism is to be taken on faith (i.e. with no supporting evidence)

At catholic school we were taught many things including and in no order, contraception was wrong, limbo, purgatory, masturbation, mandatory confession, hell - the very strong position I was taught in these (and to accept them as absolutes) have changed - many of the ‘evils’ we were taught have been lessened and that we should no longer take such a strident and 'old testament view of these - nor to read the bible literally on many things, adam and eve, jonah, noah etc,. etc. even genesis

I appreciate that I am mixing up the bible with Catholicism but that is easy to do
It isn’t a question of ‘changing the mind’.

Most of the things you bring up are either things that were never dogmatic teaching at all (limbo, the absolute 'literal interpretation of all the bible), or that some of your later teachers THEMSELVES misunderstood. Confession is still necessary for mortal sin. Contraception is still wrong. Masturbation is a grave evil, but because so many have (like you) been taught by INDIVIDUALS that it’s not so bad, those who have become habituated have a LESSENING of culpability. Doesn’t make the SIN less bad.

Again, it seems you have had some confusing ‘teaching’ of later years, and some generalized misunderstanding.

Luckily the internet is your friend. Go to the actual sites such as the Vatican, to EWTN, to New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia, to the Catechism of the Catholic Church–real, reputable Catholic teaching–and reclaim your Faith.

This is the Year of Faith!

There been thousands of gods through the centuries, that is not disputed - and no one can say if there is a true one god, it depends on one’s own belief system and is usually determined by your place of birth or your parent’s religion.

What is the name of the Christian God? and how do you explain the presence of Jesus to Jews and Muslims who do not see him as their god’s son - who is right?
Why do you say that no one can say if there is a one true God? Just because through history people have spoken of others?

Would you say there could never have been a Julius Caesar because there were so many other generals in history who served their country? That he was a ‘myth’?

How do you explain how so many people raised "Christian’ in countries that are heavily Christian now claim to be agnostics and atheists? You have shot your argument right in the foot there.

I

It’s not provocative I do mix the two up. I am a catholic person, bit critical of ot

Was not making an arguement, our religion had one god and a son of god religions have other gods, I see no reason why they can’t

This type of talk leads me to the question: Do you believe people made the belief in God or do you believe that God revealed Himself to us? How you answer that question will go to show if you really believe in the existence of God.

Not asking whether he would do so. Am asking whether he has the power to do so. Could the next pope say, “I know what JPII and Benedict said, but I disagree.”

I know that the immaculate conception of Mary and her assumption are dogmas that can’t be changed.

But does the teaching on women’s ordination really rise to that level? Is it a teaching that no Pope, or even an Ecumenical Council, could ever change?
No, he can’t, all such attempts are invalid.

I don’t understand this? Newbie here…reading and searching for answers. I saw the title to this thread and just heard about a woman being ordained in a town near me.

Not authentic teaching. Not authentic ordination.

Just because somebody uses a word like ‘ordination’ doesn’t make what is done ordination.

Suppose that my child went out into the garden, gathered up dirt (as children will do), made a mud pie, and proudly proclaimed that he had made a ‘chocolate pie’.

Even if he put it in my oven and then took it out, that wouldn’t make it into a real chocolate pie, right? Calling it chocolate won’t make it turn from mud into chocolate!

A poor, misguided woman with a distorted understanding of what a priest is. She needs our prayers that she will repent and return to the Church.
The women upon whom those disobedient bishops simulated ordination are in the same situation as the woman above.

History is littered with the wreckage of those who thought they knew better than the Church. Where are the Arians? The Albigensians? The Montanists? Gone and forgotten.

Where is the Church? Here. Grown in size and understanding but unchanged in the Faith. The Church led by St. Peter is the same Church that guides us today.

These are schismatic (e.g. a group that has broken from the Catholic Church). Any priest or bishop involved is automatically excommunicated. By their very act they separate themselves from the Church and God.

Schismatic is too kind. A schismatic is doctrinally unified with the Catholic Church, but does not submit under the Pope’s authority. “Schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him” (Code of Canon Law, 751).

These people would be more akin to heretics, who participate in “obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth which must be believed with divine and catholic faith” (ibid). The male-only priesthood is more than just recognizing the authority of the Roman Pontiff (although that certainly is part of the picture), but is doctrinally binding.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I had no idea what they were doing was wrong, not real, and now they are considered separated from God. So why are these women and everyone involved doing/saying/acting this all if it is not allowed? Why not shut down their church and make the go open one that is not practicing Catholic? Everyone at that webpage of women is considered not a Catholic and also not accepted by God any longer?

Their ACTIONS have separated them from God but they may repent and be reunited to Him at any time.

Plenty of things are not allowed but done anyway. We aren’t supposed to commit mortal sins but we do, don’t we?

It is often the case that when we want to destroy something, we try to find somebody ‘on the inside’ to help us. (Think Trojan horse, Quislings, etc.)

Once Catholic, always Catholic, but a Catholic in objective mortal sin has separated himself (or herself) from God until or unless he or she repents and is reconciled to God. It is the PERSON who is responsible for separating from God.

Can it really never be changed? What if Jesus himself appeared before the gathered bishops and said, “Now is the time?” Do we give God the option of changing the course of things, or are we certain He would never do this?

We are certain He would not do this.

God does not contradict Himself.

If one studies Christianity one sees that God’s teachings are never changed so that what is truth becomes, at a subsequent time, ‘untrue’ in regard to faith and morals.

It’s like, “Can God make a rock too heavy for Him to lift”? NO, but that doesn’t mean God is not ‘all powerful’. He IS all powerful–He is so powerful that He does not do ‘crazy’. The definition of power is not ‘the ability to do two mutually impossible things’ but rather the ability to do all the possible things. Now, some things which are impossible for us are possible for God --HE for example can save us from sin, WE can’t save ourselves. . but there is a difference between something impossible like a miracle of raising a dead person (because God has power over death) and which presupposes that God CANNOT do it (the idea was to make a rock too heavy for him. But nothing could BE too heavy for Him, therefore logically He couldn’t possibly make something too heavy because Nothing is too heavy for him. . .see what I mean?).

So if God has revealed a truth to us, a dogmatic/ doctrinal truth, He won’t ‘change it’. God is a Trinity, He won’t come down and say, "Hey guys, now it’s time to make me a quartet’. It won’t be done. It can’t be done.

Correct, the truth cannot change. If it could, it would not be the truth. Attempting to say that God “could” change the truth is along the lines of trying to assert God can make a 4 sided triangle-- in other words, nonsensical.

Thank you for the ‘easy to understand’ explanation.
