Is courting overall better than dating? I went out with a woman one time and had no intentions of doing it again. And told her so. She must’ve missed that part.

Well I’m 46 and interested in women from their twenties to my age. Depending on their maturity. Of course there’s really no where to meet them. Not even in my parish. Well I do not try to hard. Anyway. But…courting is better than dating isn’t it? Opinions? Does the church have a preference?

Can you define your perception of the different between “courting” and “dating”? I’m not sure what you mean. Is “courting” merely “dating” with the expressed primary purpose of discerning marriage? Or does it involve singing and wearing cowboy hats and prairie gowns?

Yes, I was going to ask how the OP defined each.

If it involves a square dance, I would say, hands down, it’s definitely better. My husband and I were in a square dancing club together and it totally led to romance!

The difference between “dating” and “courting” is that in “courting” the g is silent.

😃 Well. Dating can be done for many different reasons. Courting is usually with marriage in mind. Of course it doesn’t have too. It’s done mostly in public places. No hanging around alone. Certainly not at first. You go to the person’s parents and ask permission (if needed). That’s kind of going over the edge. For example, I don’t leave bars with girls. I agree to meet someone in a public place and do that for a while. The thing in your last sentence I guess may be optional. 😉

You tell me the difference in pursuing the girl and stalking. The mood of the girl on that day?

A silent g, but with a prefix of a-

Sorry. I don’t mean to poke fun at OP. I don’t know what the difference is between dating and a-courtin’.

To me, courting implies a formal plan for dating.

True, it would be a bit odd for a 46 year old man to ask a young woman’s parents for permission.

When you say you don’t leave bars with girls, does that mean you’ll hang around the bar as long as there are girls there? 😉

And looking at history. Dating can be traced back to the advent of cars. Dating has something to do with driving around aimlessly and using gas IMO. Courting was maybe once a week the man would “call on” the girl and after church spend the day with her. And all was done in public.

With stalking, the girl’s already said, “no thankyou”.

I only go to bars for conversation. Not drunkenness and picking up someone I don’t know nor does anyone I know.

O.k., but cars were invented over 100 years ago. If you’re looking back toward reviving a culture that doesn’t exist anymore, you’ll find frustration more likely than happiness.

For me, dating involved driving in a car until we got to the mall. The wandering around aimlessly occurred while she shopped.

Oh well I think I missed that part then once. The girl I simply talked too and she was very nice and seemed to enjoy conversation. Behind my back she must’ve been telling others something else. Actually no romance had even came up. But it’s the one that has all the witnesses that wins. 'Course I didn’t know who they were and never seen them.

Well I think this lunatic was wanting me to go around while she went “drug shopping” Seems like sometimes women hear what they want too. No offense to any ladies.

Maybe you should look for ladyfriends at places other than bars?
