To be fair this was co-written by Terry Hall, but this is so much better than Bananarama’s version.

Well the point of this thread is songs… you like better than the originals.
Okay, anything Aretha Franklin covers is better than the original. Of course Aretha makes anything she sings, ABSOLUTELY her own.

And I definitely have to agree that George Michael’s cover of Elton John’s “Don’t let the Sun Go Down on Me” is superior.

Oh, no one can do a decent cover of anything Van Morrison has done. Van stands alone. Just imagine someone trying to cover “Into the Mystic” It wouldn’t be a cover, it would be a “rip off”

Thanks for these. I especially look forward to listening to the Joe Jackson and Brian Setzer ones.

And it jogged a memory from way back. there was a cover of “dirty work” made…by…wait for it…Anne Murray!

maybe Eva Cassidy’s fields of gold but I do like stings original too

frank Marino is very much in the style of Jimi Hendrix. He’s not a copycat it was the style that came naturally.

I have a friend who knows him personally and he will spend hours with you talking about Jesus and Christianity

Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog’ was one of those covers that so eclipsed the original that most people don’t even realise it WAS a cover.

To a lesser extent, Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’ is also.

And I still get all goosebumpy from Jeff Buckley’s (RIP) cover of Leonard Cohen’s (RIP) ‘Hallelujah’. Jeff is the reason so many others, including KD Lang, have done it too but I still like Jeff’s rendition best of all.

Mick Fleetwood thought Eva Cassidy captured Songbird.
Here’s her interpretation:

Depending on my mood, I’ll prefer Sabaton’s version of Twilight of the Thunder God over the original. At the very least, the song is one of the best Amon Amarth has ever written, so it’s at least impressive that Sabaton can match it.

Sabaton also made the music for Out of Control much better than the original. That said, I think Battle Beast’s vocalist did a better job on the delivery of the lyrics, which were clearly written for her style of vocals, which are much different than Sabaton’s.

I do prefer Avantasia’s cover of Dancing with Tears in my Eyes to Ultravox’s. To me, the atmosphere of the Ultravox original just seemed off. Avantasia remedied that.

Eva interprets several songs really really REALLY well. It’s such a shame her life was cut so short.

Songbird, Fields of Gold, What a Wonderful World, Know You by Heart, Over the Rainbow …

Now I need to go find her version of Wonderful World-I’ve never heard it.
She had an amazing gift and it’s a blessing to enjoy it with others.
