That’s OK, but I think my family’s cover is better (we’ve come up with our own lyrics).
Ok, can we hear it.?

Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog’ was one of those covers that so eclipsed the original that most people don’t even realise it WAS a cover.

To a lesser extent, Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’ is also.

And I still get all goosebumpy from Jeff Buckley’s (RIP) cover of Leonard Cohen’s (RIP) ‘Hallelujah’. Jeff is the reason so many others, including KD Lang, have done it too but I still like Jeff’s rendition best of all.
Yeah… kind like "Blinded by the light"by Manfred Mann.

It’s a bit crude. We came up with, “Crimson and Clover, big fat daddy rolled over”. That’s the only part we’ve done.

Some backstory: we have a forty-pound cat. He “flops” onto his side whenever he’s tired and rests for a bit before finishing his walk. We got a kitten awhile ago, and we joke that he’s her dad. She’s a mean kitten, so we also joke that she makes fun of his weight (it’s bad, but it’s funny). The point of the song, then, is that she’s making fun of him whenever he “flops”.

Yes, we’ve anthropomorphized our cats. 😆

I tend to agree that Aretha is amazing, and her version of “Respect” is an all time classic, but Otis Redding’s original version of “Respect” definitely deserves high marks.

No way. Big Mama Thorton’s original “Hound Dog” is where it is at.

Original by Neil Diamond. This 1969 Jamaican cover is the original reggae version, which was also the style UB40 played it in.

Oh, I didn’t mean Elvis’ version “eclipsed” because it was better (that really is a matter of individual taste in that case), but it is so popular that the majority of folks are unaware that Elvis was covering someone else.

REM’s cover of Superman is better than the original too, I think.

Almost anyone who covers Bob Dylan makes me better appreciate his skill as a song writer. Oftentimes, I can’t get past his voice and simple arrangements.

I’m thinking of Peter Paul and Mary with Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright, for instance

Can’t believe I almost forgot this one:

The song was written by David Bowie, and it was originally recorded by him for the Ziggy Stardust album. Bowie offered Mott the Hoople a choice between “All the Young Dudes” and “Suffragette City” and they picked “Dudes”. “City” then wound up on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust.

Any remake of a Joni Mitchell song is guaranteed to be better than the original…

Yes, that’s exactly what a cover is: A remake by a different artist.

Walk off the Earth’s covers are always better than the originals…regardless of song or artist.
